Not sure why you're confused, MyHeritage and Newspapers are private companies who have to pay their employees. For free websites, consider FamilySearch and Chronicling America. Look for free weekends or request a subscription as a birthday or holiday present. That's how I make my genealogy budget dollars stretch.
