@mcmtv2 - Re the new Porsche 6 Stroke Engine - The 4th stoke actually brings in additional fuel and air which is added through the skirt ports of the cylinder 👍 The crank allows the piston to go lower in the cylinder to expose the ports Fank of the week vote: “SIZE WHEN FULLY EXTENDED.”
You guys nailed it. Many people buy and drive cars for the attention they give you. Then when that new (insert car name here) is 6-9 months old, and the newest hotness hit the dealer floors,.... No one pays them attention, and they move to the next car. The trick is to drive a classic car, that is rare or unique, that will always give you attention.
My experience, at least here in America, the hate towards rooftop tents comes from "fake overlanders." There's almost no real over landing here in America like there is in other parts of the world. So most "overlanders" here set up their vehicles with tents, full kitchen and storage systems, all kinds of tools and equipment and fuel and water cans attached on racks on the outside, multiple navigation and com systems, etc. And then daily drive it to their office job in the city and take it to a campground once a year 🤣 so there's a stigma behind the tents because typically they're a "poser" accessory That being said, I love rooftop tents. They're super convenient when you actually use them often
Over 20 years ago, a coworker of mine made a wrong turn and ended up in the intake for the Woodward Dream Cruise (huge car event / parade in Michigan). Once they got started, there was no way to get out, as the side roads are all closed. So these two middle-aged ladies rolled their windows down, waved the crowds, and cruised along... in a 2 year old, beige, Buick Century!
RTT - Lots of people who go 'overland' love them - but if you are doing the 'hard stuff' - it really raises your center of gravity and can really impact your stability off-road. The increased height also causes issues with clearance when you are off-road and off-camber in the trees. These are the big reasons I choose to sleep in a tent when go off-road!
Somebody much smarter than me once described going into debt as "spending money you don't have to buy stuff you don't need to impress people you don't know". makes you think about it.
One big argument I've heard against rooftop tents is that if you've spent the evening drinking and you go try and climb up to sleep, you might be too drunk to make it up the ladder. And even if you do make it up the ladder in a few hours, you're going to need to come down the ladder again to take care of business. If you're not steady on your feet, those ladders are going to be dangerous. They also look dumb.
@SwapBlogRU I wasn't hating on rooftop tents, I've camped in 2 different ones, on about 6 occasions. They're weren't awful, a solid C+ as a tent, a C- for actual sleeping in, C- for ease of set-up, and A+ for looking dumb. MCM is the perfect place for calling out expensive(loud goat bleat here) eqpt. Cheers! Stop our campfire for a burger and a drink anytime Brother
I watched D4A's excellent explanation of the Porsche 6 stroke, and that makes sense - but I reckon Marty's is pretty accurate too and it works for older models.

BMW's naming was good and straightforward 316i, for instance. You knew what it was. 3 series 1.6 litres petrol injection. 318i, same but 1.8 litres and so on with a d as opposed to i for diesel. Now, it will be a 2.0 litres engine, but with different levels of tune and so on.

It's all about costs as we were all casual employed and sent home early each day once Holden met their daily build quota
Maaaan, the cost to effort discussion hit home...I'm a mechanical engineer working in the automotive industry and i keep looking at all the new cars (that the products i designed go into) and can't figure out how it would be worth buying a new car. 1st, it seems like they are all (almost) soulless and there's nothing standing out that excites me...Looking at it now, i believe Rivian (although it's electric) builds some really interesting cars/suvs/pick-ups, but there's no way i would pay close to or even over USD100k... Being passionate about Subarus, this thinking made me restore my 2004 Forester XT, i looked at the money and it seemed that it makes more sense to restore my current car instead of getting another, newer one. Of course, the sentimental side of things also played a big role. Nice talk, love seeing you talk whatever, would love to meet you and just chat sometime :)

The guy who had sent you the fank should become "fan of the week". Digital enough to be able to watch your show, but still kept his life as analog as possible. Much appreciations
Rooftop tents seems like such a weird idea to me. I've done a lot of camping in my life, specifically car camping, and we've always done a tent. It seems like a great idea to get the tent off the ground, because the ground is cold & hard. So you'd think a rooftop tent would be a great idea... but then I just look at the cost of it, and the space it takes up... Like... for us, we'd have to leave it on our car 24/7, because there's just not enough space in the garage for it. And the cost. I think the last time I looked, they were a few grand? For the money, it seems like you could get a small popup trailer tent or ultra-light towable, and for the most part be good? Unless you need to tow more than one thing? And there in lies the problem. It's too expensive for what it is, both in storage space, and in physical monetary cost for most people... which means it's bougie garbage, for bougie people to feel like tough outdoorsmen, when they should have just rented a camper.
I have a ladder on frame, part time 4x4. I also have a VW with the same 4Motion all wheel drive system. My VW can get across drainage ditches on a 45 degree angle. My 4x4, in low range, gets crossed up and has to be winched across or reversed out. Don't underestimate that AWD system. Just keep the wheels spinning until something finds some grip, it'll keep going until it bottoms out.
The new Porsche 6 stroke has a new crank design that has gears in it, these causes an increased stroke length, this allows the new intake valves at the bottom end of cylinder to open and allow more fuel/air in, there is still burnt gases in there (Moog's correct) these will still ignite and the 2nd ignition will burn the unused fuel and new fuel/air and have a "cleaner" exhaust gas output in the exhaust stoke.
I prefer having a vehicle with a cabin like a pathfinder by Nissan or a Wagovan by Honda which I used for Car Camping all the time up on lakes north of Toronto. Just put the back seats down and blow up an air mattress.. you can avoid being wet, you can leave radio on low without killing battery.. etc.. I wouldn't have as much as others if I were to go car camping again... Those fridges are a game changer... An old Toyota 4x4 van could have a fridge installed from factory.
My mom owns and adores her brighty sparkly blue 2007 Audi RS4 Cabriolet that I definitely didn't sneak out the driveway with some mates to find out if it could do donuts. She has the Quattro rally heritage deep in it's core that shines on gravel roads! I know Audi has boring names but I say give them a chance and try a cheap convertible challenge? I love you guys and I'm proud to be one of the 38 subscribers! 4:57
37:44 i think to add on to this about the after market industry being killed off. I think a big issue with it will be the scarcity of cars to modify. Who is going to restore a byd seal in 20 years? As time goes on cars get crashed or taken off the road for other reasons. In 20 years there might not be any good iconic cars anymore. And i think that is why we see so many things like the hellcat coming out. They will be the last of the performance car icons. Fossil fuels last hoorah.
I would like to vote for the "custard filled balls" as a late entry for fank of the week but if that is not allowed then it has to be "size when fully extended"
I’m always shocked to see people who are financing $80,000 cars when they make less than $100,000 a year. I consider $40,000 for a used car a ton to spend for someone making $160,000, and these people are spending sometimes more than their annual wage on a car. Just absurd.

There are so many archaic laws that never get followed, but I can say with certainty that I set hundreds of mouse traps in CA and never felt like I was at risk of being fined lol
Rooftop tent ……. Problem is getting out for a number 1 in the middle of the night after a belly full of beer. A “P” bottle no good as when it’s cold missing is an issue !
I saw a good video explanation of the Porche 6 stroke somewhere, but now I forgot where. I think the idea was that it was halfway between a 4 stroke and a 2 stroke or something? Where your exhaust is down around the piston skirt? The idea was you get more power over the entire cycle, even though two of the strokes would clearly have less power because the air-fuel has partially combusted hydrocarbons...
17:51 They explained that one of the 2 "decrompressions" (not sure if it was the first or the second) sends the piston further where there are vents to let I guess some of the air or exhaust out so it can combust again... or something like that. There is a recent video on the Carwow channel that went into it.
I don’t know where you get the idea of people hateing on roof top tents. Many would say it’s the ultimate in camping. I’d get one, but my small dogs would not able to get in and out easily. Maybe I’m wrong, I guess I’ll read other comments to see. As always, love your channels. I’ve finally found the best 4wd show in the world, combined with conspiracy theories 😆😂

hard top roof top tents are the pinnacle of camping for people who don't want to tow. Means you can still camp in comfort in places camper trailers and caravans can't get. And so quick to put up. And you can fit solar on top. win win win win win
Rooftop tents seem cool but they are very expensive and have to live on your vehicle if you dont have space to store it. I think they are for a lifestyle camper and not a hobbyist. That being said, there's an absolute legend out there somewhere with one on an NSX

needs to be taught in school. 25 mins in. spot on.
hard top roof top tents are the pinnacle of camping for people who don't want to tow. Means you can still camp in comfort in places camper trailers and caravans can't get. And so quick to put up. And you can fit solar on top. win win win win win
I think roof tents look cool. I've seen people track side camp in them. I've wanted one but its little hard to get dog up and down a ladder.
one of the 38 here. Fank of the week is size when fully extended
Tinfoil: I thought similar, of suzuki's 7 year warranty, a few years back. Cheap little cars + 7 year warranty makes them accessible to most customers
Getting philosophical about roof top tents
The strokes are different lengths and the longer ones uncover ports in the cylinder wall, so it's more like a 4+2 stroke engine than a 6 stroke.
Size when fully extended. Dude looked proud, and he should be
“SIZE WHEN FULLY EXTENDED.” Sure winner 🤩
Rooftop tents seem cool but they are very expensive and have to live on your vehicle if you dont have space to store it. I think they are for a lifestyle camper and not a hobbyist. That being said, there's an absolute legend out there somewhere with one on an NSX

Trim levels were a bit naff, Inscription, Momentum etc.

23:20 My Father had a Datsun 240Z. I did not know they were faster than a Porsche 911.
I don't think he knew either.
"Size when fully extended" has my vote, so original and epic xD

Amusingly...being a car since I could drive, I've developed into...a car guy who doesn't want to spend money on cars. I love cars, I don't buy into the "waste my entire life savings on stuff" approach to them though. My buddies who aren't car guys have owned 3-4x as many vehicle as I have.
i needed this episode.
