My friend's uncle was the lead programmer for Iguanasoft. Remember getting to playtest this one, and South Park, and we got to play the PS2 before it was officially released to America. I miss those days.
Yes, explosive shells with the Shredder bounced around and had splash damaged with every bounce in the original N64 version as well. Easily the most overpowered weapon in the game especially considering how much Turok 2 level design relied on corridors and enclosed spaces.
I finished the game on pc last week in 12,5 hours with all primagene keys and talismans. You should give it a try it is funny to see a old game in a new game engine.
I had a strategy guide and could only get through level 1. I was excited to get to the zombies in level 2 but never did because there’s a LOT to get through before reaching them
I remember struggling on the lair of the blind ones. I managed to fly through the first three levels without a problem and nearly gave up on that part. I did manage to beat the game and do 100%, but it took me better part of two years.
Hearing Adon’s voice again is so refreshing. I really enjoyed the aesthetic of the game and direction they took to not just be a dinosaur killing game, but becoming a post apoctalypse - a cliche for the genre but a nice fit with Turok’s twist.
The plot's actually _really_ unique, just not developed on enough. Tal'Set (the Turok) is a Navajo warrior whose job is to _prevent the collapse of the multiverse_ , in a land that's essentially an ongoing time crash caused by the Primagen going back in time to see the beginning of the universe (and time travel causing major problems, leaving him stuck and his ship essentially becoming the cornerstone of the Lost Lands).
I'm doing a no damage received playthrough and 27:53 proved essential (going up the ladders spawns a hit-scanner)! Once again consulting speed runner videos saved by butt. Well done dude.
The Shredder is just as broken in the original game. As a kid, that weapon alone practically carried me through the entire game. The only difference is that it doesn't bounce if you strike an enemy unlike here where it appears to bounce regardless of target.
gozinta82 Yeah, I get that. I meant from the perspective of being the 'creator' of the product. Like, is his pride grazed, does he not care, does he think 'right, I might patch that'? Kind of interesting to think of it from that framework.
A similar thing happened when, at a previous GDQ, the developer of Spelunky was on Skype while the game was being run. The dev at that time thought it was awesome that people were still playing his game and finding new things in it (he wasn't aware of some of the glitches that were showcased).
every creative knows they don't have enough time to ever truly finish anything, it's better to laugh at the misses than get sad about it. cause perfection is pretty impossible.
A re-creation isn't a mod, it's more like the videogame equivalent of a cover song. They wrote new code with the aim of producing an improved version of the original result, but it was still new code.
They literally tell you in this very video that you're wrong, why don't you just try listening to the people that actually did the thing you think you're an authority on?
I read somewhere that Turok 2 got praised for a couple of it's weapons of 'best video game weapons of all time'.. I THINK the shredder was one, but definitely the Cerebal Bore was another.
I really hope they remake Evolution. I know 3 is next if they go in order but Evolution is nostalgic as hell for me. Plus it had weapons that easily rival the cerebral bore.
Well as much as I love Evolution and do want a remaster as well it really didn't feel like a Turok game in it's roots, regardless would adore a remaster along with 3 and Rage Wars
If they remake _Evolution_ , I'd hope they do the GC version, not the PS2 mess they had a few scrubs put together at almost literally the last second to appease Sony's pissy threats.
Turok 2 is a fantastic game outside of the fact it requires the worst 1st person platforming, and is quite disorienting. The guns and gore are some of the best in any game to date but there is not enough enemies. I love and hate it at the same time.
Second worst, I think the first game just barely edges it out in that department. Both of them could definitely benefit from that new ledge grab ability.
Shame it's run on easy, great speed run though. Massive trip down nostalgia lane! I struggled through the levels and don't think I ever 100% any of them.
Tbh I don’t think I ever made it pass the first level or even the 2nd when I was a kid. Playing this game was a bloody maze only remember having amazing 4player seshes playing kill the monkey 😂
I can say this much Turok has the most innovative weaponary in the franchise compared to the Doom franshise, Doom just recycle the same old weapons every game with like literally no new type of weapon. The only thing that Doom has going for it is the Super Shotgun, The bfg and the Chainsaw the rest are just the same. And looking at Turok sure theres a little bit of the same weapons like the Pistol, Bow, and Shotgun but they've been more creative about it and changing it up a bit. Doom is memorable for the bfg and Super Shotgun but Turok has some the memorable weapons too like Cerebral Bore, Shredder and personal favorite the Razor Wind.
I still liked the first game better (athomsphere wise) tho with expansion pack this looked nice and cerebral bore was best weapon ever ;D Nice run n stuff tho!
Dev was pretty hard to understand 80% of the time because he kept repeating words/phrases, stuttering, saying "like" and "uhh" FAR too often, and "you know" and pausing mid-sentence in very sporadic ways.
Возможно я в поиске забрёл на вражескую территорию. Но это не важно. Может кто подскажет, почему эта игра не идёт на 7-ой винде. Скачал новую версию, установил и ошибка выскакивает Error-??? People keep saying Turok 2 is under a completely different engine but I dont see that, it looks exactly the same but with new features. That's like saying CoD WW2s engine is completely different from CoD4s. They been using the exact same engine that games started using at the very end of the 90s, but heavily modified. That's what it looks like with Turok 2, it looks heavily modified.
a lot of the features in engines you have to rebuild from the ground up and are not exactly visible to an untrained eye. for example if you want to make a longer view distance the old engine may not be able to draw geometry past a certain point and to change that you would have to reprogram it to much to really call it the same thing. Then when you reprogram it the original stuff will probably not be compatible so you have to remake that. It all adds up to a lot of work just for prettier mountains really. For example cod4 engine wouldn't be able to handle the graphics in cod ww2 just on the level of the poly count, particle effects, physics ect. At least not in a way that is effective enough to play on a house computer. Even things like you want to add explosives leaving a hole in the ground you have top redo the whole engine to make that look good. Another example is water in Duke Nukem 3d works on a weird teleportation trick but in Quake its actually water. Functionally they are the same thing but the Duke 3d "water" has more limitations such as you cant look out of it. It was minor to the average person but amazing to a programmer. than you can say the old engine was based on a past game but its in no means the same thing.
slighted suture When people talk about a games engine, they mean the whole game. dagonofthedepths clarify what an "actual engine" is, meaning that the CoD and BattleField Fanboys have no idea what they're talking about when they argue about their games engine and graphics. When a dev talks about rebuilding their game from the ground up with a new engine, I expect something like Fallout: New Vegas to Fallout 4 because the logic I was taught. When a dev mentions that their game is under a completely different engine but it looks exactly the same, I automatically assume that they're lying. Again BattleField fanboys shitting on CoD every chance they get meanwhile making themselves sound dumb on at the process.
Yeah when a dev says it they tend to be telling the true but most people don't get all the layers to a game (not blaming them just how it is). A lot of people confuse graphics with aesthetics and nobody seems to care about the cool things the game engine does besides make the thing look pretty. When I got Battlefield Bad Company I was amazed the Frostbite engine just let you blow holes in walls but I never played CoD or another Battlefield so I can't judge beyond that and blowing holes in walls is neither aesthetics or graphics.
dagonofthedepths Yeah BF had its first overhaul with Bad Company from what I seen years ago. That's when the whole graphics mean "destructible environments" and engine means "overhauling or changing the whole game but not completely" came into play for me because of those two communities. Like BF Fanboys will say that BF Graphics is way better than CoDs, but their definition of Graphics is destructible environments. That's what threw me off because I thought that was classified as an engine or something else that I don't know, but rolled with it because the BF Community is filled with *"adults"* and assumed they knew what they're talking about. I guess they don't if the same people are saying that CoDs been using the same exact engine since CoD3 and nothing changed. Which I knew was untrue because from what I'm understanding from you now, a games engine does not mean the whole game. It means either the sound, visuals, gameplay, etc. That I've been knowing because I've been saying that JB CoD (James Bond Call of Duty) sound engine is better than CoDs sound engine. Like you're able to hear yourself and other people drop their magazines when they are reloading and it has better Echo effects. Which CoDs Echo effects probably didn't come into play until Ghost or Advanced Warfare. Sledgehammer mentioned about them overhauling their sound engine in Advanced Warfare but I never noticed it, but I never did play current gen Advanced Warfare, it was probably never added into last gen. I just remember in Black Ops III shooting a gun inside a house, in a building, then outside and realizing it sounded completely different. Sledgehammer with Advanced Warfare also mentioned that they can't remove quickscoping from the game without changing up it's engine completely. that I assumed they were talking about either completely changing up its movement, UI, or just overhauling the game's engine. After that, people started talking about how "changing and building a whole new engine is too expensive and you are better off using the exact same engine but slowly modifying it over the years. Its way cheaper and less time-consuming that way" Thanks again for explaining game engines to me. So I've been using some of them correctly but never had a good understanding of it, and changed the actual meaning to what other people say, which is the false meaning. I still don't fully understand it but I'm better off knowing that my knowledge of game engines it's not the correct knowledge that actual devs use. It's just Gamer's that never made a game, pretending to know what they're talking about when it comes to game development, and teaching me the wrong information.
To describe a game engine in its simplest terms, think of it as an Operating System (OS). Say you shoot something in Call of Duty. The CoD engine uses its own algorithms and techniques to calculate the trajectory of the bullet, show the results through graphics (blood splatter, gun recoil, etc.) Effect physics (maybe give push-back to the player model, or move physical objects) and load relevant sound effects. Battlefield's engine may handle each ONE of these a different way. Perhaps the trajectory calculation is different. Maybe the bloodsplatter texture is loaded, stored, and called differently. These things are the engines. It's why you can't just turn, say, Mario 64 into Crash Bandicoot with some pallete swaps and level packs. The entire game runs differently in both cases as a direct result of the frameworks that were used to build them.
My friend's uncle was the lead programmer for Iguanasoft. Remember getting to playtest this one, and South Park, and we got to play the PS2 before it was officially released to America. I miss those days.
That must have been incredible dude!
Yes, explosive shells with the Shredder bounced around and had splash damaged with every bounce in the original N64 version as well. Easily the most overpowered weapon in the game especially considering how much Turok 2 level design relied on corridors and enclosed spaces.
I've never even finished a single level in Turok 2 in all my years and this guy runs it in under 2 hours.
What about it's upgraded version in 'Evolution', the Swarm Bore?
I finished the game on pc last week in 12,5 hours with all primagene keys and talismans. You should give it a try it is funny to see a old game in a new game engine.
Lol right? My brother and i could never get passed the first level. We were so confused.
I had a strategy guide and could only get through level 1. I was excited to get to the zombies in level 2 but never did because there’s a LOT to get through before reaching them
HOW DID I MISS THIS I CHECK EVERY YEAR FOR THIS GAME
I remember struggling on the lair of the blind ones. I managed to fly through the first three levels without a problem and nearly gave up on that part. I did manage to beat the game and do 100%, but it took me better part of two years.
This game such such a step up from the first game, but Turok 1 was pretty good too. Great franchise and great speedrun
Hearing Adon’s voice again is so refreshing. I really enjoyed the aesthetic of the game and direction they took to not just be a dinosaur killing game, but becoming a post apoctalypse - a cliche for the genre but a nice fit with Turok’s twist.

@@MrOmegatronic Yea I never really understood it when I was younger but that made it engaging; it was very deep and memorable.
I'm doing a no damage received playthrough and 27:53 proved essential (going up the ladders spawns a hit-scanner)! Once again consulting speed runner videos saved by butt. Well done dude.

Thank you!!

It's crazy what speedrunners find out.. they're practically games testers
Such a good run. Sucks the audience was pretty much non existent, but still a very good run!
The Shredder is just as broken in the original game. As a kid, that weapon alone practically carried me through the entire game. The only difference is that it doesn't bounce if you strike an enemy unlike here where it appears to bounce regardless of target.
This is a classic run imo.
53:33 somebody farted on that couch 😂
One of the best remasters!
"remaster"
He's actually right with "remasters" since he's referring to it as plural. Saying "One of the best remaster" isn't right nor does it sound right.
Alleraz I was referring to it being called a remaster, but appears to have the same polygon count as the N64 version.
nUt EnUf PoLgOnS DURRR
Usually you see some graphical improvements in remasters.
Beware oblivion is at hand
Wonder what the dev was thinking when he continually talked about how broken the game was
gozinta82 Yeah, I get that. I meant from the perspective of being the 'creator' of the product. Like, is his pride grazed, does he not care, does he think 'right, I might patch that'? Kind of interesting to think of it from that framework.

That Jurassic Park reference was just too much lol
General Kenobi!
I hope they do a Turok 3 remaster. That one was my favorite of the series.
I love plasma rifles in any game...i dunno why they're just awesome!
You are really a quick Player!
The fact to have a dev up on DS was an amazing detail.
Loved this game
When I first was introduced to Turok my friends warmly granted me with All Weapons code. 😃 Acclaim and Iguana were really thinking back then!
RBNSMTH if i remember correctly (RobinSmith)
Beware, Oblivion is at hand.
Bismuth never forget your Minecraft run :) greetings
I have played thousand fps, but there´s no shotgun as Turok 2 shotgun. Badass
I read somewhere that Turok 2 got praised for a couple of it's weapons of 'best video game weapons of all time'.. I THINK the shredder was one, but definitely the Cerebal Bore was another.
Its up there with Doom's SSG.
1000 Frames Per Second?!
wow
How did anyone ever work out where to go ! all the corridors look the same !
Yeah, for casuals like me that only played the game a couple of times, I got lost haha
Keeping the map open at all times helps there. xD
The guy on the right was sleeping for a good bit of the run. It was adorable!
At 55:33 the guy in the middle farted and you can tell cause the two guys beside him are looking at him with disgust 😂😂
I really hope they remake Evolution. I know 3 is next if they go in order but Evolution is nostalgic as hell for me. Plus it had weapons that easily rival the cerebral bore.
That and i think it needs more cutscenes.

Évolution suckse
Now remaster it for RTX? :D
Turok rage wars remastered

Was anyone else reminded of Adon's voice by Zelda in Breath of the Wild?
Did they remaster the first one? If so how do i get it? Steam?
search turok on steam
Mische2k that might work
store.steampowered.com/bundle/3736/Turok_Bundle/
Not branded as remastered but they are, NightDive studios did the work on both.
znxster thanka dad
Shame it's run on easy, great speed run though. Massive trip down nostalgia lane! I struggled through the levels and don't think I ever 100% any of them.
Bismuth should have run it hard
I swear this announcer sounds just like Astaroth from Catherine.
Bet the nuke gun looked even better in the remaster
Well, it doesn't reduce your FPS to 2 anymore, so that's good.
Tbh I don’t think I ever made it pass the first level or even the 2nd when I was a kid. Playing this game was a bloody maze only remember having amazing 4player seshes playing kill the monkey 😂
Raptor best character move speed so high people almost cant keep up
Viffel Godling hahaha yesss best character in the game, best cry when getting shot at too ahhahaha
1:21:56 those enemies really want you dead lol
It’s Bug Frieza
Is this game on steam?
yes

beginning to wonder how people know what the switches even open XD
Because they've played the game before?
Just 3 people there, watching the run. xD
The guy in the background: "Am I right here? No, no I do not believe": D
Rage Wars > Turok 2
Turok sure seems to love children...
I still liked the first game better (athomsphere wise) tho with expansion pack this looked nice and cerebral bore was best weapon ever ;D
Nice run n stuff tho!
Anyone still play online
