      TH-camWatcher24/7 the watch does not suck, their brainless fans that stand in front of the store for 3 days are the ones that suck.
      [there is nothing wrong with being an apple fan, but if you camp in front of their store for days or go into debt for the latest device then you are giving humanity a bad name]

      In case you're still wondering, the classic Pebble is still a decent buy and can be had for ULTRA cheap (Looking at $30 for a decent one) but do be aware, there's an issue that will eventually effect ALL classic Pebbles where the screen stops working over time. Sadly, this screen problem also affects the classic Pebble Steel.
      If it's in the budget and you only want one, I would definitely suggest shooting a bit higher and getting yourself a Pebble Time. The Pebble Time doesn't have the screen tearing issue the original Pebble has, and gets you a color screen. I got my Time for $60, and ordered a $25 Bepple edge guard for it.

    I honestly do not understand this habit of smartwatches: the battery is just too short-lived and they do nothing that your smartphone already do - on a larger screen. Is just sparing a couple of seconds to get the phone out worth having the wrist encumbered by a device worth some hundreds of dollars?

    • @IbervilleMusic
      @IbervilleMusic 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lord Ultor Yes it is. It's great when I'm carrying groceries, sitting in a movie theatre with my phone on silent, at the airport with my phone in my sling bag, just out on a walk holding my girlfriend's hand. at home when my phone is on my night table and I'm on the computer. You can gauge if the notification is worth picking your phone up or not, act on them if they need simple answers, etc. Oh.. and it's a watch, like it tells you the time. Battery life is a non issue, I just plug mine at the same time I plug my smart phone : just before going to bed.

    • @DanielRichards644
      @DanielRichards644 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Evens Lamarre And this ladies and gentlemen is why we have a serious obesity issue, people are even to lazy to pick up there freaking phones if they don't have to.

      @brickman409 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lord Ultor
      I can't really say much about the Pebble, but I do have a moto 360 and I think it is pretty nice to be able to just look at your wrist to see a text message and say "Ok Google" to reply. Using voice commands to get directions while driving is very handy too. I guess you just have to use one for a while to see the usefulness of it. It's not something that is necessary, but it is very handy, convenient, and just makes life a bit easier. The Moto 360 just came down in price to $150, I'd consider that to be very reasonable. Also, I don't think battery life is a big issue as long as you remember to charge it every night.

    • @bluurayr
      @bluurayr 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Lord Ultor You could argue that remote controls for the TV are also useless because you could change the channel from the buttons on the TV (exaggerated example but you get the picture of what I want to say). There are many situations in which a smartwatch has its purpose. You could be in another room when it rings, doing the dishes for example, you look at the watch and see it's maybe some telemarketer who was calling you for the 5th time this day and know you don't have to rush to your phone. I know it's just a trivial example, but things like this add up and there are many more situations that are not so insignificant, at least to some people.
      There are people who don't have a need for a smartwatch or even a normal watch (I hardly see watches anymore), but to some it has. And if you like how it looks and do wear a watch for the most time anyway, why not have some extra functionality?

    • @IbervilleMusic
      @IbervilleMusic 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      DanielRichards644 yeah, I can jog a half marathon in 1:40mins. Do you know how I know I can do that? because of my watch tracking my distance, time, heart rate and calories burned. I'm quite the opposite of fat and lazy and my watch kinda helps reminding me to go for that daily run with a gentle tap on the wrist.

    A Pebble employee said the Time does have viewing angle issues, due to the panel to plastic gap you mentioned, but the Time Steel panel is bonded directly against the glass, and is far better. As long as I have even a small amount of light somewhere in the room, I can see my screen just fine at a little over 45 degrees off center in any direction. May not sound like much, stated that way, but it means I can look at it without any effort or thought as to the angle I'm holding it.
    By small amount of light, the 46 inch screen across the room from my couch that I'm typing this on is the brightest thing in the room, the rest is soft indirect lighting, for reference.

    Still love my original Pebble for a list of reasons. The main reason is kinda silly though. That is the side mounted magnetic charge port. So quick to juice up for a few minutes on a quick car ride on a quick errand. 5-10 mins is good for another day or two on a Pebble. I never have to take my watch off. For anything.

    I am still rocking my Pebble Time Steel. It is durable, gives long battery life (I last charged mine 6 days ago, despite being years old), easy to use, I can quickly use it even with gloves on (thank you physical buttons instead of touch screen!), and uses standard watch bands.
    Here it is 7 years later, and no one else is able to fully replace it. Hell, most current gen watches only have 24-48 hour battery life when new.

    I actually love my apple watch. It's a pretty watch, a good fitness tracker, the haptic feedback is the best in the market for notifications, it truly feels like somebody's gently tapping your wrist, Screen turns on swiftly every time I flick my wrist to look at it. Force touch is unique and new so even if the implementation isn't everywhere for now, Devs will use it more and more, Battery is never an issue as I plug it in every nigh with 50-60% remaining depending. I once went on two days without problems. pretty impressed for a first gen product still running the first version of the OS.

    The angle issue will be resolved with the Pebble Time Steel. Hopefully you ordered a steel too and will review that once it comes out in a month or 2.

    Just a quick note. The pebble time steel is going to have the display fused to the covering glass, so that will eliminate the issues with depth/viewing angles!

    i love my time, the first pebble had issues but was solid. im glad i upgraded. however im soon gonna upgrade to a moto watch as it works the way i need it to whereas the pebble time is not only dying after only 2 or 3 days of use as opposed to its usual 7-8 i was getting, it doesnt have the notification control i needed it still sends me gmail notifications after ive entered quiet time.

    You should look at the pebble time steel as it has the LCD glued to the glass so it will appear closer and maybe fix your complaint about viewing the screen.

    Got the original pebble when it first came out and when it was the only smartwatch around, and I still use it as my day-to-day watch. I'll probably get the time soon and I have always preferred pebble for my watches since the launch.

    In Pebble Time Steel the screen is actually glued to the glass. So that might actually improve the screen visibility.

    I have a Garmin vivoactive and it lasts weeks. I have no issues with it connecting to my phone (iPhone 5s). I was considering an Apple watch but couldn't support it at that price-point, just too much for what it does. Happy with my purchase for my uses.

    Maybe the Pebble Time Steel is worth a try. The screen is bonded much closer to the glass than the Pebble Time, and the more substantial weight feels excellent! Not to mention the band is one of the most comfortable I've ever worn, much better than the one that comes with the LG Watch R

    Its memory LCD, like in an old digital watch that lasted for months/years. E-paper is a marketing word meant to sound like e-ink which is an actual display technology.

    What about the Pebble Time Steel? I've heard the screen is closer to the glass which allows for less glare and a bigger battery allows for longer battery life.

    Hey Linus, I would really like some advice. I am going to be building a gaming PC around December, and I have two cpu and gpu setups I am considering.
    Either an Intel i5 6600k with an amd Radeon r9 390
    Or an Intel i5 4690k with a nvidia GeForce gtx 980
    Now going with the 980 I have to make some compromises like going without an ssd and having to go with a less efficient semi modular psu.
    In both builds I will be running a cpu liquid cooler and I will be over cocking the CPUs.
    Which build will get me better gaming performance now and in the future?
    Thanks, Nick.
    *side note* If you would like to see the full builds I can send you a link to them on pcpartspicker.
