The Falcon was my 1st ever Tamiya RC car and therefore punctuates a moment in time which I can honestly say was when I was at my most happiest ! The joy of building it with my father ... even though he did not know what he was doing. The most vivid part is what you touched on.... the cars back then had a smell about them which was completely intoxicating. I loved driving with sticks also, greasing up the window washer speed controller. Having to swap out the crystals depending who was running what. The 80's was an epic period of time for RC.... Avante... 959 .... Beatties.
Hi guys. I’ve got 12 falcons. I’ve got to order 3 new shells from Kamtec so I will order 4 and send you a brand new finished one next week. Mark from mill end race club.
@meracetrack they do a lot for the RC and race community in England and inspire people all over the world. I'm an Australian living in Malaysia, and if I didn't travel so much for work, I would love to race also, enjoy and have a great Xmas and new year.
There were two shops in the High Street. One was mainly Tamiya and the other across the road was devoted to different manufacturers. I remember going to the RIKO warehouse to look for spares when they weren't on display in the shops.
Back in the days I replaced the 3 step speed controller with a coiled unit from a Tamiya Le Mans Porsche- not quite an esc but better than the 3 steper. Also made a bodgy bec from electronic bits. Bit of silicone tubing below the shock pistons to reduce droop at the rear, and a coil or 2 cutoff the springs, helped keep the dogbones in. I also threadlocked the front end to the chassis- don't do that bit.
Ahhh..... The Falcon was the first Tamiya i bought and built myself back in 1987 after buying the first Tamiya i owned a second hand Hornet in 1986 that i sold to get the Falcon! Jesus i had to stretch my frontal lobe around the cerebral cortex to recall those memories and almost had to employ a flux capacitor to do so. Lol Thanks for the memories guys.
I am so looking forward to this project, my neighbour had a falcon growing up. Most days ended when he went home upset after burning his hand on the resistors. Good luck to the marshals !!! They do stay cooler if you only drive full pelt though :)
Can't wait for the video of Carl trying to restore the old NiCd battery.. you zap them with a welder.. it actually works.. I mean.. what can go wrong 😎
Lovely Falcon! Plastics are probably very brittle by now. I recall running a stick transmitter years ago...I don't think you can even buy a 2 channel stick transmitter here in the US. Merry Christmas guys!
If you ever fancy doing a Falcon only race, maybe stock/period with crystal radios for a laugh, please let me know. I've got 3 Falcons including my first hobby grade rc car I got for xmas as a boy many years ago! My little boy and I would love racing them and you're more than welcome to borrow the other one so you've both got one to race 😉 I've also got a 3d printer so could bring along a load of spare parts to keep us going as these cars weren't the strongest when new, and now nearly 40 years down the line with old brittle plastics....well you get the idea!
Love these old RC cars, Im going to contactvand old friend and see if his dad still has his old cars. I know he has some great racers and a OG Tamiya Boomerang I will make a deal on the lot
Would love to see the video of the catalogue you have there, that would be very very interesting. Can't wait to see it boys. Love the channel watch every video as they come out, brilliant content never fails to entertain. 😊😊😊😊😊
Loved my Falcon for many many years ❤️ great video! Makes me want to get my NIB model together 😊 Pro tip shorten your shocks by 5mm 🤠 it will make the model into a race car 😂
Fantastic score guys. Ummm, I'd secure a few back up arms and front end parts before running/racing it. I snagged one years ago of the bay at a decent price. When it got to me I checked the whole thing over and it looked good. One gentle run and I think I broke an arm from memory. Once I started fixing it cracks started to appear all over the place on it. I drew up on CAD all of the suspension arms as well as the front towers and bulkhead thingy. They weren't so robust when they first came out, 35 years later? Plastics have all gone brittle. Anhoo, if I haven't said so already, Merry Christmas.
Reach around? Getting it out?🤣🤣 You boys make me laugh! Seriously though, if it were me that Falcon would not get raced round a track, they are too fragile and as you said spares are a bugger to get hold of. I also wouldn't run the old mechanical speed controller or old radio in any sort of race, if the receiver loses signal the car will drive off into something and smash to bits, the old radio will be so liable to interference it'll be next to useless. Saying that, I can't wait to see Carl give it a go😜😜

Let’s see what happens
@@PopalongRC like all the best things you have 2 guarantees. Lots of fun and scars to take away.
They need to bring the Falcon back.Everybody wants to see it back.
2 versions, OG Falcon and a TRF Black Edition Falcon
@Ravenscry666 that would be cool or a evo model after the original comes back first.
Wow that's amazing, absolute gem 💎 and my first RC 👌
I will do my best with this one
TEAM BLUE GROVE for the body and MCI decals for the stickers. That Falcon will be like glass and you will break it as soon as you bump into anything.
I think the one he was talking to was saying mark upset everybody. he's projecting on to you.
You might have a point there
Have a great Christmas guys! Thanks for all great content in 2024. Looking forward to seeing what 2025 brings. 👍🎄⛄️
@@jamesstrutt2208 many thanks, merry Christmas to you buddy👍
You were saying about how you were reading the book, found a car in the book, went to your dad and then.......

Merry Christmas to you both your videos have kept me going through the year long may the continue

A Very Merry Xmas Gents! and hopefully see you at a track in 2025 after my very frustrating year off RC Racing!

My first Tamiya was a Falcon Mini 4WD as I couldn't afford a 1:10 rc car 💪😍
Would love to see the video of the catalogue you have there, that would be very very interesting.

Now thats an iconic buggy, so is this your entry for revival 🤔 even if you just do one round, that would be epic to see 😎
