  • Today we take a look at the MUSE song "Compliance" and we are glad we did!!
‪@muse‬ are an English rock band from Teignmouth, Devon, formed in 1994. The band consists of Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme, and Dominic Howard. Muse released their debut album, Showbiz, in 1999, showcasing Bellamy's falsetto and a melancholic alternative rock style.

Matt took a lot of inspiration from 1984 when writing the resistance album. United States of eurasia specifically is very obviously inspired by the book. I'd recommend giving it a listen.

I remember this album, they had a whole goose chase for people on the forums and I remember piecing together the song you mentioned and I loved it.
Then I heard Knights of Cydonia and I *KNEW* they would be absolutely bollocks massively popular and there was no going back from that.
      I was right...

You are right when you say that every song sounds different. Each album sounds different from the last one, and that is something I love about them. You just always know that no matter what they put out--it is always going to be creative and awesome. I remember when I first heard "Compliance," I was like, "WHAT?! THIS IS SO AWESOME!"

The genius of this song is in the paring of the song and the music video. The song is easy to listen to, it's pop, the lyrics sound great and it's easy to agree with the message. Then you watch the music video, and you realize everything is backward. Great social commentary.

Muse has always been very politically based since the beginning. But I think it very much heightens their music. Especially with this funky backbeat being "laid back". It's so cool to go through there whole discography to see the things they talk about hasn't very much changed but went with the modern curve through the years! Great reaction! The 2nd law is my favorite album. A perfect mix between heavy but also electronic

Resistance by muse is basically 1984 its amazing, but my top 3 suggestions you have to react to hysteria, the globalist and bliss. The globalist is the most muse thing they have ever done and it is like every album in one, Bliss is just, well, bliss. Perfect, but do the live version. And hysteria shoes of how talented the drummer and the bass are

  • @SebHaarfagre

I love it how you guys never mentioned the Knight Rider theme on the synth 😂
It's in the background and I was surprise you didn't so I guess you have no relation to it; but the first time I heard it in the song I laughed. It's 100% intentional from them.
The Simulation Theory album must have had some inspiration from Kavinsky as well.
Edit: I don't know if it comes through, but I've been a fan of them for over 20 years. I'm just saying they're hyper intelligent but also very cheeky :D They like to express themselves on huge subjects but also to keep it bearable and interesting - I don't know how to describe it but... it's like... "you know. We know. Now let's have some fun"

This is just my take, but maybe the glowing eyes means those three people who started the fire are awake, that they are alive (unlike the people in like who have black/dull eyes like holes). I love your Muse reactions, as they feel like genuine reactions (unlike other TH-camrs who fake it). I can’t wait for Muse from you guys ❤❤❤ Also, completely know what you’re talking about with the lyrics 😉 Uprising is what got me into Muse purely for the lyrics, especially the line “If you could flick a switch and open your third eye, you’d see we should never be afraid to die”. Ruled By Secrecy is another great song (my personal favourite) and talks about the freemasonry and secrecy society’s that controlled the world (past tense).

the music videos are kinda meant to be watched in order of release, as they're all (the main single releases) tied together. So visual style would've made more sense, if you had watched the first single "Wont Stand Down" and the music video that starts the narrative and "visual style and themes" of the album and the world tour they're about to begin in Mexico this month, which I guess will be reflected in their live stage show
EDIT: Wont Stand Down is indeed the first, its actually a heavy song, but more like Compiance and Kill or be Killed had a child together

What I find interesting, but I maybe alone with this thought: On the album there is a song called "Euphoria".. I interpret this as the call of the masses that fell into line as required in "Compliance", calling for the soothing drugs ipolitics) to keep them happily compliant.

  • @DonHaka
    @DonHaka 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I find your discussions to be very interresting, however, i would like to add that these types of lyrics "we can save you, just give us your compliance, we know whats best for you" etc, aren't exclusively related to governments. It could also be about cults, religion etc. I do however agree with the premise that in this particular song it is more about governments, as the whole theme of the album is rebellion against "the emperors" as mentioned in the song 'Will Of The People'.
I completely disagree with your belief that "government isn't gonna save you". This completely depends on what type of people are in government. If all the people in the government are millionaires and billionaires, then yes. The rich (who belong to a very small minority of people in any country) do not care about the average person. They only care about one thing, getting more money. So yeah, if you have a government completely made up of people who do not and cannot relate to the common working man, then you're gonna have a government that lies, decieves and focuses only on lining their pockets.
Your point about the masks is right on! I want to say that this particular situation isn't at all far removed from our current day society. It is in the interrest of the ruling class (the bourgeoisie) that the working class is stripped of all identity, turning everybody who isn't rich into another cog in the machine. They have been doing so for a while now. The introduction of "consumerism" as we call it is one of them. Essentially it means that today, we are defined by the things we consume, the things we buy. Pair that with the constant bombardment of ads from all these worthless private companies telling you what to buy in order to feel better.
Another thing they do, and have been doing for quite a while, is dumbing down the population. They started that a long time ago by cutting funds to public schools and all other amenities. They (our corporate overlords) don't want us to be capable of critical thinking. Whenever the government cuts funding to public amenities you should always be worried.
I highly recommend reacting to George Carlin's bit titled "Dumb Americans" if you haven't already. Cheers!
