  • As a children's book author and illustrator I adore quality illustrations. Some think that the art is an afterthought and, "they are just kids they don't care." I completely disagree. I think children deserve the highest quality available a majority of the time (we have to sprinkle in a few silly books here and there). I am sharing 4 main reason why I think the illustrations do matter.

'Where's my cow' By Terry Pratchett. Its a tie in with his Discworld series, but is actually a very fun kids book.

@@lavenderbookco It helps if you know about the Discworld series, (specifically the Watch books.) but overall the book is cute and the artistry very well done.

@@Mythilt thank you for the suggestion! I’m always looking for books to add to our at home library!

Yes! Good illustration makes the book enjoyable to the parent as well! And this is important because when the reader is enjoying the process it comes across to the child listening!
I too, have been disappointed reading to my kids and only having clip art scenes to look at. They can come across stilted and lifeless.

Yes you get it! I agree with the “clip art” feel that a lot of books have seemed to have adopted. It takes away from the whimsical nature of what children’s books should be ❤
