I got 10"-12" rigid pipe wrenches in steel that I keep for ½" to 1" steel pipe and I have a aluminum 14" 18" and 24" in pipe wrenches for the bigger pipe/fittings. All Ridgid and will last me forever... They definitely are a plumbers specialty tool I use my 10" more than any of them as they fit in my carry bag and pair well with channel locks.
The aluminum pipe wrenches are a lot stronger than you would think though. I work for the local water company and we could not open a fire hydrant so we threw a comically large aluminum pipe wrench on the steamer port. Wouldn’t budge, so we put a cheater bar on it and after a few uggah duggahs, it snapped in half. Two 200lbs men pressing on it and it didn’t immediately snap, I’d say that’s pretty good. We then got out the old dinosaur steel wrench and popped her open. Anyways, that’s my story
