You forgot with lesbian mothers, say 7.5% children of the 1.2% of lesbian mothers. Compared to the 50% of the Russian add. Clearly the US is not interested in recruiting people given the tiny target audience they are appealing to. Which should make you question if it’s really just a virtue signal.
But the real problem, is why do you assume the 50% is not diverse? Is it because you only focus on the abstract general rule and ignore all the other possible ways to categorise the 50%?

I understand the criticism by a lot of GWOT vets but at the same time that's how wars are fought, all of them. All of them have horrible, pointless acts of violence and suffering. It's not supposed to be up to the person on the ground to fight the "just" wars, it's the job of the politicians and top military commanders to try to make the best judgement. I think you can have both types of recruiting ads, both focused on "patriotism"/serving in combat and job/career. Dave made no good points in that clip so I'm not defending him. But I will say to Destiny's point; the military that wiped the floor w/ Saddam's army in 2004 we're not recruited with Emma style ads.

@@MeanStreamFraudCast So all other events playing out the same prior to 2004 I wouldn't see those types of ads making too much of a difference with the types of people who enlisted after 2001. But I don't think it's that much of a stretch to say that the motivations and expectations of those enlisting nowadays are different than those who joined prior to that invasion. It's not just vibes on my behalf but what I've heard from several members who were in (or still are) about the environment of the military colliding with the recent cultural progressive changes. The amount of videos I've seen of current military members behaving way outside the values and norms that every branch has written in code is troubling. There seems to be a real problem with a united cause to serve which is playing out in those kind of disciplinary issues.
I get it, it looks dumb retrospectively for many soldiers during the invasion to say they are fighting for freedom, revenge etc. but that's the types of causes you need to be able to win.
Being 💯 I joined during the Army of One period which caught a lot of flak for it's perceived messaging. So in a way, this is not really something new.

Yup, that's what many folk fall for. They don't understand that modern army isn't about strong male fighters but about very well trained specific task teams.
Ofcourse the male fighter also exists, that's called special ops etc, but an army is way way more than that.

In fact, the Waffen SS was arguably the most diverse fighting force in the world at that time. Though it should be noted that it was mainly because the SS leadership wanted to grow the organisation in order to compete with the regular armed forces, but the latter was getting the lion's share of German manpower so they had to resort to recruiting foreigners.
