My 2005 Volkswagen New Beetle gave an error code of P2187 which means the gas cap might be loose or defective. That code also relates to the oil cap. I made sure both were tight. Now we will see if the check engine light goes off. Fingers crossed.

Thx to this video, I just fixed our 2007 beetle. It has been running rough, stalling and carrying on. I've taken it to one mechanic, and two auto electricians and they couldn't fix it either. So yesterday, I booked it in with the vw dealership here in town. But being xmas, couldn't get it in till next month. Everything in the list has been replaced apart from the cat, and the MAF sensor. All it was, was a bad seal on the fuel cap. I put on a new seal, and bingo...car is running perfectly. Thx Build Your Own.

Great video. I bought a 2006 Beetle 2.5, manual with only 90k pampered one owner miles. All services done by the book, old lady got rid of it because she had bad knees and could not drive stick anymore. I’ve had it as a second car for six months and it’s completely crumbling apart. All new cooling system, front end work, window regulator, all trunk latch mechanisms, clear coat began peeling off like crazy and now a MAF, dive belt and the front end began clunking bad out of nowhere. And that’s all in 3k easy miles. This is one cranky car that I so regret buying. All the pampering the old lady and now me give it and it’s disintegrating quickly. Heart broken

Great looking beetle! I had an '02 same color but mine was a TDI diesel. I would still be driving it but a dump truck pulled out in front of me and I hit him. The little beetle held up like a tank and I didn't have a scratch on me. The front end was destroyed but it still crunk up and drove onto the wrecker. I was praying that they would fix it but they totaled it because the frame was broken just behind the crumble zone up front. Now I have the New New Beetle (2013) 2.0 turbo and love it. I LOVE love love my 2013!

Oh I bet that A5 Beetle drives really nice! I've been thinking about going to test drive one. I'd of course be keeping the 05, plus I'd really love a 02-03 turbo S! Sounds like the TDI is a real tank. I bet that was a great daily driver with lots of low end torque. Glad you made it over the car through! I'm looking at my 1/38 scale 2013 diecast beetle on my desk as we speak! Thanks for commenting! @@BuildYourOwn I love my 2013. It drives so much better than the 02 and the ride quaoity is far superior. I do miss the low end torque of the TDI I had but, this little 2.0 turbo has loads of top end torque and will reallllyyyyyy go. It has the Fender sound system, DSG gearbox (which does take some getting used to), panoramic sunroof, and push button start. I find myself looking for reasons to drive places just as an excuse to get back behind the wheel. lol

    Hey Frank.
I've had Blueberry aka The Beetle since the Summer of 2012 and I've had to replace her Catalytic converter twice. The second time because the state of California didn't like the one I had on it, rules.
I've also changed the MAF sensors, fuel pump, starter, alternator, 2 sets of new tires, spark plugs (once, I think 🤔, while trying figuring out the misfire). Quite a few new batteries.
Generally, she runs fantastic, quiet engine with 100K+ miles. I'm just not understanding why the check engine light is *flashing*
I read your description and seen your video in its entirety.
I recently had my oil changed at *Big O Tires* where they informed me that I needed a new oil pan and the nut & bolt 🔩 were stripped. Since then the light has been on.
I absolutely love my Bug! 01 VW Beetle 2.0 GLS manual transmission. I've spent thousands of dollars on repairs, but what's the difference between those who choose to have a $400+ lease or car note? I can go from every other year and zero repairs or only basic maintenance while they're paying monthly.
Anyways, if anyone has any additional thoughts. Comment below. The Catalytic converter is still under warranty, as are majority of the parts. I also recently purchased the front axle. All original parts are failing. I know that's fine, considering it's a 20 year old car🚙.
    Peace

I've had my 2010 VW New Beetle 1.6L since 2011 and its been going great with minor issues. I recently experienced the "Check Engine" light and the car was still running well although I only drive it once a week. As there were limited service centres opened due to the pandemic, I couldn't send it for inspection until a week later when there was stiffness on the brake pedal. Upon inspection the mechanic discovered that it was due to a faulty brake booster vacuum hose/valve. Do take precaution.

I have a 2002 beetle turbo S what makes an MK 4.1 and how do I maintain that chassis

    • @BuildYourOwn
      @BuildYourOwn  ปีที่แล้ว

The 2006-2010 beetle received mild styling updates inside and out.
      As for maintaining the chassis...
Your driveline and chassis parts are always moving. As the Volkswagen Beetle has front-wheel drive, your wheels are propelled by CV joints. U joints are used on driveshafts in rear-wheel drive vehicles to provide propulsion. Both need lubrication and will break down sooner if left without it. Flexible ball-in-socket joints are used in the suspension of the majority of cars. These joints serve as pivot points, allowing your front wheels to turn and your suspension to flex and bend as necessary.
Every six months, you should check and lubricate your car's chassis. A dry bushing requires maintenance and will cause annoying suspension squeaks and creaks. Your car's chassis and suspension system need to be regularly inspected and lubricated to avoid costly component failures that might leave you stranded on the highway. I would start by bringing it to a respected shop and having the vehicle thoroughly inspected before proceeding.

That's too bad to hear. My beetle is running and driving perfect. These are great German cars but many of the older ones are beat the hell up and neglected. I should do a video on everything I've done. I have done a lot of work off camera. I wonder if you have the automatic gearbox?

Here's my video of everything I've done to my beetle and the cost. If you want a good running beetle this is what it takes th-cam.com/video/rTMmBLn1x1M/w-d-xo.html
