      This is a very strange comment to me. The meaning of DIVERSITY is the condition of having or being composed of differing elements. They are all women and all actresses. I don't see diversity. It's strange how the meaning of the word has been changed in popular culture to mean black people or dark skinned individuals. I was going to say that the word had been changed to only mean race, but then I read the comment above mine so it really does mean black in culture. I suppose it could mean white too since the panel is mixed evenly (almost 4:3). The rest of your comment was perfect. You didn't really need the first sentence at all. I don't see diversity. If there was a actress, a doctor, a teacher, a housewife, a construction worker I might have agreed but they are all in the same industry and are like minded so I don't see diversity. We also use the word diversity as it's supposed to be a good thing, but it's not if you go by the actual definition of the word. Could you imagine if every player on a sports team had a different agenda? Or a company, everyone with different goals, different course of action, agenda etc... the company would fail. Everyone needs to be on the same page regardless of their race and that makes them alike not diverse. *scratches my head* It's interesting how this word has morphed just in the last three years.

    A consistent, simple byline would have worked much better for the titling. Having the Senior Editor’s name pop up in the middle of the screen and then the actors’ name in the lower thirds was odd/inconsistent. Also, I would try out another Director and Set Designer because the camera movements and kitchen was a bit distracting to really focus on what each actor is saying. Love Angela, Laura, and Janelle. 9:47 - A counterfactual, by the way. Suicide rates have not increased in the U.S. during the pandemic, and the trajectories of the mental health crisis among American adolescents have not changed in recent years. The available research on the mental health effects of the pandemic shows much nuance and does provide much evidence of resilience. There has been a mental health crisis among American adolescents for a long time, perceptions of safety relating to gun accessibility being one major factor (but not the only one) as Dern alludes to later. People of all ages need regular exposure to their peers for robust mental health, generally speaking, but school environments are often more stress-inducing than learning from home.

    This was a boring roundtable. These actresses were not asked more questions about their roles and what's it like to be an artist etc.
    Bland conversation. Only Kerry and Danielle felt a little better.
    Also if the Oscars eradicates acting category based on gender then there will be an outcry every year for sexism. As women in general don't get transformative, challenging roles.

  • @gemelwalters2942

    The suggestion to remove gender in the awards would be a sure way to ensure women do not win at the Oscars. We've gotten so caught up in ridiculous identity politics that we've discarded any rational thinking. The majority of films that end up at the academy are historical or based on a true story. In this the number of male roles would outnumber women for the simple reason that women did not have much of a voice in the past and that's not including physical roles. Take the Revenant for example. Not only were there not female fur traders at the time but it would be a sure way to ensure no female actresses get recognized the year that won because the majority of the characters were male. Yes we should ensure there are varying roles for men and women going forward but this suggestion here would only sabotage the efforts women have made. It's tough watching women sabotage their own efforts like this.

      The Gothams did it and Danielle Deadwyler (who may be non-binary herself?) won.
      For institutions like Independent Spirit Awards, they would give out 2 awards instead. Same number of awards, same number of nominees, roughly a 50/50 gender split based on the way these are organized but now with decided inclusion of non-binary actors without forcing them into binaries they aren't comfortable with. This isn't a new radical thing. Awards shows are already doing it successfully, and if there's an issue they can reassess. Better to try and include people and move forward, rather than do nothing and just let performers be erased.

      Or just tell more stories with women. Women have literally shaped all of history. There would be no history or present without women. Tell the truth about male leaders and the women they benefitted from. There are plenty of stories to tell that have been ignored or covered up

    • @stifler12333
      @stifler12333 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will kill the Oscars, because nobody watches those other award shows, and people do watch the Oscars. Having you acting categories cut by two, and probably have a unbalance in nominees is going to throw people off and not want to tune in. The academy needs the money every year, if they take this risk they will lose big. Just make a separate category for LGBTQ+ members, and everyone is satisfied.

    • @gemelwalters2942
      @gemelwalters2942 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@looney1023 That would change nothing. That is why I specifically used an example. If the Revenant was made today under those rules then it wouldn't matter if they handed out two awards, one would go to Leo and the other to Tom Hardy. In no way would it automatically mean a woman would be nominated because the majority of the screen time was allocated to males due to the nature of the story being told. Unless they actively decide to include a female nominee (in the examples you gave) in which case that's already what we are doing by having a separate category so what would be the point.
      Your proposal is essentially to remove categories on paper simply to check a box but actively consider female nominees behind the scenes. So in practice all you've done is remove the categories to appease some people but end up doing the same thing we were doing before. That is redundant and utter nonsense

      Michelle Yeoh gave a joke answer about that but one that makes a lot of sense. She said gendered categories shouldn't be eliminated because they allow for more people to get awards.

    Extremely uncomfortable with an interview in the kitchen and the journalist suggests that the actresses should be baking a cake. it's a sexist comment because a group of men wouldn't be interviewed in the kitchen and they wouldn't be asked to bake a cake. How long are we going to have to put up with this?
