School buses nowadays all seem to have seatbelts. But when I was a kid, none of them did. The school buses had signs on the side that would say things like "Seats 60, Stands 10" meaning that they designed their school bus routes with the idea that 60 kids would get seats and 10 would have to stand. So what's the point of having seat belts when not every kid is even going to get a seat?
The British buses in the 1950s and '60s did not have power steering, meaning one had to rock the bus back and forth in order the turn the wheels. The destination blinds were also adjusted by a hand crank. I volunteer in a bus museum.
I also thought not having seat belts was mainly monetary and safety. 1) including seat belts cost more in materials, labor installation, and upkeep. So don't include them and save on those variable costs 2) people are all sorts of different sizes. During school, 3 elementary kids could squeeze into one seat in desperation, but 2 was common and could hold backpacks and such. By high school, two were very crowded and you would need to put your stuff on the floor if you wanted seat room. Worse if you had 'chubby' people sitting beside you. So the belts would have to fit over small children and almost grown teenagers and adults. Make it for both won't be too bad, but if belts have to be designated for one group, then that limits the usage utility for other groups. Seat belts would end up setting a set space for someone, like an airplane set. And similar to that, you'll have people rolling onto the other's space and you can't move that much to adjust. Plus, you have a heavy buckle or long strap that can be used against someone. The straps could get stuck and locked like in a regular car, so someone could be too tightly strapped in. You would also have to adjust for those different sizes, creating a lot of wear and tear on the material.
The dedicated bus lanes and Bicycle lanes being rare while many more Countries have the dedicated lanes because they recognize the issue and have a lot more
Some bus networks in Canada have transitways, special roads that are only for buses. Ottawa used to have a transitway before a new O Train line was built, and Winnipeg has one too
Some of the newer school buses do have seat belts. The only times I rode on a school bus with seatbelts was when I took my first or second graders on a field trip. There are two seat belts on each seat, but this presented a problem because we had our students sit three to a seat because they were small enough to fit and that way we didn’t have to use so many buses. I didn’t want two students buckled into one seatbelt. That didn’t seem safe to me. So I just told them to sit properly so that the padding of the seats would protect them and not to use the seat belts.
in the U.K. the buses have big buttons on the side of buses beside the doors that open and close doors that are supposed to be used in emergency's only but bus drivers use them to get in and out and there are also some on the ceiling on the inside for the same purpose. Also over here some bus companies have small buses/minibuses for not very busy routes and they have seatbelts on but thats really it. BTW great video as always.

Right, some background here: I’m in the UK. I am a bus driver. I have a lot of knowledge and experience with busses. Bus lanes are everywhere in the UK, to the point where sometimes I drive in them in my car, I get about 10 tickets/fines for this a year. Because I’m so used to driving in them all the time for a living. To clear up comments, some busses do, and some busses do not have seatbelts. Depends on how old the bus is, on that country’s laws, on the bus company’s policies, and most importantly the bus type and manufacturer. @@jaylaphillips7302 yes, you'll need a cat D PCV license and a CPC certificate to drive a full size bus but a full car licence can be used to drive certain minibuses depending on how many seats they have (if I understand it right).
The simple answer is that they don't need them. In a cost/benefit analysis, the cost of adding seat belts to school buses outweighs any potential benefits, according to NHTSA studies. Modern school buses are large and heavy, and their passengers sit high off the ground. This means they are remarkably safe.
Lol no. Especially with how packed some school buses r. If on the edge 1 small bump and ur on the floor if ur not holding on. If ur hauling kids there should be seatbelts. If something that large gets into a bad accident its not gonna be pretty.
Dedicated buss lanes don’t exist in the us. The roads are wide enough for anything to drive on really🤯 Edit:I’ve never seen a steering wheel parallel to the ground in my life🤯🤯🤯
I was once in a bus crash. Nothing serious but we were on the highway and some car pulled right in front of us. The only damage was the license plate on the bus. and the car had a big dent in the back. No one was hurt because our driver slammed on the breaks. But we really felt the force when we skidded to a halt. I looked this up because of that
On My school bus has seatbelts in the first 2 front seats :p Nobody uses them but I did once as a joke and got stuck and needed a teacher to get me unstuck lol
Also dude, there's so much panic in trying to make sure that you'll actually be able to get off the bus in the small amount of time that it'll actually remain at the stop. Could you imagine if you had to wait for the bus to completely stop before taking off your seatbelt when you're in the back row at the top deck of a double decker when bus is already crowded? You might as well just sit back and relax and acknowledge that you won't get off until the last stop on the other side of the city.
Cilia Mendes coaches are designed for longer journeys, city busses don’t due to people not sitting down for very long, some only go a few stops, so putting it on, then taking it off again is just time consuming. I drive busses for a living and our company has 3 busses with seatbelts, all drivers are trained to make sure passengers have them on. When these 3 busses are in use, passengers seem a lot more aggravated just because of the seatbelt. The coaches also often use factor roads such as motorways, while busses usually have slower roads.
In the uk you are allowed to speak to the driver especially about information about the journey or the bus fare, there's no sign not to talk to the driver
曾嘉禾 they have laws that you must wear seatbelts and for all after they had a accident that killed the person due not wearing seatbelt or they have laws like here mandatory by laws ( fines and prison time for breaking the laws )
U can sometimes see the add from the inside of the bus. But it depends on the light inside and out i think. But I know i have read the sold and seen the realtor on the ad from inside the bus as an example.
Nope, in england, they use public bus council companies that own the towns and cities, I go to secondary school by a public school bus, my school bus is served by thamesdown, which owns swindon. Secondary schools in britain don't have a school bus company. They hire the public town buses. And public buses never have seatbelts

XIAO ooohh those ones 😭 I genuinely thought she was talking about coaches 😭😭
I'm American and my school replaced the busses. These new ones came with seatbelts. The old busses however, didn't have seatbelts.
My school bus has seatbelts and im a brit.
Same
Metal handle bars in buses can hurt badly, they should be limited to a minimum and cushioned.
There's one bus in my country that is aerodynamic, it looks so unique so people love to ride it 😃
Drop the name
Buses do have seatbelts
*we just don't wear them*
OMG you embarrassed 😱 the channel 👌
Lol
@Braiden Dominguez lit depends where you live
Exactly dude. Ironically im in a bus and im the only one not using one
t r u
The simple answer is that they don't need them. In a cost/benefit analysis, the cost of adding seat belts to school buses outweighs any potential benefits, according to NHTSA studies. Modern school buses are large and heavy, and their passengers sit high off the ground. This means they are remarkably safe.
Lol no. Especially with how packed some school buses r. If on the edge 1 small bump and ur on the floor if ur not holding on. If ur hauling kids there should be seatbelts. If something that large gets into a bad accident its not gonna be pretty.
Until they crash with the people's kids inside
Rollover accident is the scariest accident for bus passanger. They easly thrown out of the cabin *IF THEY DON'T USE SEATBELTS*
That was so a bad reference back when you are in kindergarten,I laughed so hard!!!!
Dedicated buss lanes don’t exist in the us.
The roads are wide enough for anything to drive on really🤯
Edit:I’ve never seen a steering wheel parallel to the ground in my life🤯🤯🤯

Re: School Buses
Any vehicle that transports children SEATBELTS SHOULD BE MANDATORY
Bryan B like kids would wear them anyway
I learned that the wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round😂😂😂😂
Hey, I am your grampa 2791 sole my idea I watched it before you. I wanted to come back and comment. :l
I was once in a bus crash. Nothing serious but we were on the highway and some car pulled right in front of us. The only damage was the license plate on the bus. and the car had a big dent in the back. No one was hurt because our driver slammed on the breaks. But we really felt the force when we skidded to a halt. I looked this up because of that
That talking light bulb has serial killer wrote all over it.
1980: the future will be so much better
2019: A talking light bulb explains different things about buses
Well thats 2019 for ya people in 1980
On My school bus has seatbelts in the first 2 front seats :p
Nobody uses them but I did once as a joke and got stuck and needed a teacher to get me unstuck lol
Okay, so why do coaches have seatbelts while buses don’t?
Cilia Mendes coaches are designed for longer journeys, city busses don’t due to people not sitting down for very long, some only go a few stops, so putting it on, then taking it off again is just time consuming. I drive busses for a living and our company has 3 busses with seatbelts, all drivers are trained to make sure passengers have them on. When these 3 busses are in use, passengers seem a lot more aggravated just because of the seatbelt.
The coaches also often use factor roads such as motorways, while busses usually have slower roads.
Most coach’s will drive at highway speeds while city busses usually dont
my country has bus seatbelts
I love the last one " the wheels on the bus go round and round😄" 💀haha i love this!
At the end “ you want to know about the wheels” the wheels on the bus go round and round 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😂😂😂
WHO ELES THINKS HE SHOULD MAKE A FACE REVEAL?!?!?!
Oh - No nope
Oh - No I don’t think so. This channel is just a corporate entity. Not one person behind this
In the uk you are allowed to speak to the driver especially about information about the journey or the bus fare, there's no sign not to talk to the driver
Taiwan’s buses have seatbelts and everyone uses them.
曾嘉禾 they have laws that you must wear seatbelts and for all after they had a accident that killed the person due not wearing seatbelt or they have laws like here mandatory by laws ( fines and prison time for breaking the laws )
Should be law in Sweden too, literally NOBODY uses seatbelts, it's like a social pressure thing not to use them lol.
why do motorcycles haven't got seatbelts
Petru Larion airbags are available. Just like truckers have seat belts!
Petru Larion because there dangerous enough if they had seatbelts If the rider gets in a accident they would be crushed in som cases with the bike.
Whoa. You didn't think this question through at all.
U can sometimes see the add from the inside of the bus. But it depends on the light inside and out i think. But I know i have read the sold and seen the realtor on the ad from inside the bus as an example.
Who like bright side from
Bangladesh🇧🇩
Actually Every Single School Bus Ive Been On Has Seatbelts
Same for my State, where you require to have a seatbelt. I guess they weighed less than 10,000 lbs.
Nope, in england, they use public bus council companies that own the towns and cities, I go to secondary school by a public school bus, my school bus is served by thamesdown, which owns swindon. Secondary schools in britain don't have a school bus company. They hire the public town buses. And public buses never have seatbelts
@@Great_WesternTVFan I agree I have the same issue 😃
