2 very impressive harvests. I’d be interested to see a video showing your curing process. Absolutely gorgeous sweet potatoes. Cheers!
I actually just spread them out in the warmest room in our home and keep them out of sunlight in about 4 to 6 weeks the starches have converted to sugar and we are eating them by Thanksgiving , we will save some to grow next year's slips they will keep in storage from this October to next year around September and October we eat the smallest first because they seem to not store as long as the larger ones thanks for watching 👍
You had another awesome harvest !! We pulled ours yesterday and they were about the size you were getting . We ended up with 2 feed sacks full I would think around 100 pounds or so . I was amazed at how well they did with it being so dry this year . There were a couple the size of footballs lol . Thanks for sharing and have a great day !
Glad to hear you had a great harvest of sweet potatoes this year i guess this was the year to grow sweet potatoes in Indiana 👍
Where in Indiana? I'm a Hoosier also, on the south side of Indianapolis near Greenwood. These sweet potato harvests are my first exposure to your channel but I'm subscribing and will be sure to keep watching!
I love to know how did you prepare the soil with. Thank you.
I also would like to know the planting time.
They are huge! It's such a beautiful harvest! 😊 Enjoy!
Thanks for watching 👍
I love your videos. You get to the point, informative and good hearted person. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching and commenting friend 👍
My mouth dropped open watching you pull out those humongous sweet potatoes! Whatever it takes, you're obviously doing it right! My guess was 57 pounds.
Just a personal note: I was a little nervous you might lose your wedding band digging around in the dirt. ☺
Thank you for your comment and for watching , you have a point about my ring lol I will consider that Thank you 👍
WOW Yummy yummy 😋 SWEET POTATO 🍠🍠🍠 LIKE That Congrats 👏🏻 More potatoes 🍠🍠
Congratulations on your fantastic harvest of sweet potatoes! You've clearly done an excellent job with the soil preparation and planting. Enjoy the fruits of your labor!
We sure will friend 👍
A very satisfying watch! The other side of the house was amazing too! Thanks for sharing! Enjoy the bounty. 🌱🌱🌱😀
Thanks for watching friend 👍

That's the second harvest video you should see the first harvest video the potatoes are bigger and almost twice as many , the video is called Amazing sweet potato harvest , it was uploaded right before this video on my channel check it out friend and thanks for watching 👍
Nice watching harvesting sweet potatoes.. I’m your new subscriber
Thanks for watching and commenting and subscribing friend 👍
Beautiful you did good.
Thanks for watching 👍
Don’t them potatoes Have strings from being too big
We haven't experienced that , we like them big because they store longer we have gotten almost a year in storage from the largest sweet potatoes we grow I just uploaded a video on our channel it's called How we cure and store our sweet potatoes check it out if your interested thanks for watching 👍
WOW. I got a tiny amount but I already knew I would because I had trouble getting my slips and so I only had two but hopefully next year I'll have more success.
You should grow your own slips from your own sweet potatoes its very easy to do I have several video's in my playlist that shows how easy it is to do , we start ours every year because they are very expensive to buy thanks for watching 👍
Don't waste all those vines, they are great in stir fry
We eat the smaller leaves in salads and stir fry 👍
I have NEVER seen sweet potatoes that long. They are beautiful. How will you process this harvest?
We will cure them in our back room for 4 to 6 weeks to convert the starch in the potato to sugar then they will be sweet and edible 😋
@@citylotgardening6171Do you have a video of your curing method?
Good morning watching your videos are you trellising your vines up a cattle panel or something like that. I am very interested in knowing your up right process. Your have a very nice harvest. I grew some last year small harvest.
Yes this harvest the vines are trellised on a cattle panel it worked great the first harvest video from the other side of our home was trellised on a homemade trellis I made a few years ago , we don't have the room to grow sweet potatoes along the ground so vertical works great for us thanks for watching friend 👍
Is there any l
reason that SP planted on side of house with less sun would out produce side with afternoon sun? I know smaller plot, but not that much smaller, right?
They actually get about the same amount of sun but the other side gets more intense afternoon and evening sunlight this side gets morning sun and the other side has been amended for many more years then here , I assume after growing and amending here several more years may help with better harvest thanks for watching friend 👍
In Asia , I'd seen some people eating the leaves, too. Put them in soups or made salads after blanching them.
We eat the small leaves in salads and stir fry thanks for watching friend 👍
I may have missed it but do you recall how many slips you planted?
We plant our slips 1 foot apart the row was almost 12 ft long so we were able to get 12 slips planted in this area and harvest almost 55 lbs , the previous harvest video was a 12 foot row with 12 plants that yielded 95 lbs that area was alot more productive thanks for watching 👍
Once again, Awesome! What variety are you growing and how many days to harvest?
We are growing Georgia Jet variety it does well in our zone 5 climate , they usually take 90 to 100 days but we let them go for 120 days to get them a little larger that's how we like them thanks for watching 👍
OK now sweet potato master on ground! 🍠
Lol 👍
Wow what a great harvest again you did very well whatever you did to the soil to plant the potatoes you sure did a great job indeed! Congratulations and enjoy the fruit of your labor and also give thanks to GOD FOR HIS BLESSINGS! 🙏🙏👍👍
The Lord certainly blessed us this year thank you for watching friend 🙏
@@citylotgardening6171 you are so very welcome!🙏 🙏
Just wondering. Do you ever dig under and behind the trellis? The potatoes are as likely to grow in that direction as to the front. ❤
Yes we will dig up the soil after the harvest when we get the soil ready for next year's planting thanks for watching 👍
Awesome. 😅a lot of hard work harvesting that large yield
I enjoyed every bit of it , this yield was only half the size of our first harvest video it was called Amazing Sweet Potato Harvest if your interested in watching it's on our channel potatoes were bigger and twice as many 👍
Absolutely amazing! I am definitely going to watch you when planting your sweet potatoes. Do you ever cut the vines back?
No we just let them grow until harvest time thanks for watching 👍
What a nice harvest. Good job. Do you find you had more success growing those sweet potatoes with the southern exposure of your house, eastern or full sun? Also what is your soil formula more or less? Thanks buddy
This is our second sweet potato harvest video and this planting site faces East and yielded an ok harvest but our first sweet potato harvest video titled Amazing sweet potato harvest yielded more and larger sweet potatoes in the same size area and that planting site faces West and it truly was an amazing harvest it's on our channel if your interested , I believe you would enjoy that video if you haven't already seen it , in both areas I amended the garden soil with potting mix , composted cow manure , grass clippings , leaves , bone meal , and organic tomato and vegetable fertilizer hope this helps and Happy Holidays friend thanks for watching 👍
@@citylotgardening6171 thank you so much for replying. Yes I will watch the video and probably subscribe. I am in South East TX and love that the growing season is longer compared to northern CA. Thanks again.
Ohhhh my goodness! Thats an awesome harvest, God is Good! Enjoy all the awesome different kind of ways nd recipes to try nd enjoy....Healthy treats . Thanks for sharing....
Our first video called Amazing sweet potato harvest was better then this one we got twice as many potatoes and they were larger but it's still a nice harvest thanks for watching friend 👍
Wow they are so
Wonderful job! What time of year do you all plant your sweet potato's? Thanks for posting this video!
We plant our slips around June and harvest at the end of September or beginning of October depending on the weather , our first harvest video we have on our channel is better then this one we yielded twice as many sweet potatoes and the potatoes were bigger its called Amazing sweet potato harvest check it out friend and thanks for watching 👍
Thanks! I'm in Louisville so probably about the same planting times! @@citylotgardening6171
If you know a farmer anywhere near by the cows love those vines.
Great idea thanks for watching 👍
You’re welcome!
Lots of sweet potatoes. Do you guys eat them all or share with family?
We share with family , friends , and our neighbors thanks for watching 👍
Fantastic output. Easier way to weigh them is to just weigh yourself first, then weigh yourself holding the box or bucket of taters, then do the math while drinking a whey protein shake.
Lol , got it 👍
You know you can eat the greens off the plants.
Yes we eat them in salads and stir fry thanks for watching 👍
this was fantastic I am amazed at the size. Forgive me if i missed it, but how deep is the soil? You've inspired me to grow sweet potatoes next season.
The amended garden soil is a foot deep then we hit clay soil , I have a better harvest video on my channel where we harvested twice as many potatoes and the potatoes were bigger in the same amount of space its called Amazing Sweet Potato Harvest check it out if your interested thanks for watching 👍
You did very well.
Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
Hello, I was one of your subscribers last year had a sorry "harvest" of a handful skinny green bean size of murasaki and stoke sweet potatoes. This 2023 I planted beauregard in piles of birch leaves in a 1 x 9 foot raised bed, and got about 10 pounds of mixed size sweet potatoes , not bad for me, too bad they are not as sweet as what people say, the worst part is most of them had chewing marks from some unknown soil pests. I think you made a video earlier this year about how to prep your new raised bed soil to plant SP, use a little lime sort of ? could you please give me the link ? and some advise to treat those pests for next year. Thank you very much. and congratulation for your marvelous harvests.
Our first sweet potato harvest video for this year was better than this one more potatoes and bigger its the video loaded before this one called Amazing sweet potato harvest check it out it's the best harvest so far for us , and what we did was amend the soil with potting mix , composted cow manure , grass clippings , leaves , bone meal and organic tomato and vegetable fertilizer early in the spring before planting our slips . I've grown several different varieties including the one's you have grown and Georgia Jet is by far the best in my opinion from our results for size and number of potatoes , as far as your pests it could be voles or moles we used small live mouse traps from Amazon and caught the voles and released them in the forest (we don't kill the animals ) . We also used a castor oil spray made for moles to repel them and it worked we bought it from Lowe's hardware . If these don't work I would suggest moving your sweet potato planting spot to a different area all together we did and it stopped the chewing problem for us hope this helps friend I have video's on our channel of earlier plantings and how we did it I will be doing a video in the spring of exactly how we plant them and how we amend the soil thanks for watching 👍
@@citylotgardening6171 It is admirable that you are always kind and patient passing on your knowledge to others. Thanks again sir.
@@lizzywood4411 one thing I forgot to mention Lizzy is that All varieties of sweet potatoes need to be cured after harvest before eating them the curing process converts the starches in the sweet potato to sugar to make them sweet it's a simple process of harvesting the sweet potato leaving the soil on them (don't wash them) and storing them in a very warm environment out of direct sunlight for a few weeks the warm dark environment will convert the starches into sugar then they are ready to be eaten I have a video on our channel called How we cure and store our sweet potatoes if your interested on this process thanks again 👍
Do you eat the greens? They are delicious.
Yes we eat the small leaves in salads and stir fry thanks for watching 👍
These were all big ones ! Be sure to dig super deep and check for more hidden ones .
Thanks for commenting and watching 👍
Another great harvest C..L.T. if you move the house you might find another 30 lbs of Sweet potatos , well done
Lol , I like the way you think 👍
Fantastic harvest! Feeling very inspired to do this along my driveway. I would love to see your process for getting them in next year…how you prep the bed and get them well established ect.
I will do a video in the spring of how we get the soil ready and plant them , I do have a video of planting these on our channel and I also have a video of planting them last year in a large above ground compost pile I made with large bags of fall leaves as a border it worked out great and I just grabbed the vines and pulled and the potatoes just popped out of the soil check it out if your interested and thanks for watching friend 👍
Would you once again tell me what type of ingredients you put on or around your crop please? Very impressive.
We amended the soil with potting mix , composted cow manure , grass clippings , leaves , bone meal , and organic tomato and vegetable fertilizer everything but the kitchen sink lol 👍
@@citylotgardening6171 Thank you
Moles don’t eat vegetation, but voles do😊
Ok , I didn't know that so thanks for sharing and watching 👍
Beautiful. Did you take a fork through both beds, to be sure you got them all?
Yes we went back through both beds I found 2 more potatoes here and none on the other side , thanks for watching 👍
@@citylotgardening6171 Wow, I really thought you'd find more than that. Either way, it was a beautiful harvest over all. 😁👍
Another bountiful harvest! After your first bed harvested, you mentioned you were going to go thru both beds to capture any potatoes you missed. Did you find any?
We tilled up the soil in both areas and added compost for next year's grow but didn't find anymore potatoes just roots I thought for sure I missed some but only found roots they actually grew right around the base of the plants maybe because we grew the vines vertically on the trellis that stopped the vines from pinning along the ground and growing small potatoes everywhere 👍
@@citylotgardening6171 This is just amazing to me that you can use such a small space and actually produce sweet pots enough for your family for a whole year. No giant garden, no over planting, vines out of the way growing vertically. (which look very nice, by the way) Just a general knowledge of soil needs. You definitely work smarter not harder and it allows more space in your larger garden. Bravo!
wow
Thanks for watching 👍
Nice harvest! I admire the way you grew them, they took up a lot less space! Thanks foe filming!
Our Amazing Sweet Potato Harvest video was better we got twice as many and the potatoes were bigger but this harvest was ok thanks for watching 👍
Awesome! Just like the first.
Thank you for your comment and for watching friend 👍
The leave are also edible...
Yes , we prefer the newer smaller leaves for our salads and stir fry 👍
@@citylotgardening6171We love the leaves sautéed like spinach in olive oil with onions, garlic, and salt.
Happy and enjoy sweet potato harvesting...
Thanks for watching 👍
@@citylotgardening6171 you're welcome
Omg! I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I planted some slips in tires. If I get one of those potatoes I will be thrilled 🤗 ❤
You should really check out our first sweet potato harvest video from the other side of our home its called Amazing Sweet Potato Harvest on our channel the sweet potatoes were larger and the yield was twice as many as this harvest it's really a great video better then this one , I'm sure you will also have a great harvest of your Sweet Potatoes thanks for watching 👍
@@citylotgardening6171 I did watch it before watching this one 90+ pounds of sweet potatoes. Just amazing 👏 😍
Great!!!
Thanks for watching 👍
Your video is a great reminder of the value of patience and perseverance. It takes a lot of time and effort to grow and harvest melons and oranges, but the end result is so worth it. And the fact that you're able to make a living by selling them at the market is even more impressive. Keep up the great work! And it's an honor to have you visit our channel, we can discuss more about our experiences in harvesting and building farms.
Thank you for your kind comment friend and I will check out your channel and thanks for watching 👍
Another great harvest. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
Awesome

Thanks for watching friend this sweet potato harvest was ok but our first sweet potato harvest video was way better 👍
I am a new subscriber, yummy yummy ❤️Sweet Potatoes, thank you for sharing.
Thanks for commenting, subscribing , and watching 👍
Amazing! You kept pulling out football-sized potatoes, and I was just in awe of how much food you got from such a small space. How will you cure and store them?
We just uploaded a video on our channel called How we cure and store our sweet potatoes check it out it's very informative thanks for watching friend 👍
Holy crap. I'll have to grow them vertically from now on I guess. What variety is this?
This variety is Georgia Jet they are very easy to grow , I add composted cow manure , bone meal . Lawn clippings , organic tomato and vegetable fertilizer and composted leaves to the soil before planting my slips hope this helps thanks for watching 👍
Wow i love sweet potatoes that's a nice harvest 😊
Thanks for watching friend 👍
I'm in zone 9A, I grow in bags. I am waiting to harvest and see what I get. I'm also growing Georgia Jets and Beauregard
I'm sure you will have a great harvest from those grow bags thanks for watching 👍
Very nice u could plant more where u put that basket to put them potatoes that potting soil is very nice I love to watch I love to doo my farming as well here in Jamaica love nice 🇯🇲
Thanks for watching friend , the first harvest video we uploaded was better then this video , we harvested 95 lbs from about the same area its called Amazing sweet potato harvest check it out if your interested 👍
Is sure the condensation from the AC unit kept them watered all summer lol. I use it on my plants to utilize it. I keep a 5 gallon bucket under the outlet pipe and empty it when it's full . you could run a section of old garden hose down the bed with small holes in it to gravity water that bed . If it gets to be to much you could collect it for future use or use in other areas.
That's a great idea I'm gonna try that thanks for sharing and watching 👍
Wow!!!!!
Thanks for watching 👍
We subscribed. We have a gardening channel too. You can check us out if you want.
I will do that friend 👍
@@citylotgardening6171 Thanks so much!
hi,how about the potatoe tops, did you eat that,it is delicious veggies, good for the production of red blood cell in our body
Yes we eat the small leaves in salads and stir fry thanks for watching 👍
You know sweet potato vines are edible greens just wash them and wilt them . Really tasty and healthy . God bless you.
Yes we eat the small leaves in salads and stir fry thanks for watching 👍
Where do I find the part how you trimmed the vines? And which direction are they planted
I paused the video when I trimmed the vines to shorten the video I have had comments in the past on some of my videos that say my video's were too long so now I shorten them by cutting out the boring parts like cutting the vines , this bed is facing east and yielded around 55 pounds , the first sweet potato harvest video that yielded 95 pounds was on the other side of our home and was facing west and that video was better in my opinion it's in my playlist if your interested in watching it it's called Amazing sweet potato harvest thanks for watching 👍
😍
What a beautiful and abundant harvest🙏🏼❤️
This harvest was good but our first harvest video called Amazing sweet potato harvest was better we had twice the yield and the sweet potatoes were larger thanks for watching friend 👍
😲wow. GIANT.
These were nice but our first sweet potato harvest video had more and larger sweet potatoes it's called Amazing Sweet Potato Harvest if your interested it's on our channel thanks for watching friend 👍
@@citylotgardening6171 Yeah, I watched that one already. I came to see this one after you recommended it when I commented on that one.
This was nice to see. Do you have to cure them before eating?
Yes they have to be cured to convert the starches to sugar and make them sweet I will be doing a video this week on how I cure and store them thanks for watching 👍
Fantastic harvest! My mouth was watering over all those sweet potato leaves. I would have harvested all of them and the tips of the vines, blanched them and froze them in portions for sweet potato leaves all year! Yum!
What a great idea thanks for sharing and for watching friend 👍
@@citylotgardening6171 You are an amazing gardener. I just discovered your channel and am slowly watching the videos. I love your sweet potato harvests. Have you tried growing other sweet potato varieties? The beauregard types are too mushy for me. I prefer the sweeter starchier sweet potatoes.
Nice second harvest. Great job
Thanks for watching 👍
Do you keep cuttings year after year, buy slips, or create slips? Also, do you cure your sweet potatoes?
We cure and store these and next spring we use the ones we haven't eaten to make our own slips to start the cycle all over again I have several video's in my playlist of how to do this its very easy to do and yesterday I loaded a video on how we cure them and store them so they last all year check them out if your interested and thanks for watching 👍
I will take a look, but I think I am good on the curing. I might need to figure out how to do the cool cure in 9A@@citylotgardening6171

We eat the small leaves in salads and stir fry thanks for watching friend 👍
I seen both harvest, awesome around 140 pounds of sweet potatoes
Thanks for watching friend 👍
Great harvest! Quick question: I noticed you said you guys had a mole/vole issue earlier in the year. What do you do to try to minimize damage to your root crops?
I used live traps made for mice and caught 6 voles I release them in the forest , I sprayed castor oil spray along the ground for the moles and didn't have a issue with them after that they hate that smell and it worked very well for us I got the castor oil mole spray at Lowe's hardware and the live traps for the voles (mice ) on amazon thanks for watching 👍
Was wondering your state and growing zone
We are in central Indiana zone 5b thanks for watching 👍
