@@jeffsuter344 I don't think anything is permanent at Marvel. I also don't believe the new spines will last but that does not mean they will go back to the old design. I think they will eventually go with the title logo like they did with the Man-Thing omnibus reprint. The new spine is garbage. Outside of Defenders Omnibus- I won't touch it. I now have more loot to spend on other things. I can wait until F.F. Omnibus vol. 10 and decide what spine I want. They will probably have several options by then.
They never issued a public statement, only informal replies to Omar. I'm sure they will change them back if pre-orders for the next new volumes and initial non pre-ordered sales for the recently released ones show a noticeable decrease compared to first half of 2021's trends. Personally I stopped pre-ordering Marvel classic Omnis and I posted on eBay the books I was forced to buy without knowing of their design changes (like Captain America 3, I'll do the same with ASM 5 when it arrives). No one can reasonably explain why they changed so drastically without any prior notice, why they love such a horrible new design, and why they just don't consider of offering dustjackets with the classic dress (for which True Believers spent hundreds of US$ in the past) as Variants.
@@jimjohnson1305 Amen. Even if they were to sort out this mess and restore the classic dress, my trust in Marvel is at its lowest ever. Even DC is more reliable now, between Omnis and completion of OHCs runs, and that's a very low bar.
I am so happy they reprinted this. I was afraid that it would never get reprinted. I have Vol. 3 & Vol. 4 ordered and I can not wait to dive in. Great review!
Ooof. These new spines just look like absolute crap. Honestly, I didn’t even notice the creators names until you pointed it out. Let me get a magnifying glass. Whatever committee designed this sure didn’t want to decrease the size of the word “Marvel” though. What a kick in the teeth to the actual talent behind these stories.
So Marvel take out text to make the thumbnail covers on the back slightly bigger but make the spine info waaaaaay smaller…….ok this makes zero sense…..
Just got the reprint of 2 (I had vol. 1 already), and will definitely be getting this next few weeks, one of the greatest comic runs ever and a true classic.
The only difference I see other than the back cover and spine is around the 12:50 mark at the bottom they added some small type saying which issues are included. I'm content with my older printing.
Of course I got the Kirby cover of this omnibus…it is the King! It has been so long since I have read some of these it’ll be like the first time. I had completely forgot about Crystal being a temporary member of the team. Great review as always Omar.
The condition of your copy is more than likely a result of the mix between Penguin/Randomhouse's lack of sufficient pakaging material to protect the product and the use of UPS. We've been back and forth with PRH about this where I work, and this needs to change. Most of our recent shipments from them did not have sufficient packing material to protect our orders, and UPS has never cared with how they handle their packages.
They still have like 45 issues of Michilinie's work between the eric larson book and the start of the clone stage they need to put into an omnibus. Mark bagley was the artist for those issues I believe.
Hi Omar, I’ve not read any FF before, my childhood was cartoons mostly, I’m catching up now tho. I’m getting the DM Kirby cover. Once I get vol 4 I’ll start reading these. I have spidey by mcfarlane on the way too. I did get what if vol 1, and ASM vol 5 last week 😊 great video Omar. Thanks my brother 😊
Great Review, can’t wait till mine arrives!! Have you heard if the FF Byrne’s Vol. 2 omnibus will get a release anytime soon with all the FF releasing over the next year??
Damn you Omar, you cover too many Omnis, i'm after with my rent because of you. Just kidding brother, love your work and it's because of you that i refound my love for comics
I just hope Marvel is reading these comments and about how many people HATE the new spines. Come on Marvel, I've already skipped purchasing 3 of these books because of this, and I will continue to pass on every single one you do like this.
The new spines when combined with 4 other Omnis, like Spider-man just looks stupid on the shelf. Switching spine font size is foolish. They could have easily offered different options, and chose to ignore a very large customer base. I am not the only one with this complaint, the threads are full of them.
@@johnjenkins8918 In Germany, there's a school of thought that hardcover books should be laying in the shelf, not standing. What do THEY say to spine design? This is all ridiculous.
Omar has stated silver age and Claremont because it didn't have a picture, but the Mutant Massacre spine seems like the old school ones, he shared it on NMC's social media.
People are complaining about something so futile as the design of the spines, but keep excusing those horrible bindings. At this point, an Epic Collection is much better than those Omnis.
They made the title font smaller to allow more room to highlight the creators but the creators names are microscopic. I just don’t understand
These spines their doing now are awful any chance they'll go back to the originals?
Nope - permenant change for silver age

It is nice to see that Marvel is having Amazon ship out reviewer copies of omnis now.
Joe Sinnott was my personal favorite Kirby inker. Did a hell of a job any artist he inked in fact.
My all time favourite inker
He improved any pencil artist he inked over. Jolting Joe was the 🐐.

I went with Alex Ross cover because he’s my favorite artist.
Same
Same
Yup, don’t usually go with the standard cover but Ross needs to be displayed on the shelf 👌🏻

Oh, man -that annual with the kind of homage to yearbook photos is really dope. Looking forward to that blast from the past!
This is the 2nd Fantastic Four Omnibus that I've seen you review that the cover is jacked up.

So true!🤣

This is my favorite run, FF 84-87 is the Doom story i love most.

The artwork and colours really seem to pop in this printing! Looking forward to adding this to the library regardless of spine design. Thanks Omar!
Really wish they didn't change the spine
OH I've never seen a brand new book that banged up lol
Thank for the overview !!!

This was so high on my re-print wishlist, can't wait to get this (& Vol 4)! GERRUP

I have the DM 1st edition version but would have bought the SM if Ross had recreated that classic cover to issue 82. Love Kirby FF!!!
Kirby is the king for a reason.
I hope they make David Michelinie Spider-man Omni, but I'm guessing they broke it up between Mcfarlane and Larsen
They still have like 45 issues of Michilinie's work between the eric larson book and the start of the clone stage they need to put into an omnibus.

Are they planning on using these new spines on the early next year Uncanny X-Men reprints? I sure hope not.
My chance of finally getting this.

Preordered 2 and 3....cant wait to read but those spines they will be sitting behind other books on the shelf. Won't be getting vol 4.
Gorgeous, gorgeous art here. My copy is ordered and on its way!
Oh yeah!
Do you think you'll get an advance look at the Deathstroke by priest omnibus? I'm super keen to see that bad boy.
Vol 3 & 4 being shipped as we speak.
So happy I bought thisbywars ago. However Romain is a legend and does great matching spines.
Great Review, can’t wait till mine arrives!!
Have you heard if the FF Byrne’s Vol. 2 omnibus will get a release anytime soon with all the FF releasing over the next year??
Already ordered this (Alex Ross cover) and Vol 4. Just need Vol 1 one now, already have Vol 2.
How many omnis will it take for this to catch up to the John Byrne volume 1 ?
At least volumes 5 and 6, possibly 7 depending how they map it and how big they are.
@@jamesleblanc7437 i was thinking about the same, another 3-4 omnis to fill the gaps. Hoping it doesn’t take a decade to release them though
4 (5 tops)
I agree. At least 4.
❤
Just got my copy.
Omar, can you ask if there were any restoration improvements done specifically for this volume
There weren’t sadly. But I hope we get more of the same like volume 2
So pleased to see comments about the contents rather than endless Monsignor about spines.
Damn you Omar, you cover too many Omnis, i'm after with my rent because of you. Just kidding brother, love your work and it's because of you that i refound my love for comics
random question that popped into my head while watching this... did the King Kirby ever draw Wolverine?
NOPE.
No
Yooooooiooooo Omar they got me good this week IST!! All 3 books I got FF 3/4 Spider-Man / ASM vol 5 good me good 😡😡😡😡 bastards
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan-TASTIC!

Sounds like your problem🤣 dumb reason honestly
Sorry buddy, that ship has sailed. Skipping books for a reason like that seems silly, but you do you.
But you're okay with silver age books colored like this inside? Wonky priorities, my man...

Blackbolt!
Well…it’s not crap…but it’s also not the FF by John Byrne Vol 2 Omni reprint we really want. So Marvel only needs a partial enema on this one.
lol but what about Ghost Rider?
Alex Ross cover IS the best
❤❤
So are the Uncanny X-Men reprints gonna have those awful spines too? I guess I gotta sell my original printings...
Only Silver Age. Not the Claremont years.
@@LiteratureInPictures I hope you're right.

Keep your copies, its the contents what matter not just the spine.
That book looked like you ordered it from Amazon.
I’ve had worst from Amazon
@@NearMintCondition You said it but if folks are unsure about preorders at least you have the option to cancel or swap
Are you returning that omni?
Ha. No, it was a review copy. Someone already emailed me and asked If they could have it. So I’m sending it their way in the next few weeks.
