When I as a Merchant Marine officer, I carried my Buck 110 with me daily. It would dull cutting through a 6" diameter hawser though. Nice video. P.S. I bought it in 1976. I still have it today.

The Buck 110 was my EDC before existed. Bought mine from a gunshop in North Queensland in 1987 when I started my apprenticeship as a diesel mechanic. It lived on my belt in a handmade crossdraw sheath from Sunshine Leather in Cairns. Carried it for nearly 3 decades until “safety” regulations in mining forbade non-approved knives.

@@herbtender910 do you mean the Puma Whitetail, or the Puma White Hunter? they're two different knives. the White Hunter is kind of the classic that I would assume you were talking about, but you also claim he killed hundred of people armed with AKs and SKSs, using a knife, so I'm more inclined to believe that you're just full of crap.

@@herbtender910 yeah, it's a pretty iconic knife. $36 was a lot of money back then for a knife. you could buy a used or mil-surp rifle for that, so it was kind of a status symbol. my dad has one, but I think he mostly used a Morseth back then.

I bought my first Buck knife in 1971 and wore it all through high school. No one ever questioned that. That was carried on the belt. We never called it edc we just had it as part of being the hunting guy crowed. Stopped carrying it in the 90s in favor of the lighter pocket carry ones. Now I’m back to the Buck 110 auto, belt carry and love the thing. They are legal to carry in my state. Their warranty is awesome as well as their CS.

As a guy whose first knife was a buck 110 there is nostalgia is huge selling point of this blade. I would love to have one specifically because this update is just beautiful it's simple it's something to give to your son and personally I love the version with hardwood handles. I know yall are reviewing the 112 but damn that brings back some of the most fun I've had in the woods a single shot 20 guage a buck 110 and ruger 22 pistol was my go to for hogs Squirrels rabbits and deer. Just remember to bring the slugs. Damn good memories.

Ditto. When I was 10, I think my dad gave me a big Wenger SAK, but a summer camp counselor stole it so I never got to use it-so it doesn’t count. My first pocket knife was the 110. Solid knife.

Good review. My buddy is dying of ALS, on his last months, completely immobile. He JUST got all of us friends one of these with the wood handle as a goodbye gift, and had the blade inscribed with: Keep Hammerin'. It's the finest knife I've ever had. It'll be an heirloom that I'll pass down. Doubt I'll ever use it, just treasure it. But as a knife that wasn't so sentimentally attached, it is the nicest, highest quality knife I've ever personally owned. Not the kind of knife I carry normally, but it's a damn fine knife. I mean, what else do you except from Buck? They make super high quality simple utilitarian knives that will last generations, and they execute that goal perfectly. Going to treasure this knife for both the sentimental value and the quality top-tier craftsmanship. And then my son will as well.

I have a 110 in my hunting fanny pack, great "small" knife for field dressing deer. You are spot on with the sheath/belt/vest comment, ranchers and construction workers don't typically keep things "in pockets" but on your belt or a second tool belt. The standard stanley utility knives with a rat tail on the end are honestly some of the most useful knives for "actual work."

The Buck 110 and 119 are staples of knife tradition and heritage. SO much of what we have now grew from what they started. The designs were modified by many and through evolution and 1st kind of cool utility, grew into the many options we have now. While I feel BUCK came out of the hunting traditions, I feel like the Case heritage came out of the agriculture community, carried in pockets all over the country throughout the history of our country. These designs are timeless, like granite in a kitchen, they endure the test of time. True to say, our great grandchildren will be familiar with these brands as they evolve through time. 1st cool that becomes 2nd cool over time, an interesting and thought provoking topic for the future. Thanks for the content, we're still here.

I have a stainless Wenger that I got at Costco's about 12 years ago. It came with a 3 year warranty. In the last year of the warranty, I waited until the last month and sent it in after a battery replacement didn't solve the problem. Wenger sent it back in a couple of weeks all good. They replaced the guts. Ever since then, whenever it'd stop working, I'd just replace the battery and tick-tock-tick-tock-tick-tock again. I paid about 80-something bucks for it. I love that thing. I've only put in 2 batteries since the warranty service so I guess I'm probably getting a little over 4 years of battery life on mine.
And I JUST got my first Buck 110. WOW. Amazing what $45 can still buy you in a knife. USA made, decent enough stainless steel, lifetime warranty which I'll probably never use because it's a pocket knife and the worst thing I'm going to do with it is field dress a deer (otherwise, it'll just do real-world camping stuff like cutting cordage or opening plastic packs of food in the field or from time to time, scraping some sap off a tree for a firestarter).
That 110 Auto is made to look "used" from the get-go from the blade to the matte finish handles to the brushed-like brass. My budget 110 standard looks like it's a hundred dollar knife out the box.

  • @xraydelta100
    @xraydelta100 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I have two of the Buck 110's rosewood? handle types, bought a second one after I broke the point of the blade on a repair. I've always liked Buck....used the 5" Buck hunter to save my Akita from two large Malemutes: one on his neck and the other trying to hamstring him. Used the 110 to put down small game the Akita chewed up but didn't kill and eat when we were out in the BLM. I have two K-bars that I have ultimate faith in for using as a digging implement or stopping an attack. Used a K-bar in Vietnam as a Navy River Assault gunner and have kept one ever since. K-bars work for cutting fish nets wound around riverboat props (Early 1969, Operation Giant Slingshot...operated 10 to 20 miles from Cambodia in the Plain of Reeds and elsewhere in the Mekong. And I am not a proponent of high capacity magazines....never needed that in a .45 cal. All my pistol business usually just required steadfastness or muzzle under the chin in the dark. Always worked. Hollywood has created a generation of viewers that see endless multiple shots. The one time I blew up a building and also strafed out about a hundred yards of length of village, probably killing and wounding an unknown number of civilians: men, women, children and their animals, I only fired off about 150 rounds of 20 mm mg, belted 1 APT, 2 Incendiary, 2 HE in about 30 seconds. Our unit was responding to a number of rockets fired at near point blank range from the village. Our boats were only about one hundred yards or less from the strip village along a very narrow canal. We were expecting a second ambush later that evening at Rocket Alley or the Four Corners. Glad we didn't, I found an HE stuck in the breech waiting for the next round to slam into it.....LOL. I always kept flak pants covering the breech in case the gun blew up, which some did over there. I had a Browning 30 cal mg the Engine man and I mounted as a back up weapon over the 20 mm. Otherwise, my original back up weapon which I had to use a number of times when the 20 went kaput in a fight, was the reliable M79 grenade launcher. Well, this rambling wasn't about knives much...but I am old and wander a bit. Thanks for the patience guys. And I have always enjoyed your channel, keeping it real. Final word, I also used a 5 shot Ithaca pump shotgun for sniper security work during that period, when we had the 9th Infantry boys sweeping and destroying or sweeping the NVA towards the river.

I kept a knife in my jeans (pocket) held by a clip as an EDC for a few years and I loved it.
Went to my uncle's ranch one day and got to help out herding cattle and riding horses!
It was so cool except at some point during the day the damn knife came loose and I lost it, never saw it again and it's probably still out there in the field getting stepped on by cows!
The thing that kills me about it is that my uncle, who's this old timey rancher type said that would happen and I should use a belt sheath the same way he does it.

I edc a buck 110 from the custom shop with elk handles, brass bolsters engraved with my initials and birthday. A lot of people don’t like the 110 because of the weight and having to carry it on the belt. I’ve honestly gotten used to it granted I’ve been carrying it for 3 years. I used to carry only benchmades and it took a bit getting used to the 110. That being said I have absolutely no intention going back to carrying a benchmade. My grandfather has been carrying a 110 for years. His first buck was a 112 which was my first knife. I own a few bucks a 112, 3 110s, 119 and a 124.

Some things should not be messed with. The 110 was a game changer in 1963, it was the iconic blade for decades, it had build quality and mass following. This auto version is an odd attempt to take a iconic classic and make it theoretically be competitive with modern autos while maintaining its traditional design materials and weight. No one today wants an auto that rides in a belt carried sheath that weighs nearby a half pound. There are countless options that beat this is every way. I would rather spend my money on an original Buck 110 with original materials and original design. It had been iconic for 60 years nearly, some things we shouldn’t mess with. This is one.
I grew up using a 110 and I have a few original 110’s in my collection. Iconic pieces that I hold dearly to my heart.
This one however should have never been produced in my opinion. The auto functions gains in opening are negated by its carry method. It’s never been a tactical blade, don’t try to confuse what this classic is!

nutnfancy, Buck has come out with this knife themselves. They are using 420 HC steel and the handle iHANDLE:Crelicam® Ebony. On Buck’s site they ask $200US.
If you ever meet me, I can pretty much guarantee you that on my belt you’ll see either a Buck 110 or Buck 112. I’ve carried knives with the belt clip for work. But my personal choice is the 110 or 112. I’ve owned 1 of my 112’s since the 80’s. I’ve given a lot of both models as gifts.

I like that Buck added this to their lineup. Much of their pocketknife line seemed heavily centered around the super cheap market for the longest time, so this is nice to see. However, given the blade steel, I would like to see this knife as it is at the $100 street price market. Maybe, with more options like you mentioned, we could starting working our way to $200, but this knife as it exists seems to be a way to recoup the automatic mechanism R&D investment. Peened pins in a knife of this price is also a mistake if you ask me. It leaves the end user with no option of in-field maintenance or repair. I am glad to see Buck enhancing their line, but I want to see this happen across the board, and I want more competitive offerings if they are intent on asking Benchmade-esque prices for their blades. Buck makes fantastic fixed blades at reasonable or understandable prices, but their folders are either much too cheap in quality for me or are ridiculously overpriced like this with very few options.

Nutn is correct about ranchers/construction workers favoring a belt sheath. Its far easier to take it in and out of a sheath than trying to clip a knife on a pocket especially if the clip is stout. Plus when working you'll always have crap in your pockets (sockets, nails, backy) so the clip knife gets in the way. Working around the hospital I work at now I don't want belt sheaths but back when I worked construction I didn't care about walking around with multiple sheaths of various tools.

On my ship, all the boatswains mates had the 110's. The first edc knife I was introduced to. I still have mine! Polish the brass on mine with Nevr-Dull. To help flip theirs out one-handed, they would loosen the pivot. I consider it a relic though now. It's just like carrying a battleship, even in a belt case.

What I feel like this would work for me is when I want to dress up and be more traditional sort of like going to church or an event I carried a buck 110 for years as a kid it would be nice to have that burst of nostalgia and still have a lifelike I'm used to carrying today

My dad would love this. He’s carried a buck knife on his belt as long as I can remember (and probably before that). I’ve bought him “better” more modern knives trying to convert him and he wants nothing to do with it.

This was a short video with a lot of condensed material, but I think one POU should have been focused on more. Not as an EDC blade but as a hunting/wilderness personal defense blade. Many hunters from coast to coast have grown up with Buck 110 knives, and love the childhood nostalgia, but this auto function makes it a valid defense knife. Defense from predators I mean. I wouldn't want to have a bear or cougar charging me, pistol jam or fail, and have to rely on pulling my folding Buck 110, from it's snap top sheath on my belt, in time to save my life. I don't think the 110 can be considered an EDC blade for more than 2.5% of the population. I feel this knife is an improvement on the 110, in the sense that it can be considered more of a wilderness defense knife now, instead of just a cleaning and capeing knife. This video just seemed like it was trying to shove the 110 into the EDC blade category, just because they added an auto deploy feature. Still a big fan of the NtF channel though!

Yes it was,and is a belt carry style knife. I carryed one for years till I un- locked w the palm of my hand (that was some super glue and bandaids). Thumb lock or fixed for now on. It is still a great traditional knife though.

Some of us don't like clips because we're in and out of cars all day. Pocket clips and holster clips are quickly bent on seatbelts and then the knife or holster spends more time waiting on parts than in my pocket.

The reason why automatics are in demand because certain States like Missouri since 2012 have made them legal until 2012 push button knife were completely illegal in the state of Missouri and of courseover the years people have tried all those cheap Italian push button stiletto want to be switchblades and really there all junk but the automatic c-110 is actually a really good knife especially for the price even though the blade is a little brittle they hold an edge very very very well
