I like how Shadow seems to respond better to Sonic’s rivalry then his friendship. Just relax and be happy was met with trauma dumping (essentially an I can’t). Sonic snapping back and giving up led to Shadow feeling comfortable enough to make a joke. It’s a little bit of nuance.

I like the portrayal of shadow loathing regular conversation with sonic and would rather just beat him in a fight, The "do better" lines reminded me of metal sonic's rivalry

I love how Sonic and Shadow are portrayed as opposites In this song. Sonic is positive aspects of life and tryna help Shadow but Shadow on the other hand is reliving his trauma, showing the negative aspects of life. What a interesting dynamic
In a way it feels like Sonic wants shadow to admit that life in the present isn't all bad but at the same time Shadow wants sonic to stop hiding his stress and pain behind a happy face.
Ultimately, it boils down to, "I know you're not really that broken/unaffected, so stop acting like it! You faker!" A great way to expand upon their original Faker thing. XD Longer, it really shows the main thing that pushes them on different paths. Namely, Sonic cannot truly understand the depths of Shadow's trauma. The Blue Blur has never violently lost a loved one, after all. Sure he's probably lost some friends in Eggman's near world domination in Sonic Forces, maybe even in some other adventures, but none of the people really near and dear to his heart. Nor has he really had to question his identity, the solidness of his sense of self being a why he doesn't lose his mind when he turns into a werehog in Sonic Unleashed. As such, Sonic doesn't really get why Shadow's so closed off. Shadow must be playing up some of it, right? After all, Shadow's his rival, so if Sonic can get over all the chaos and violence then surely Shadow can too. Shadow, on the other hand, doesn't see how Sonic could have gone through so much violence and chaos and come out smiling the way he does. He figures Sonic is using smiles and laughs to cover up for his trauma. It's a common enough coping mechanism. Of course, this is spelled out pretty clearly in the song. Still, very well thought out! I love it! ^.^
On the one paw, it's sad that Sonic eventually just said "screw this, have fun with your negativity, Faker". On the other paw, this was so great, and I love how THAT was when Shadow began to relax more.
Song's tops overall, but damn; Foxchase, hearing you essentially sing _as_ Sonic felt alarmingly natural. I'm not sure if you were putting on a voice while recording this, but either way, it _really_ fits the character. I know TH-cam musicians don't want to be pigeonholed into a single role or two, but I'd be deeply interested to hear this a couple more times. Awesome stuff.
IKR! I’d love to hear him sing as Sonic more! He just….sounds like Sonic singing. Which is weird because he barely ever sings, but I can hear him in the guy’s voice.
I can't even explain how stupid my big ol' smile was while watching this. The music, the conversation between sonic & shadow, the lyrics, it was all perfect!

I LOVE BOTH SINGERS HERE. They both sound amazing, but Foxchase is quite possibly the closest I’ve ever heard someone do a voice for Sonic on top of singing for him and sounds perfect. No bells and whistles, I’ve never heard such an accurate singing impression for a character who doesn’t sing. His high notes, man. 👌 The lyrics, character interactions, and music were great too! I can tell everyone had a blast on this and you all did an excellent job!
It honestly feels like Shadow is saying "Faker" as an insult, to say sonic is a knock off of him On the other hand Sonic saying "Faker" is calling Shadow out on putting up a front of being apathetic or unable to feel joy since Sonic has seen that theres more to Shadow than a broody edgelord.
Shadow's part in this is more of a "There is no way you aren't as affected by everything you go through. I am suffering from all that I go through and barely holding on, and you go through terrible things too (like that one line in Sonic Forces about being tortured?), so you have to be faking this positivity. Stop putting up this fake persona of happiness." Basically, Sonic thinks Shadow putting up a front of being so emotionally damaged/hurt/suffering from everything he has gone through that he's barely holding on in life and Shadow thinks Sonic is putting up a front of being completely unaffected from everything he has gone through that he's able to continue smiling and laughing and being so positive in life.
Geez, These two are like siblings. Always solving their own personal problems by fighting and competing with each other. Just like Goku and Vegeta, Ryuko and Satsuki, Yuuji and Megumi and Izuku and Shouto.

i love how this basically retools the term "Faker" into something much more than a reference to sa2. They are actually calling each other out for being fake. shadow calling sonic fake because he doesnt understand how he can just move forward without dwelling in the past. and sonic saying that shadow can be happy but hes just faking the fact that he cant. i love this song!
My interpretation from this is that they were actually trying to help each other cause Shadow tells Sonic “So stop pretending you have it all together” seems like he is trying to have sonic admit his pain. While Sonic saying “So just admit there’s a smile coming through” makes it clear he want Shadow to be happier.

Keep in mind that from Shadow's perspective Maria's death happen in about a year in-universe. So yeah, the poor guy just got his trauma button pressed hard in Generations.
Just wanted to give my own 2 cents on this song, this is probably the best fan song about Sonic and Shadow's dynamic. I especially love how you chose to show that Sonic both genuinely cares about Shadow, but also can get annoyed with Shadow's constant abrasiveness regarding Sonic, and put into words so well why Shadow, even at his most developed, doesn't really get close to Sonic. It's because Sonic is pretty much everything Shadow could have been without his trauma and issues, and though Shadow is the "Ultimate Life-Form," Sonic just straight up is the more stable and collected of the two, because unlike Shadow, he doesn't have any struggle with expressing himself or being happy, and Shadow HATES being reminded of his own self-loathing and inadequacy from the only person in the entire universe who is truly on his level (Silver isn't there, yet). The moment where Sonic is starting to give up on helping Shadow, thinking it's going nowhere, and resigning himself to throw real insults back at Shadow only for the edgy hedgy to prove that Sonic's efforts are indeed breaking him out of his shell, slowly. Despite how much people in the games, in the fandom, and even at Sega, believe Shadow and Sonic have no positive relationship at all (not that Shadow is exactly helping with that), we clearly see that Sonic helps bring out the best in Shadow, even when they're coming to blows, and the same goes for Shadow, who people might not realize gave Sonic some actual character development as well, as before Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic never really faced an opponent so genuinely hurt like Shadow was. Knuckles was being manipulated by Eggman but was still an honourable warrior who's only real bad actions was just harassing Sonic. But Shadow was straight up lashing out at a world that had taken away his reasons for existing, and if Amy didn't get through to Shadow on the ARK, the world may have come to an end. I think Sonic, especially during Black Knight, shows more emotional maturity than he did even than during his fight with Perfect Chaos. In Adventure 1, he understood that some threats can't be ended permanently by being beat, but by changing them for the better. After Shadow though, Sonic learned from his experience that he couldn't just hit them with positive Chaos energy, he needed to be better able to reach out to them on an emotional level. It's why you see Sonic using his words more often after SA2 than you do before. It's a subtle, gradual change, but it's still noticeable. Anyways, fantastic song Thai! Oh, haven't made a song request in a bit, but I'd like to pitch a song for either "The Amazing World of Gumball" or "Samurai Jack." Don't know if you'll actually do them, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Keep up the great quality songs! You deserve to be in movie credits one day!
You know, I think you're right on the money with this one. I myself think Shadow's rivalry with Sonic stems at least partially from feeling inferior since while Shadow was engineered to be what he is, Sonic is pretty much his equal while being natural born. Shadow was created for a purpose only to have the purpose cruelly taken away from him while Sonic is carefree and lives by his own feeling. Even with their powers being equal, Shadow still has to rely on his inhibitor rings and air shoes while Sonic just is. Add to it the fact that while Shadow declared protecting the world to be his new purpose, Sonic saved the world multiple times all on his own. Add to it the Angel Island Mural theory and Shadow might just feel like an inferior prototype for Sonic (kinda like what Biolizard was for Shadow) or... a fake. If you take all of that into account, Shadow being irritated by Sonic and wanting to prove himself superior is unsurprising.
AHHHH PERFECT!!!!! I can't begin to express how perfectly this portrays their differences and disagreements, and oml, the contrasting lines of "anything you can do, I can do better" and "anything I can do, you can do too" is INCREDIBLEEEEE 🤩🤩🤩 not to mention the change at the end to "anything I can do, you can do worse" was, heartbreaking sure, BUT SO PERFECT AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH 💞💞💞💞 The effort it took not to scream when the chorus played has physically exhausted me, I'm not even exaggerating 😭 The voices, the animation, the lyrics, the melody, the story, the humour, I CAN'T EVENNNNNN
I love how the word faker in this case goes deeper then being eachother's clone. Like shadow said "stop pretending youre stable in this life of being hero." 1:34 And sonic is like "stop faking your always sad and you can be happy despite past traumas." 1:14 So it leads us with this sense of vulnerability despite the upbeat tune. Sonic calls Shadow Faker for always hiding his emotions and always hiding in the bad boy mask. While Shadow calls Sonic Faker for always maintaining that joking attitude that borders on debauchery in the most dangerous situations By the end of the song, both of them leave their "masks" with Sonic getting tired of trying to cheer up Shadow and the latter starting to make fun of the hedgehog for it. And I love it

It's only when Sonic gives up and stops, only then Shadow relaxes and allows himself a pun. Y'know, it's kind of like a hedgehog curling into a ball and letting the spikes do the talking when something bothers it and uncurling when it's no longer present.

Fun Fact: Sonic's part of the bridge and the change in lyrics in his part of the chorus is actually a reference to his impatient nature. Cool song. Felt like Shadow overpowered Sonic in air time, which I get because he's edgy and the highlight of Gens x Shadow, but I also felt like Sonic should've talked highlighted his own trauma to put Shadow in his place. Friends getting kidnapped, Tails nearly dying in the Tornado, seeing Central City/Station Square be destroyed by chaos, literally being killed by Mephiles etc. Anything along those lines.

Ngl these singers fit the voices perfectly and dare i say it should replace the current ones. I was smiling from ear to ear throughout this entire thing, you have no idea. These two just WREAK of brotherly energy! Or gay energy. Whichever one works. And at the end where Sonic just gets tired of getting through to Shadow only to show that he did... ah wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. And funny. I swear, Sonic's wisecracking jokes have rubbed off on ALL his friends!
I like how the music reflects both Sonic and Shadow. Sonic being more relaxed and level-headed being more chill when it comes to his rock compared to Shadow's when it's more intense and more heavy metal focus. And I just like how Sonic is trying to help Shadow to not keep all his feelings inside. And also like how they're not using the word faker as being superior than the other but to help not fake Shadow's emotions. Together the song so awesome and YOU COOKED ONCE AGAIN, THAI 🤩🤩🤩!!!!! P.s. Shadow needs therapy.

I like how Shadow seems to respond better to Sonic’s rivalry then his friendship. Just relax and be happy was met with trauma dumping (essentially an I can’t). Sonic snapping back and giving up led to Shadow feeling comfortable enough to make a joke. It’s a little bit of nuance.

In a way it feels like Sonic wants shadow to admit that life in the present isn't all bad but at the same time Shadow wants sonic to stop hiding his stress and pain behind a happy face.
Ultimately, it boils down to, "I know you're not really that broken/unaffected, so stop acting like it! You faker!" A great way to expand upon their original Faker thing. XD
Longer, it really shows the main thing that pushes them on different paths. Namely, Sonic cannot truly understand the depths of Shadow's trauma. The Blue Blur has never violently lost a loved one, after all. Sure he's probably lost some friends in Eggman's near world domination in Sonic Forces, maybe even in some other adventures, but none of the people really near and dear to his heart. Nor has he really had to question his identity, the solidness of his sense of self being a why he doesn't lose his mind when he turns into a werehog in Sonic Unleashed.
As such, Sonic doesn't really get why Shadow's so closed off. Shadow must be playing up some of it, right? After all, Shadow's his rival, so if Sonic can get over all the chaos and violence then surely Shadow can too.
Shadow, on the other hand, doesn't see how Sonic could have gone through so much violence and chaos and come out smiling the way he does. He figures Sonic is using smiles and laughs to cover up for his trauma. It's a common enough coping mechanism.
Of course, this is spelled out pretty clearly in the song. Still, very well thought out! I love it! ^.^

I LOVE BOTH SINGERS HERE. They both sound amazing, but Foxchase is quite possibly the closest I’ve ever heard someone do a voice for Sonic on top of singing for him and sounds perfect. No bells and whistles, I’ve never heard such an accurate singing impression for a character who doesn’t sing. His high notes, man. 👌

It honestly feels like Shadow is saying "Faker" as an insult, to say sonic is a knock off of him
On the other hand Sonic saying "Faker" is calling Shadow out on putting up a front of being apathetic or unable to feel joy since Sonic has seen that theres more to Shadow than a broody edgelord.
Shadow's part in this is more of a "There is no way you aren't as affected by everything you go through. I am suffering from all that I go through and barely holding on, and you go through terrible things too (like that one line in Sonic Forces about being tortured?), so you have to be faking this positivity. Stop putting up this fake persona of happiness."
Basically, Sonic thinks Shadow putting up a front of being so emotionally damaged/hurt/suffering from everything he has gone through that he's barely holding on in life and Shadow thinks Sonic is putting up a front of being completely unaffected from everything he has gone through that he's able to continue smiling and laughing and being so positive in life.

Just wanted to give my own 2 cents on this song, this is probably the best fan song about Sonic and Shadow's dynamic. I especially love how you chose to show that Sonic both genuinely cares about Shadow, but also can get annoyed with Shadow's constant abrasiveness regarding Sonic, and put into words so well why Shadow, even at his most developed, doesn't really get close to Sonic. It's because Sonic is pretty much everything Shadow could have been without his trauma and issues, and though Shadow is the "Ultimate Life-Form," Sonic just straight up is the more stable and collected of the two, because unlike Shadow, he doesn't have any struggle with expressing himself or being happy, and Shadow HATES being reminded of his own self-loathing and inadequacy from the only person in the entire universe who is truly on his level (Silver isn't there, yet). The moment where Sonic is starting to give up on helping Shadow, thinking it's going nowhere, and resigning himself to throw real insults back at Shadow only for the edgy hedgy to prove that Sonic's efforts are indeed breaking him out of his shell, slowly. Despite how much people in the games, in the fandom, and even at Sega, believe Shadow and Sonic have no positive relationship at all (not that Shadow is exactly helping with that), we clearly see that Sonic helps bring out the best in Shadow, even when they're coming to blows, and the same goes for Shadow, who people might not realize gave Sonic some actual character development as well, as before Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic never really faced an opponent so genuinely hurt like Shadow was. Knuckles was being manipulated by Eggman but was still an honourable warrior who's only real bad actions was just harassing Sonic. But Shadow was straight up lashing out at a world that had taken away his reasons for existing, and if Amy didn't get through to Shadow on the ARK, the world may have come to an end. I think Sonic, especially during Black Knight, shows more emotional maturity than he did even than during his fight with Perfect Chaos. In Adventure 1, he understood that some threats can't be ended permanently by being beat, but by changing them for the better. After Shadow though, Sonic learned from his experience that he couldn't just hit them with positive Chaos energy, he needed to be better able to reach out to them on an emotional level. It's why you see Sonic using his words more often after SA2 than you do before. It's a subtle, gradual change, but it's still noticeable.
Anyways, fantastic song Thai! Oh, haven't made a song request in a bit, but I'd like to pitch a song for either "The Amazing World of Gumball" or "Samurai Jack." Don't know if you'll actually do them, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Keep up the great quality songs! You deserve to be in movie credits one day!
You know, I think you're right on the money with this one. I myself think Shadow's rivalry with Sonic stems at least partially from feeling inferior since while Shadow was engineered to be what he is, Sonic is pretty much his equal while being natural born. Shadow was created for a purpose only to have the purpose cruelly taken away from him while Sonic is carefree and lives by his own feeling. Even with their powers being equal, Shadow still has to rely on his inhibitor rings and air shoes while Sonic just is. Add to it the fact that while Shadow declared protecting the world to be his new purpose, Sonic saved the world multiple times all on his own.
Add to it the Angel Island Mural theory and Shadow might just feel like an inferior prototype for Sonic (kinda like what Biolizard was for Shadow) or... a fake.
If you take all of that into account, Shadow being irritated by Sonic and wanting to prove himself superior is unsurprising.

Felt like Shadow overpowered Sonic in air time, which I get because he's edgy and the highlight of Gens x Shadow, but I also felt like Sonic should've talked highlighted his own trauma to put Shadow in his place. Friends getting kidnapped, Tails nearly dying in the Tornado, seeing Central City/Station Square be destroyed by chaos, literally being killed by Mephiles etc. Anything along those lines.

Ngl these singers fit the voices perfectly and dare i say it should replace the current ones. Dont get me wrong i love roger but these singers are peak voice actors and make me wish sonic was a musical. EDIT my friends are convinced that not just abilities make shadow stronger than sonic and that somehow spending your free time just thinking of sad events of the past also contributed to that. Idg how that helps in a fight

I like how the music reflects both Sonic and Shadow. Sonic being more relaxed and level-headed being more chill when it comes to his rock compared to Shadow's when it's more intense and more heavy metal focus. And I just like how Sonic is trying to help Shadow to not keep all his feelings inside. And also like how they're not using the word faker as being superior than the other but to help not fake Shadow's emotions. Together the song so awesome and YOU COOKED ONCE AGAIN, THAI 🤩🤩🤩!!!!!
