- Will Gearbox defy the odds and release a GOOD modernized port of Borderlands 2 ? I have strong doubts.

I don't want a Borderlands 2 remaster. The game was already released on modern platforms and still looks good for such an old game. Take that Dev time and use it to make BL4 better than 2 ever was
And the first thing they should do is come up with an actually good story line, unlike 3.
Agreed
@@TheEternalAnimeYT honestly if I could ask for anything in bl4 I want blood loss weapons. Like have them do very little physical damage but shoot an opponent enough and they’ll hemorrhage causing huge amounts of damage. And replace the chance to cause a status effect with status buildup instead
@@nathanhendrickson790cool idea, but i would rather have more options for melee. Like we could farm Legendary Melee weapons as well.
And be able to pick up anything and use it/throw it.
@@sprinkleddonuts6094 wonderlands had some melee that were really fun but the game itself was wasn't liked much
I feel like the art style of Borderlands 2 is iconic too and really helps the game stand out. Upscaling the engine will kind of take that factor away in a remaster..
true
This. Graphic fidelity gets old, a good art style ages well.
It doesn't need a remake. Just give us a solid Borderlands 4 to revitalize the franchise.
I hate this trend of being stuck in the past and rebuying the same product with a new coat of paint. We need some serious innovation and freshness instead of corporate greed.
New IPs and better than ever sequals lets go!
Bl1 did need the qol though
Pretty much all of the games I’m playing right now and are from earlier than 2020 just because I’m just not really interested in getting all of these half-thrown together microtransactions games
@@Grunch_Morrisonx123 the live service games are just a waste of time
Fixes are more important than a remaster at this point. If they HAVE to bank on a remaster being picked up by fans for it to make their money back, rather than focusing on their next game/IP, they're already in a bad position.
Been playing a ton of BL2 lately. Finally playing Sal for the first time ever. (I know, I know.) For as much as I adore the game, I can't help but sigh at the thought of a few improvements, like sliding and mantling and fast traveling from anywhere. I, too, doubt we'll ever get those changes, but I do feel like Gearbox should do the community a solid and release a patch to fix the known issues.
I enjoy the honesty. I dont even want a remaster i just want a QOL patch like you said (Obviously some bug fixing as well). BL1 remaster needs a patch for the memory leak ASAP its a product representative of the company and should not run like trash.
I'm not a fan of 2K practices when it comes to the remasters I've played. Borderlands 1, Bioshock 1 and 2, all left with bugs which have been reported since release and never addressed.
I'd like a 64 bit update so the game can use more of the pc resources
yeah so we don't need dxvk anymore
Honestly after Commander Lilith DLC broke far more than it fixed, I'm not confident in Gearbox's ability to remaster BL2.
I don't say that to be mean, development is very hard, but if the studio doesn't have the expertises or the time to do something, it's best to not do it. I feel extra this way about patches, as if there's a remaster, we can still play the "classic" BL2. If there's a patch, it'd be a whole thing to be able to rollback if there's another disaster.
good point
It would be a botched job, Borderlands 1 had a remaster, it was outsourced to Blind Squirel games, and they did a piss poor job at it.
The PC version suffers from memory leaks, after about 3 or 4 hours of gameplay, the framerate starts to sink until it reaches single digit values. Depending on your hardware, it's even faster. I can go for a few hours before it starts to get messy, but there's a lot of people on steam forums complaining that the game becomes unplayable in less than 1h
It didn’t start a new playthrough, I think that was the entire point. Same with fast travel, it’s to pad out game time. It’s like driving games that fast travel. They don’t work on landscapes just to zap around. Enjoy the journey
Yeah a patch like suggested would scare me more than anything. I wouldn’t personally want all the changes suggested and what makes modding so great is customization.
Honestly so long as the consoles keep up back compat and we get a big fix patch then there's no need for a remaster/remake. It's already got 4k for those who want that and the Borderlands artstyle will literally never look bad. So long as they keep the availability going we'll be good.
i dont want a remaster. the game feels great and because of when it was made, it has this certain type of feel. it has the early 2010s feel that im so nostalgic for from my childhood.
A remaster would be more of a "lick of gold paint" and nothing else. Not that I would not want it, but yeah. Adding a "community patch" kind of style over it does not really add anything.
I am in the camp that I would absolutely love playing the BL2 missions with BL3 gameplay. I recognize though that it probably won’t happen as it would require significant development and at the end of the day have different DNA than BL2. That being said if it ever came out I would happily pay full price for that experience. At this point however I just really want a new BL title. It has been too long since even Wonderlands at this point!
I think if they were to actually do a patch, they need to be very careful with it. I would just say they need to fix the raid boss health scaling, the commander Lilith OP level blocking, and other complaints like that. Changing the entire balance of the game now could ironically put it at a worse state. I would even say don't put elements from borderlands 3 into the game. People play borderlands 2 for that experience. Changing the flow of the game for so many in a permanent patch would be frustrating for a lot of people.
I would love this, but we all know this wont happen ...they captured lightning in a bottle with 2...the team isnt the same. And like you said the remaster didnt go over well and the one shot was abysmal . While i would LOVE a bl2 remaster they NEED to focus on bl4. With the disastrous flop that was tales 2 and the worrisome borderlands movie they NEED a win desperately.
Would be absolutely happy with 1 last patch that fixes the main issues.
i dont think most people actually think it will happen its more of just a hope
I like the patch idea over the remaster. But I dont think either are going to happen unless they can guarantee positive reviews and revenue which they cant. Thanks K6!
I would love a BL2 remaster, simply for the Ex-Wife (morningstar)
The only reason why I wish for a remaster for Borderlands 2 is for them to change and update the farming system to make it a whole lot similar to how Borderlands 3’s farming system works as farming Handsome Jack and doing the moonshot farming method was really proven to be highly difficult to me personally
The devs at gearbox that cared about bl 1 and bl2 left. The new gearbox could give two shits about those games.
Forget a 2 remaster I want a ground up REMAKE of 1 with the newest design philosophies and graphics. I wanted that after 3 but at this point I want it after 4.
I agree that a patch to give QoL improvements for it would be VERY much welcomed! Make it happen soon Gearbox!
I need remaster for borderlands 3 story...
I am currently replaying B2, and with updated textures on PC this game still is fresh, even 12 yrs after release.
Its an masterpiece we do not deserve. B2 remaster will be a cheap cash grab, nothing new nowadays ( mgs steam collection )
it's a masterpiece... until you have to replay the SAME STORY 3 times per character to reach max level and then max level is horribly unbalanced.
Ik it wasnt that long ago that they remastered 1 but i really wish they i could get borderlands 1 with borderlands 3 movement. Also think it would be cool if they did a borderlands tactics game kinda like wasteland 3
Thing is bl3s engine is a completely new engine it wouldn’t be a remaster it would be a remake. And bl2 fanboys always say “make the game look better but leave everything else alone” it’s impossible to do that. They’d have to touch on literally everything in the game. Including exploits. Let’s face it bore is powerful but I’m willing to bet a months pay that a skill being able to one shot bunker or hyperius is not what the devs intended and that would most likely be gone along with other exploits. It’s not only a game that gearbox doesn’t want to make it’s also a game you don’t want.
A Gearbox-ordained patch would be a sweet compromise for those who do want a remaster, and a really nice improvement for everybody
i dont agree what you said at 0:27. if ever there was a perfect time to redo 2 it would about now. pretty sure it would be one of the most played games ever
This video made me remember how long ago bl3 was released, almost 5 years is crazy
A QOL update would be amazing especially if it implemented crossplay. Also they NEED to fix bl3 on Xbox it’s a bit ridiculous
I’d probably buy a remaster if they changed absolutely nothing but made it so we could skip the cutscenes, especially ones that repeat in the same playthrough: Marcus’ Gunshop for example.
And if they added The Pre Sequel and put in better end game, farmable NPCs and some gave us back cooler guns like the company man and moonscaper then it’d be brilliant.
Simple answer, they dont want a remaster to outsell anything they have done with the franchise recently…
We don't really need a remaster other than a few bugs that need fixing there's nothing wrong with the handsome collection if they were to fix the the bugs then it would be perfect
I want a racing game with borderlands characters similar to old school mario kart or crash bandicoot racing and the best character would either be Steve or Face McShooty and the blue shell item would instead be a Tunguska and a Elpis racing zone
"...What if Borderlands 2 had a new patch?"
*Fallout 4 next gen update flashbacks*
I think a part of them not remastering is because of the vast array of Mods to enhance BL2, reshades and QOL mods basically already remake the game. No need in doing something already done by the community.
Bro I'd like to have the patch add spawn multiplier as a payable dlc.
Don't want a remaster of Borderlands 2 and if they do a lot of people will ignore it because the mods would probably still be better. Also when it comes to patching Borderlands 2 I'm not certain I want that on the PC version because it might break mods. A patch for the game seems like a great idea for the console versions though.
A remaster of a remaster. It was released on ps3 with the handsome jack collection including a dlc remaster for the ps4. I believe as long as I can play it really... I have it on ps5 and was playing it last week. It's a 10/10 game and in my mind it's gold
I know there are a lot of open areas in 2 that could probably be given a bit more life by adding in small things like birds flying across the sky or day/night cycles with moving sun, clouds and stars etc. Don't know about the business side of things but seems like there's at least some creative interest
It was already remastered with Handsome Collection and Ultra HD textures served it as well later
that was basically just a big patch.
Handsome Collection is Borderlands 2 remastered PC got updated instead remastered games are mostly for resolution and frames sometimes sound. It's rare to add more.
If anything, I'd like to maybe see _Official_ Modding support for BL2. let the player choose if they want to play with the "Official" Unofficial Patch or super randomizer without A, needing to download 3rd party software and fiddle with .ini files, and B, excluding Console players. if they manage to make some sort of official modding server available on all platforms, it would probably extend the game's lifespan by another decade.
Honestly, I agree that a major patch would be far more welcome, not to mention easier to integrate, versus a whole remaster- which would no doubt involve a lot more work, ON TOP of overdue balancing and the like.
Frankly, I'd welcome BL4 that starts off as well as end of updates BL3- though I admit, that would probably be too much to hope for, ha.
Speaking of Borderlands 2, does anyone know why a boulder is thrown near Savage Lee’s main spawn in Three Horns?
game already got remastered when the handsome jack collection came out
I mean… not really. It got a big patch with some fixes but even then they left a lot of things broken
I’ve never wanted bl2 remastered, I’ve always thought (like you said) a patch would be the best way to do it. Bl2 is great and the quirks it has are a massive part of the game now, a remaster would undoubtedly remove many of those quirks and make the game a little less interesting imo
i dont think it even needs one tbh
I always enjoy your content like this
Legitimately the only thing I'd want them to add to a bl2 remaster or remake is proper modding support, either that or merging TPS and BL2 so you can play TPS characters in 2 and vice versa and preface that the TPS character is 2 is non-canonical or vice versa.
Not every game needs a remaster
the majority of PS3 games holds up very well. If anything
As long as you could toggle "New patch." On and off, That'd be the best thing to do.
I think the pre sequel deserves a remaster with at least 2 additional dlcs because it’s good. It just needed more time to cook.
There is no money to be made in patching the game. I would love them to do the same for TPS, making more dedicated drops and fixing so many of the things that are broken in both TPS and BL2, but again…..no money to be made, and they can’t charge us to fix their own game we already paid for.
I definitely agree instead of remastering bl2, just release a patch with the help of people who modded the game with game changing features for the best would be way better especially for people who play on console who don't have access to the mods
I’m not interested in a remaster I just want a next gen patch for better res, fps and load times.
What's the point? I want Borderlands 4 and fight Vladoff soldiers
I do too. Just hear people talk about this all the time, so thought I'd say why I don't think it will ever happen.
I have 16gb of RAM (which is not a lot at all for a gaming pc nowadays) and the borderlands 1 remaster memory leaks never felt like it impacted my frames at all. Idk how long you would need to play concurrently for any issues to arrive but I played multiple hour sessions every time no problems.
Same, haven't had any problem of the sort myself
It doesn't need a remaster. It looks similar enough to borderlands 3 already and the gameplay hasnt aged
The Handsome Collection essentially was the remaster.
It was just a patch though.
There were also a tonne of bugs and whatnot that would likely have to get fixed in a proper remaster like b0re etc.
In short, a remaster would ironically just take away from the charm of the OG. More to the point, Gearbox has desperately been trying to move away from Handsome Jack, because they know that was their highpoint and every attempt to recreate that magic has failed MISERABLY.
Focus on making BL4 the best it can be and hopefully fixing all the problems that have somehow persited since 2
I'm with you. Bl1 remaster was closer to a patch than a remaster.
I think they just don't bother to make changes on these games anymore, even those mods have really make it a lot better, I wish for this patch too that everyone could get these life improvements and enjoy, I'll bet it would even bring new players to this game, with max settings these games look good enough, the gameplay is what I respect even more
Borderlands 2 was already so awesome
It really was, but it could be improved still
Honestly I love borderlands 2. I don’t need a remaster. The borderlands art style makes it last a lot longer than other “old” games. Just improve the next game and we good
agreed
Maybe in another decade
Almost everything u said was literally what a friend of mine and I were saying legit this week when replaying both bl2 and bl3.
Game still looks amazing and will always do because timeless art style. See no point in remaster even with QOL features added.
I dont want a remaster, i want a REMAKE with some new patches balances and content and of course some improvements like for example; "setups" to swap quick between builds or mob-boss
BL2 is a game where i enjoy replay and spend more than 4k hours and for me the best
“Patch” “mods” 😭😭
I don't understand why more game studios don't take existing mods and incorporate them into the game. Dyson Sphere Program is a game that has taken tons of mods and added them to the vanilla game, and it has massively improved for those efforts.
I would love to see a patch for Borderlands 2. There's a lot of potential, so many things that can be fixed/upgraded...
Its perfect, they dont have to touch anything
It feels like remasters are always going to be a low payout. If they do end up doing it, I hope they do it right and include a ton of QOL improvements.
I just want a Fallout: New Vegas remaster to coincide with the second season of the show
Maybe not a remaster, but hopefully someday a patch to fix op10 scaling.
Cause gotta look at it like this, a Remaster can take away what was fun about specific characters, Sal with his crit transfer, Infinite Money Shot, PimpHab, and pretty much an unfiltered firerate.
Or Zer0s Bore skill having stack potential, Really wish Krieg was buffed a bit more like his axe throw speed being faster, Silence the Voices 12% actually be a small 12% chance and not ko the user(or be a higher chance to trigger his BA Modification.) we need a game to finally give this titan a proper send off, hopefully 4 to do that since 3 was _scrappy_ at best, due to being not as engaging, Let alone being unable to do fun stuff with King/Queens Call on Fl4k Fade away and the crits causing it to fire infinitely was absolutely gorgeous Before the Fire Rate Nerf.
(ON Jakobs of all types wtf where they thinking. I Never hear complaints that Vladof weapons Fire too fast or do too much damage Pointing at Light show, Monarch, and another similar to the monarch shids fun and busted.)
Literally should let us get jiggy with the choices and weapons that's all about building up our ideal Merc loved having builds and not need to farm for specific damage types. (need money shot back imo too.)
and to add on, wish the hypothetical patch for BL2 would make us not require slag either but make it an option to do more if you lack some damage in spots for a bit (It's good for boosting damage but being needed to kill stuff better sucks)
Yeah, I agree. I don't think a remaster is necessary.
they should make a remake not a remaster
All I want is for them to do is completely remake borderlands 1. Yes it's a good game but replaying it. Really makes see all the problems the game has in i know they can do better now. You know bring it more in line with the rest of the series.
I was just thinking they do something similar to what square enix has been doing with final fantasy 7 "remake".
This guy gets it. A remaster or a remake would be too much of a risk and they would most likely screw it up. Not to mention that a remake requires almost as much work as a brand new game just to recreate something that we already know. It's not just moving assets from one game into the newer one.
*However*, an update on the other hand would be much appreciated. Especially if it introduced level scaling after beating the Warrior on any difficulty and made TVHM and UVHM (especially UVHM) optional, kinda like BL3 did. The game looks and runs great on modern platforms thanks to Handsome Collection too.
Introducing best fan made mods would also be a massive win, but we all know that this rarely happens. The only example I know of is The Binding of Isaac.
Fans: “We want big fixes and character rebalancing!”
Gearbox: [removes crit swapping and Sal offhand glitches]
Fans: (surprised pikachu face)
That would be bad
Playing a frickin slideshow, i like that 😄
This game doesn't need a remaster it is perfect the way it is
I am in general a strong opponent of remasters/rereleases of games, with very rare exceptions. In the case of Borderlands 2... I think there is a problem that might be a bit controversial for the BL2 community, and that is that a lot of people, and I'll include myself among them, found a lot of 2's core mechanics and gameplay to be dated. I'm not saying that it was a bad game, not by any stretch of the imagination; I put several hundred hours into the game and not all of it was farming the same boss over and over again either. But with the releases of TPS, BL3, and even Wonderlands, they showed that for all of the gargantuan flaws the team had with writing, art, company ethics, etc... the devs showed very, very clearly a willingness to experiment and improve upon their gameplay designs, and for the most part those experiments were extremely successful. Arguably the biggest thing that makes a game, well, a game, is how it feels to play it moment to moment, and the devs showed that that's something they thought about extensively, and BL3 is a world and a half away from BL2 in that regard. And most of the community I think sees it that way, even if ultimately BL3 was a less loved game; very few people actually spoke against the gameplay changes. So for a lot of people, no matter how much fresh paint is put on BL2, it's just not going to feel as fun to play as BL3, to the point where I don't think a remaster would make them that much money because while the support and love for BL2 is very vocal, it's just not a big enough chunk of the playerbase. And it may sound cynical, but Gearbox does not give two USDA certified organic [expletives] for the community. It's a media company. What they care about is numbers, and the numbers for BL2 remastered aren't going to add up, nor would it cause so much of an outrage to refuse to make one that they'd lose enough players to care.
Take all this with a grain of salt because I readily admit to personal bias here; I have only played BL2 once since BL3 released and don't really have much desire to do it again for gameplay reasons. And I really dislike Gearbox as a corporation. It's very likely that my own views are colouring any attempts at an objective analysis I could make.
I don't think BL2 needs a remaster anyway. It is fine to let it be dated. Sure, I want more Borderlands content. Which is why I want Borderlands 4 to blow everything that came before it out of the water.
I can’t play the game without mods anymore and it would take years for it to get mod support I’m sure. it couldn’t bother me a bit 😂
what if the real BL2 Remaster was the friends we made along the way?
I have never had an issue with bl1 remaster
Pc players have a memory leak problem and the ps4 version is riddled with bugs and glitches that weren't present on the ps3 version not sure about the Xbox version
I think BL2 looks and runs fine as is. I'd rather they keep their sights focused on BL4.
hahaha mod as a patch thats a good one, a remaster is more probable with gearbox acquisition by 2k, Bl4 has probabilities of have tons of microtransactions, 2k is known for pushing that on its games.
Couple points on this as someone who does really love and enjoy me some Borderlands.
The BL1 remaster is a bad comparison because the additions were minimal. The QoL items were needed and nice add ons, but all in all the game was not much different.
If BL2 was ever going down this road I don't want some form of a remaster. I want a remake, except done right. Remakes are not always the best option(still kind of meh about the FF7 remake, haven't played Rebirth yet), but if they do it in the vein of RE2 and 4 remakes then I am down.
Ultimately what you have to prepare for is if they ever do it, that it isn't up to par and it breaks and "fixes" some of the stuff from the second one. They would have to rework the classes a bit(Sal is obviously a bit OP), probably rework the guns, drops and loot in general etc. I will say it automatically gets a 5/10 rating simply if they add pearlescents and don't leave them out again. Keep OP levels where they are. I would really like to see it, but only if it does the game justice. Not sure it would, so sometimes best to let sleeping dogs lie.
Oh, and get rid of slag. For the love of god I hate that mechanic.
They just released a Boarderlands bundle not sure if any of the games have been remastered though. The bundle has every Boarderlands game in it with all of its equivalent DLC's.
Nope, Pandoras Box is not a remaster
@@captainspaulding5963 I didn't think so. It would have been a perfect time to do all of them remastered. Yet we all have to remember they just went through being bought.
They should release a remaster for the game, but the only difference is Lilith has a slightly longer neck.
I recently did a play through on a full modern setup and it was excellent. Game looked great, and played smoother than butter! I’d honestly rather see a Pre-Sequel remaster so it can be updated to 64 bits and potentially get a second/third dlc.
Borderlands 2 doesn't need one.
Agreed. Would love a final Patch
@@Ki11ersix I really hope K6 because it definitely needs that.
Why didn't 2k do the same thing that Bethesda did with Skyrim? They even changed it to 64 bit
As long as we have the ability to play ALL the games on modern platforms, I don't wanna see any remasters. The only way I would want to see something like a remaster/remake is when the main series is done. When we see no returning characters other for the odd cameo and unavoidable moments (like Rhys because of Atlas or any other large factions that get added between now and the end of the main series). That is when I personally (and I know the chances of this is like looking for a needle in a haystack in the dark with a blind fold with no arms on the wrong farm) would be a single mega game of the mainline entire series where you can play a single character through all the games with an expanding skilltree and 4th wall breaks and just generally taking everything they learnt throughout the years making the series and just having something that is unadulterated Borderlands from beginning to end.
Sorry for the long comment, run on sentences, overuse of brackets and lack of TLDR (Summarising thing just ain't in my nature).
I literally just replayed it. In no way does it require a remaster. Certainly not a sequel...
BL2 sotry written with BL3 gamplay would be a perfect game
