The RD-300 is excellent for modification and also sounds extremely good itself. In addition, it offers enough storage space for small desktop synthesizers such as e.g. the JX-08. 80's ❤️
And my Raspberry Pi B+ is serving as a controller for my 3D printer. lol but I have a Yamaha MODX+ and Arturia V Collection on the PC. Only thing I want is a subtractive synth with knobs for everything.
Hey Peter, nice sounds! Question: you control miniDexed from your keyboard? If so, how do you get the information on the display? Or did you mod your controller keyboard with an buildin RPi, encoder and LCD?
Hello Gert, yes, I installed the miniDexed in the Raspberry Pi including the display and encoder in my old digital piano. In the second part of the video there are a few pictures of the construction: th-cam.com/video/X3bgIFumZoQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZL6MHyi7XGP6DnwL&t=60
I did something similar, built mine into a CME-UF70 keyboard controller. I can't play as well as you to demo it though. I also brought the SD card to the rear so I can carry out updates etc.
Sorry, but no, The Roland RD-300 has been my command center for over a year now and I don't want to be without it anymore. There aren't many keyboards that have this much space for other gear. The keyboard is also quiet, which my wife really appreciates. The only disadvantage is that there are no modulation sources (modulation wheel, pitch bend, aftertouch) If you live near me, I could help you build a comparable instrument.
Problems with this video: 1. The initial long silence tricked me into turning up the volume, then the sudden full amplitude first notes were shockingly loud . 2. The image of the small display is not readable on my full HD portable screen and probably won't be on my lower resolution bigger screens . Anything important to a video needs to be zoomed to a larger portion of the screen and be view tested at old TV resolutions like 480i .
Hey John, thanks for your feedback. I think it got better in the following videos. The display is actually much too small and can hardly be read in normal play.
i feel your love for these sounds and i love them too!
Thank you, you hit the nail on the head. Sound design is my greatest passion. But what you do doesn't work without passion.
What awesome technology and great playing!
Also that RD300 is one of the greatest sleek looking boards I've ever seen!

Just brilliant.

How were you able to build it inside of an existing keyboard? I always thought it might be fun to do this with a DX21 since they're visually similar.
@@Marshal6000 The keyboard must have enough space in the case and a bit of craftsmanship and courage, then it will work.
Wahnsinn!

@@peterberghoff Nice mod! I'm going to watch this second video for sure.
Thanks for answering.
Any chance of a TH-cam video of the build etc?
Hi John, a short video with some detailed photos is a good idea. I'll link it to you here but it will take a few more days.
For build check this:

Nice! All 8 TG unison?
Only a few performances use all 8 TG's. The ones shown here use between 2 and 8 TGs.
