You are right , I owned a 420i with the automatic gearbox , heated seats and the premium sound system . Unfortunatelly I crashed it and it was written off (not my fault) , tried the newest Mercedes A250 and after 3 months of owning the merc I decided that I need a BMW back so I got a very nice manual M240i . Great review
I pick up a 420i in the morning, I can't wait after seeing this video. Black wheels, blue m sport calipers, looks immense...... How did you find it for fuel economy? My only fear is that I should have gone for the 420d like this one.
These are sooooooo much better looking than the new versions with the huge grill. Not only is the grill ugly but there are many other design problems as well. The dashboard is pointed out as much more modern on the new version, but in my opinion more modern is not better, as the screens are a pain to use. Plus they grease up after just one trip, useless. In terms of engine I think the 430 petrol is the best for normal use, enough power but not as thirsty as the 6 cylinder.
Im using 320d 2017 as my daily car. That car well balace between comfort, fuel efficient, fun to drive and practicality. My fuel consumption on computer are 16.1 km/. That mostly im using inside city with stupid way to drive. Real Fuel consumptiom 23 km/l on highway test it only 2 times comfort mode, and not try to be economical driver.
after watching your video at least 5 times and again, i went for a 420d gc B47 RW 2015 90k dark grey/ black ms bodykit/creme interior i absolutely love it didnt expect so much from it, my first auto i used find them boring but in this the gearbox its unreal, really wanted the 430d but insurance is insane where i live, took a gamble on 65 plate really well looked after but hasnt had the gearbox service yet. i say its slightly snug compared to a4 saloon but the experience is what you pay for
As an American watching your videos - it always catches me off guard seeing no reverse camera on your cars. That feature was federally mandated over here a while back
Plenty of cars here have reversing camera's.....but they are not considered as an essential. Rear parking sensors are more useful IMO, the camera is a nice to have. My Audi has a camera and my last Merc had one too.
It is outstanding car in all aspects better than competition, personally I like 430i and 440i but 420d and 430d are the most popular😊you are doing great job and videos!!!!
I wish there were more cars like these made but from japanese makes. Audi doesnt make Quattro A5s and A7s with manual, BMW did make manual versions of these. There should be whole genre of low seating cars that feel exactly like coupes to drive but are a tiny bit more practical having liftback or even wagon bodystyles. But aside of 4 series, only others i can think of are, CLA/CLS Mercedes cars, Kia Stinger/Genesis GV70 and Arteon, both liftback and shooting brake kinds. Other brands dont really seem to try at all to get into this. It germans and Kia and noone else :/
@@MrKiingpin I recently find myself looking at Lexus IS200/300 Sportcross. Seems like the closest they ever got to the idea. Though its more in line with e46 3 series sedan and touring sizewise. Its also rear wheel drive. They stopped making it after 2 generation though. I want to give tjat car a try since i preffer older cars overall.
Thanks for the vid. I think a lot of people are moving away from diesel so knowing what the 420i is like maybe even more useful, some even have xDrive however the 20i with AWD looks slow on paper but is it still _okay_ ?
Would recommend. Had mine 18 months now, done over 40K miles and still love it. Mine is specced out with all the options except HUD though and it came with a stage 1 tune, noticeable quicker and more powerful than a stock 435d
Hi. I’m currently after a 4 series, but unsure which model to go for; the 420d or 430d. There’s no difference in insurance for me. I’m wondering if I need a 430d or if a 420d will suffice. I do a lot of miles for work, but they’re all b-roads, some dual carriageways. Occasionally do motorway journeys. I’d appreciate any advice
I have a 420d gran coupe and I can hear that very same wind noise drivers front, I can hear it in your video and it’s driving me crazy! I’ve changed the tyres twice and had new bearings and track rods! Does anyone else hear this on their cars? I’ve had it in 5 garages!

We are better drivers on this side of the world mostly manual cars and like you said no one has reverse cameras as standard

A Lexus of this style would be great

Try the 435d to get best of both worlds and see the diference,i am looking forward to get one till new year
You read my mind, that is the one i would go for.
great review as always ❤
Im gonna buy one after my holiday ... a 420i version ....cant wait
we have a 420i for sale if you are interested?
Any standout issues with a 2017 auto, 112k miles. thinking of purchasing. Any insights would be appreciated.

It's ok, but it's quite a bit slower. Check out our review of one here th-cam.com/video/avyFTLSDIX0/w-d-xo.html
Very cool video, what about the 225d? I can't seem to find any reviews on the internet.
They're very rare so i've never driven one unfortunately.
5:50 when that guy passed if it was me sport+ and pedal to the metal it was gonna drive me insane
Hi nice review thinking of either this or a5 sportsback which do prefer please?
No question the bmw is miles better audi sadly is just a vw in fancy clothing the parts are the same as a passat
What millage was this on? Im looking at a 2017 420d with 72k on it and im worried about the auto box. Very new to bmw
auto box is very reliable in the 420d. It uses the zf8 speed
I´ve a 2018 420d with manual box. It averages 6,3l/100k in the Confort setting, around 9l in Sport

Damn I hate the noise on the diesel though it sounds like a truck with drone noise. Anyway around this ?
U embrace it
How does this or the 420i gc feel on a country road? Would you recommend a stage 1 for a bit more out of these cars? Amazing review by the way.
thanks! The 420i gc is a bit sluggish in its standard form so i’d definitely recommend a remap as it means you can have a lot more fun.

The 420d would suffice but i'd go for the 430d if insurance is the same. You'll get similar fuel economy and a lot more power.
@@ParagonCarsLondon Thanks for your response. Are you planning to review an F36 430d at all? I'd like to see real life MPG figures
@@jh4l It's on our list so hopefully i can review one soon.
