      I don't exactly recommend my videos as "how to" since I'm not a professional. I can only show what and how I did and recommend people to trust their common sense while undertaking such projects themselves. Thanks for watching!

    Great job. I usualy just fix what's broken, but this approach makes sense too. It obviously needs a new alignment job now btw.
    You don't need that jig for remiving the inner race. Just cut it almost apart with a cutting disc, then chisel until it pops.

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've done the chisel trick. Just tried something different this time. ;)

    Nice! Tip. There are a lot easier way to get the inner race off the hub. Just cut in to it with an angle grinder, not too much, and just hit it with a chisel in the cut that you made, the bearing race will split in that place, and you will be able to take it off almost by hand.
    I have been doing this a lot.

    • @mihkus
      @mihkus 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheRealDeal Would've done the same.. Ive replaced many bearings and havent even tought about getting one of those fancy pullers

    • @DonnDIY

      If this car was driven more these rotors wouldn't go that bad. Unfortunately it isn't used that often and usually the brakes go bad from the sitting.

    Very good job! What is left? Is that steering rack noise on the ruff road at the end or something else?

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! The steering rack is okay but the cross joint has to be replaced on the steering column (has a little slack in there). Other noises may occur from the old interior rattling around.

    definitivamente eres muy bueno como imitador 😎😎😎😎😎

  • @rolfnilsen6385
    @rolfnilsen6385 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Boots on the CV joints looked ready for replacement as well. The outer boot on the left side looked to not be secured to the CV house which is really bad for the joint.
    And some lineseed oil under the poor Partner would help with the rust.
    You really got to use your press with this job :-) I usually cut the inner races on axles with an angle grinder but your way was better! A bit leery about the trick with the ratchet strap on the spring though :D
    how did you go about aligning the steering? String? I did not see that you made any notes or marks on the old tie rods?

    • @Clem_Kadidlehopper
      @Clem_Kadidlehopper 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rolf Nilsen I came to say the same about the c.v. axle. If you do t repair that boot and get grease in the joint you will start hearing a click when you turn and that is as cv joint failure. As a 30 year mechanic I can say I have replaced very few cv axles that didn't have damaged boots. That is the #1 cauyse of cv joint failure is lack of grease. Fix that boot or you will be tearing the spindle back off again soon.

      Yup, every year when the car has passed a certain age we have these checks. Although all of the parts looked really worn some of the stabilizer rods etc weren't so bad but for the video's sake I wanted to put all the new parts in. Worked out fine in my opinion. :)

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I counted the the rotations of the tie-rod ends. It needs alignment after the axle with the broken boot is replaced. It's pointless to do it prior to changing the axle. ;)

  • @Volvoalgot
    @Volvoalgot 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    A tip! Torque the hub nut with a torque wrench, with the torque recommended for that car, or else that bearing will not survive long..trust me, have seen and changed lots of bearings that has fail because of that, most Peugeot, citroen, and ford

    • @sal8743
      @sal8743 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Volvoalgot he completely blocked the bearing, no one km with them. The correct procedure: tight the nut, loose it again, tight it strongly by hands and install the guard cap and the pin.

    • @lol123321123321
      @lol123321123321 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      L Lister that's for tapered roller bearings. Not for hub style bearings. Hub bearings need a ton of torque for preload, say 175 lb/ft. Where a tapered roller bearing only needs let's say 15 in/lbs, basically hand tight. Two different completely different bearing setups.

    It's simpler to just cut diagonally across the race, to weaken it, then use a cold chisel to split the race. The race is brittle and will break easily once you cut it with an abrasive wheel. Just be careful not to cut too deep.

    You should also refurbish the brake calipers and all other suspension parts and replace the entire coilovers to completely rebuild it

      I will wait until the coilovers are completely dead and calipers busted (they're on their way of being busted anyway) and then buy new ones. Right now they'll have to do.

    Kilka poważnych błędów- nie wymienił sprężyn, brak klucza dynamometrycznego jak na mechanika przystało, i bardzo poważny-chyba że tego już nie pokazał..brak odpowietrzenia hamulcy.
