Every time you tell me to find what inspires me, to approach my art from my authenticity, there is a ripple effect a bit like the rings from a pebble skipped across a pond. It is for that specific reason I continue to be grateful your message is consistent because while the ripples fade and even out, with each reminder I've already moved closer to where I need to be. I'm so looking forward to the free session and this time around eager to enrol in the full course - I'm finally ready. Thank you Louise for being the voice of reason, and an ongoing inspiration.♥
Gosh Louise, you are such a great communicator (which in itself is an art form)! Thank you for sharing your experience, your thoughts, your gifting, with us!
I’m so, so glad I found this TH-cam channel. Louise, you are a veritable fountain of wisdom. I’ve been floundering around straddling the worlds of artistic abstraction and realism, not knowing quite what to do. Louise has inspired me to find my own unique voice instead of being a poor imitation of other painters. In the end, no one can ever paint like someone else because no two people have the same physical body, the same nervous system, the same experiences, the same views of the world, the same interest in themes, and on and on…Finding your own voice is hard work and it takes a lot of practice and experimentation, but it’s really the only authentic way. Being authentic will help you make better art, which you will then be able to sell to people of your tribe. 😊
"I never saw a Purple Cow, I never hope to see one; But I can tell you, anyhow, I'd rather see than be one." I grew up with this poem... Now I'll have to rethink it! 😂 💜
This summer I took a break to explore, play, and discover for myself, without having the need to record for my channel. I wanted this time just for me. I have discovered so much of what isn’t me and what is. I have been exhausted from always pushing and thinking “big.” I really appreciate what you discuss in your article about acceptance. I know what I want to paint so I just need to trust myself. I’ve signed up for the course. Can’t wait and thank you!😊
Love this! Recently I showed a few paintings in the “art tent” at our town’s annual waterfront festival. My step grandson and his wife walked through the tent on one of the days. She told me that, in the midst of dozens of paintings, she turned to him and said, “See that diptych over there? That’s Heather’s work.” And she was right. Best thing she could possibly have said to me! I was thrilled!
Thanks for this, Louise! I’m a 3d artist by profession but want to explore other mediums for fun and as a means to make art that isn’t on the computer! I spent this year testing different mediums and I’ve narrowed it to three that excite me. Next year will be trimming them down further and finding what I want to make with them - that’s the hard part! Your section about making with your authentic voice was so useful. I find I tend to make what is expected, not what I really want.. but I don’t fully know what that is yet!
I could not agree more Louise! I see so many artists jump into selling their work before they've really established their own unique/authentic voice. Its so much easier to sell work when you're coming from that deeply honest place. Not to mention, by the time you've put in the hours to get there you feel so good about the work you're making that its impossible for others not to catch your enthusiasm.
I so appreciate your honesty! I have an opportunity to display my art in a vintage shop and I will start on September 1 of this year. I’m really excited and your message is just what I needed to hear. Thank you for all your encouragement! 🙏🕊️
You couldn’t have picked a better topic today!! Thank you so much for your guidance!! You have a very nurturing soul. I really feel so much better about a choice in subject matter I made the other day. You reinforced it. 😊 I am new to You Tube and can’t figure out how to sign up for your free class.
Louise, you have no idea what a deep effect this video has had on me. With strong Gemini in my natal chart, I have been either a copier, or next thing to one, and constantly looking for the one thing that will bring me success. And of course the one thing has been with me all along, original and mine, something long loved by so many around me, and all I've done is discount it as something that comes a bit easy. Now I will pursue that with conviction, and follow it wherever it wants to go artistically. Thank you! You've given me back my artist's life!
I've been watching your videos for about 4 years (and listening to the podcast since day one). You were the first teacher who helped me move forward in my work after a major artist block that developed from art school. I clicked on this video because I needed a reminder today and you did not disappoint! Your message gets stronger and stronger and some of us really do appreciate the repetition of your insight. Thank you ❤
Thank you Louise for the clarion call to trust oneself! I've signed up the free course, thank you again for providing the experience. Also love love your bluepainting in the background 🌹
“Copying“ is how I have taught myself. I taught myself the techniques and tried all the different styles of watercolor and acrylic that I thought appealed to me. But what I was REALLY teaching myself is where my voice was. What did I like, was may be pretty good at, but didn’t LOOOOVE? What was a horrible at until I changed all the colors? Where was I insecure as an artist so that I could work on overcoming that insecurity? This is what I learned as I copied other people. I recommend buying small sketchbooks and filling the pages with good bad and ugly. Then go back and look at them. In order. See your progress and give yourself a huge pat on the back. Louise is absolutely right, until you do what resonates in your soul, it won’t resonate with someone else’s..
I love your honesty and you are so relatable and authentic!. I am signed up for your class, really looking forward to it! thanks so much for all the advice you give...🥰
Lovely video as usual! Thank you for sharing this! Also, I can see an alien like face in the paint behind you and it was really disturbing 😂 I had to look away to stay focused! Btw, I would never tune you out because I can feel your genuine desire to help! 🙏🧡
Nathalie, I see your alien, raise you with a lion's visage, ha ha. Louise, you hit home, as usual. I'm kinda proud to say my art looks like no one else's. It is definitely mine, though I've learned a TON from other artist's including you. That said, it's very hard to know if it's desirable to other people, and to decide on what level ($) to start with. No question here, I realize there's no hard answer. It's just scary to my hermit-like existence, ha ha!
I am working on finding my own voice. My husband has found his. He is a woodworker gone artist. His pieces are unique and fabulous. Because he works with wood, it is harder to find shows to be in, as many don't have wood as a category. Would you happen to have any suggestions?

I HAVE a unique style... my problem is, I can't find people to buy my unique paintings. I have sold paintings, but not very many.
You sell more art by first making more art..
