I like how the Pocketbook looks but I've owned 2 of them so far (Pocketbook Pro 902 and Pocketbook Inkpad 3) and both get this weird gummy/sticky texture to the soft-touch finish they use after 2 or so years. It results in a horrible feel to the unit that can't really be fixed. Both devices have been in full cover, book-style cases since day one and kept away from all food and liquids. I'm looking that uses a hard plastic to replace my Inkpad 3 with but I don't need a color screen.
Kobo app also works on my phone, but is completely useless. It only syncs books bought through Kobo, so majority of my books aren't synced at all. I had the same problem with PocketBook app. Problem was numbers in password. Once I eliminated those it started working, until then it crashed every time.
I have the Pocketbook Era Color and the BW Libra 2, along with the Kobo Sage, Boox Palma, and Kindle PW, and I love both. However, I wouldn’t buy another Libra just for the color feature. I appreciate the Pocketbook for its speaker/TTS function, the app that syncs my reading position across devices, and the device's build quality. As I don't use it for reading comics, I can't comment on that aspect. The operating system took some getting used to since it's different from Kindle, Kobo, and Boox. I really enjoy seeing the covers in color as that has always been a part of my book buying process and helps me enjoy the artwork on my books.
I just wish it were more accessible. I have dyslexia & speech-to-text & page reader features are tools I rely on that the Kobo doesn’t have & doesn’t talk about.
@@BoxOfShockolatesI’m also dyslexic and find that disappointing about Kobo, too. Does Pocketbook have more accessibility features? I might get one, if so!
I like how colors look on Era more, to be honest. It seems like on Kobo, the shades are darker (yes, the black looks deeper, not as gray, but the rest of the palettes look less bright as well). However, the level of brightness on Era is really disappointing, especially for those who read a lot and don't want to recharge the device too often because it can't be comfortably use without a high level of brightness. Anyway, thank you for the review👍
I'm waiting for somebody who compares the Kobo libra color with the Boox tab mini C. This size form factor is so comfortable and portable for me, ideal for comic reading. But I wanna know which one of those looks better.
I’ve the kobo libra colour and just simply enjoy reading graphic novel and coloured manga on it. Though wishes the screen is just slightly bigger to full elimination need of zooming in some very tiny text on manga
The warm light on Pocketbook is much nicer. Just focus on the text when the warm light is on, it's so much easier to read and that is the single most important thing on ereaders, isn't it? And when the warm light is off, Libra still looks orange, while Era looks white.
its interesting because i think the pocketbook colors look better to me. pretty cool how these ereaders are rolling out color tho. black & white only has kept me from buying one because i want to see my colorful book covers
you forgot kobo is also 100% hackable, nothing is blocked and if you know some coding and linux, you can customize and install so much stuff. kobo wins in every single way and since always
@@goodereader it is my understanding that kobo doesn’t care about what users do with the device in that sense ? So I don’t think it’s illegal (otherwise they would lock the OS like Amazon) although it is true that it’s for advanced users so no point in advertising it much anyway
Is it just me, or does Kobo have a kinda yellowish frontlight, even with Natural light turned all the way down? And it's even more noticable on the white bezel Libras. On the other hand on Pocketbook you can make screen more "white" with its cooler frontlight?
Thanks for that nice and detailed review . I own an ink pad 4 and kobo h2o , and the battery is a way better in the kobo ( weeks without recharge ) the ink pad battery is very bad , I have to recharge every 2 days after 8 month of intense use . If you have a compare I d like to know how is the battery on both device . Thanks
I have pocketbook era and kobo libra colour. I prefer pocketbook just because it can transfer book wirelessly via email. Kobo I have to use google drive which sometimes I find it difficult because sometimes some file doesn’t appear in the folder
This is utterly weird. I've never had any issues transferring files wirelessly with my Kobo Libra Colour when I'm using either google drive or send.djazz
You're flat out wrong about the pocketbooks color, you just have to go into the settings themselves vs being a drop down. It's shown in several reviews!
Can anyone suggest to me which is better between these two ? My priority is to sort books by the series. Especially sideload book. Can these two can sort books by series ? 🙏🙏🙏
You did color comaparation with 0 Light, very particular situation (under sun for example). You would be comparason also with a middle backlight, maybe things changes .... this would be the commoon use
the color looks better in kobo but pocketbook is 100% way better as the overall screen light in black and white because it looks more a book realistic than the kobo screen which is more like a mobile phone screen
When I turn my book off, there is a label that says sleeping and gives me the stats of the battery life can I remove that label from the front screen so that I can see the full book cover in the resting mode
Flush screens are a plague in ereaders, most products are going with that crap flush screens with no contrast and it's becoming more difficult to find a good product. Kobo is maybe the only one left with a decent contrast sunken screen.
These e inks are still too dark without backlight which is why you would want an e ink, to eliminate any artificial lighting. Wonder why technology still hasn’t evolved for us to have the real pen on paper feeling.
Don't completely agree with you. In a well-lit room I can use my eReader, but I find reading much more comfortable using 20-30% front light, in my case. I did not always feel that way.
Era makes NO SENSE on paper. RGB only works for ACTIVELY LIT pixels. CMYK works for PASSIVE (REFLECTIVE) screens. Notice how poor the yellow/orange colors are horribly muted on the right. Add the other R/D benefits of the Kobo and you have a huge winner.
Great review! Now, 'right to repair' is a legal matter* (and it will vary from country to country). Not a matter of possibility on each device. I've noticed you've used the term in a 'displaced' way in several videos. *en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_to_repair

Kobo's is the better product for sure. Better looking screen and it's repairable
Repairability needs to become a main concern of any product review. We can't afford building or buying sleek-looking e-waste anymore.
Till they stop forcing accounts on me I'm going with pocketbooks

Omg. I'm also looking forward to this review. It’s very important for me to compare how annotations with a stylus look in a book.
I Mean... One is twice the price of the other .. wouldnt really be a fair comparison. Boox does a lot more than just being an e-reader/note taker.
Boox doesn't have water resistant rating.
No for me.
