I've had a broken Canonet sitting on my shelf for months that my friend found in a bargain bin in Japan and brought back for me. I stumbled across this video and I now have a fully functioning Canonet loaded with film ready to shoot again! Thanks for the help!
@@tobroken1965 I have one of these canonet19 cameras and would like to know when the came out. Also are the models 25 and 17 the same or bigger or smaller? Thank you
Thank you so much. I found one at a thrift store and ran three tools three it and got nothing. I noticed the shutter was hardly opening. I used your video and easily got the front element off, cleaned the lens and after a few tries it’s working. I’ll run some film through it tomorrow and see if it works or if there’s any other issues. Thank you
That sounds like a mystery. I'm not sure i still have mine so I cant look. This is where a dud roll of film is handy, put it in, and advance the film with the film door open and watch what happens. I cant remember but I dont think there is anything that will stop the shutter and film advance with the door open. Sooner or later you will see where the problem lies.
On my demi ee I just sprayed some ipa from the back and then put it in bulb mode then cleaned the shutter also, I used que tips for further cleaning didn't take nothing off, worked well
@@bobbyhosea7009 hi mate I don't do videos sorry, but all I did was opened the back hacth then just sprayed the shutter section with IPA and shook the hell out of it to disperse the fluid, then after I was cleaning the inner glass on bulb mode holding the shutter button 😆. By the way that was a educational video, if you like I can send you video by messanger just add me👍
I only have the one Canonete, so I can only assume they are similar. However I have used the same method on other leaf shutter cameras with very good results. If possible get a hold of a cheap broken junker and experiment on that first. Good luck.
i opened my ql17 with madehand tools. shutter stuck and blade diaphragm cleaned, good luck www.flickr.com/photos/149195724@N02/albums/72157677526205825

Got the shutter working but the film binds. By the time I get to 5 or 10 shots it won’t wind. So disappointed

Dude thank you I was looking for exactly this explanation, I'll let you know how I get along with my Canonet.
+Alex Nairne Glad I could help, good luck, I look forward to hearing about your results.
Brilliant video mate just what I needed Thanks
Thanks for this. I might now be brave enough to attempt this myself.
I too, just got this very camera, with slow shutter, so this will help...... Thank you!
Which way are you screwing/unscrewing particular threads? That black ring is hard to tell going backwards

Can you do a video to show how you did this

Thank you very much! What is the name of the spanner tool?
Mine is a Neewer Spanner, I found it on Ebay for $11
my ql17 has the same problem, does it work for all canonet rangefinders?

Have you considered using carburetor cleaner or brakleen?
It wouldn't be my first choice, pretty harsh stuff. That would be more of a last resort for me.
It's what happens with amateur level service. Things end up getting worse.
