I just started watercolor a few nights ago and while painting I was smiling and talking to my wife saying “you know what I love about painting?.. I get to do *random brush stroke* whatever *and another* I want *big line across* and I can’t mess up because the point is that I’m having fun”. And you just expressed that in this video. Thanks for the encouragement! Loved the painting, I am inspired to go sit by a lake and paint it real time now. God bless and have a great day!
Thanks for another thoughtful and insightful video, Liron. The painting itself was gorgeous (of course) but you also gave us all many things to consider during your excellent commentary. As many others have already said, you have a worldwide community of people who are feeling for you in these hard times and I'll join with them in again hoping that you and your family manage to stay safe. Kind regards, Brian.
Thank you so much Brian 🙏😊 I really appreciate the kind words. And very happy the commentary may provide some insights. I'm so lucky to be able to paint and teach, because honestly it's the only things I'm really capable of doing right now ♥
@@LironYan hi again Liron...are you close to the war zone in Israel and Pakistan? If so....I wish you and yours only the best...and that this will be over very soon...and that you stay safe...Let us know how you are? Thanks Janis
Stay safe dear friend. I hope you can loose yourself in painting. In times of turmoil I have lost myself in many art endeavors and the garden...including digging 5' deep koi ponds. Creating has been my therapy..
Dug with pick and shovel...you would be surprised how much angst can be relieved....,maybe painting a la Jackson Pollack would have worked too if I didn't have a 2 acre back yard ?
@@marjoriejohnson6535are you who made this beautiful palette for him? i am curious about the slim pans setup is this something you make and sell by chance?
@katriannamaria yes, am now disabled but still hoping that someday I will be able to sit up longer longer than to eat..they are mini ice cube trays that are silicone. I cut out as many dividers as I want . Depending on what I was going to be painting and how many colors I wanted..sometimes by brand or the subject. The set I sent to him were the small set I put together to drive ( an 18-20 hour) to Savannah ( a city I always had wanted to paint) but wound up in THE ICE for 8 days when I was half way there. Fortunately my daughter had closed her club to go with me..that was the end of my serious painting. I sent him a brand I knew he hadn't tried ,as I began watching from the beginning . If I have enough strength I want to send him Hobein( not one of my favorite brands) as I still have the end of a smaller set.
I am so happy to know you, your wife, and puppy dog are safe. My friends and I kept checking with each other to see if there was a new video from you. My heart is happy to know you are okay.
Thinking of you and your family daily..The advice you give in this demo is precious and I needed to hear it. The painting itself really lovely. Learning so much from you. Thank you Liron 😊
Haha thank you! Indeed, it's a custom made palette sent to me by a dear subscriber ^_^ The colors in it are actually Mission Gold, and can be seen here (last photo): imgur.com/a/5MYqxee
1) your lessons on shapes and values definitely help improve the painting 2) if I feel tight, stress, rushed, timid or insecure I know I’m in wrong town! 3) i totally agree about intuition, and when you paint that way you feel happy 4) quality paper is huge! 5) love this lesson, going to watch it again with my sick bedridden mother and paint together with her, you are bringing light to people💕💕💕💕💕💕
First, thank you for being here. I was just there! You have captured the atmosphere and the light so beautifully! Love the way you treated the boats, I hope I can approach them with the same freedom and not get too fussy.
As a beginner, Id say all the advice you've given on washes and values is solid. However, Im beginning to notice watercolor is about tricking your own eyes in a constructive way. When everything in the painting is utilizing the same tricks, with correct values, others will see it too (though they may know nothing about watercolors). This is definitely one of my favorite episodes. This conversation really motivates looseness.
Very well explained and done! It is so true about wc advice that one just has to dig in to the painting and go from there. We all have less favorite paintings or just straight up mistakes even in the process because it’s a part of learning. I trashed a painting last night but it was fun!😂Thank you Liron. May you and your family stay well.
Haha it's getting more challenging with time for some reason. So I end up filming & narrating separately more often these days. Thank you for watching 🙏♥
Happy to see my old field palette being put to good use. What do you think of the mission gold single pigment colors. From my botanticals to your landscape they seem versatile.
Yes! This is a wonderful palette sent to me by my viewer Marjorie 🙏🏼🙏🏼 It’s custom filled with Mission Gold paints. You can see the exact setup here: imgur.com/a/n0zWTvd My favorite paint here is Verditner Blue. It’s an awesome mix between Cobalt and Permanent White. Very useful
@@LironYanoh wow what an awesome viewer! i love the size of it and the slim pan setup that holds so many! I wonder how she does them would be such amazing pan to make available for sale!!
Taping it usually works (: And then you can wait a while after every wash (as it will gradually flatten while drying). And if it stays slightly buckled, you can get that last 10% flatness by gently using a hair drier / heat gun (from afar). To me the buckling isn't an obstacle anymore, even whenever I don't tape my painting. I let it buckle without worrying too much about it.
It says on it Designer's Gouache, and under that "Permanent White" (PW6). Hope that helps! Also thank you for the kind words and huge support, and this AMAZING palette, really encourages me 🙏♥ On tomorrow's vid I also use this palette and thank you ^_^
@LironYan thank you for the info..I have a few watercolors of poinsettias( large Christmas card sized) that I want to add white splatters for my daughters...perhaps the last of my paintings. Ps..my youngest just came thru the door with a shirt I had painted daisy's on 39 years ago..and it still looks like the day I painted it)
