    Honestly the fact a process like this is still needed in 2016 is a bit ridiculous....Really need to get with the times Nintendo and start attaching downloads etc to Usernames with an online system instead of to hardware itself. I love my New 3DSXL and 2DS but seriously the transfer process is just stupidly outdated and anti consumer.

      this really pissed me off. i hate how its not tied to your account. it should be tied to your account just like it is on 360, x1, ps3, psv, ps4. it makes absolutely no sense. what if i sold my 3ds and bought a new one? you're basically screwed. all your purchases would be gone forever.

    • @pika62221
      @pika62221 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Nintendo expects you to buy the new one first, then sell the old one. Your Nintendo Network ID account is the reason why they tie everything to the system, they lose the account stuff, it'd be a lot easier...

      im still using the old 3ds xl, i bought pokemon omega sapphire from the nintendo digital shop, downloaded it into my sd card. So if i bought a new 3ds xl, can i have those games back again if i login my nintendo id on that new 3ds xl ?

    • @TheGamerGuy1981
      @TheGamerGuy1981 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Setsuna It's not quite that simple, you would need to perform a full system transfer with both handhelds in your physical possession (which takes awhile) and then you could use it on the new handheld but no longer the old one.

    • @setsuna7618

      LiquidEvilGaming great, so i still can use my nintendo id from my old 3ds on my new 3ds xl right? because right now my nintendo on old 3ds has 60$ balance but i cant buy any games due to low memory on sd card and i planned to buy a new 3ds xl with 32gb..and im so confused on how to transfer from old to new 3ds xl without a wrong step.

    • @ToastyMozart
      @ToastyMozart 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** Even then, you'd have to have a pretty well rated set of SD cards, I'd hope the n3DS's wireless card was capable of more than the ~4MB/s a lot of crappy flash storage is rated for.

    • @thomandy
      @thomandy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ToastyMozart Not sure If I got that.. but I should work from the get go? I dont need to get better SD cards for that to work?! ..anyways, yes, 4GB is little! I don’t think anyone would do that anymore. They’ll probably now just do a PC-Based Transfer since it’s faster and more reliable and less prone to disconnect and fail. Alternatively, if their old system has a microSD card inside an adapter, they can just move the card over to the new system

    FOR ANYONE HAVING PROBLEMS AFTER STEP #14:
    While copying the folder from your original 3DS named "Nintendo 3DS" to your New 3DS's Micro SD card, if you decide to merge the two "Nintendo 3DS" folders together (the one from your original 3DS and the one on the New 3DS's Micro SD card), the new system won't be able to recognize your DSi games when you put the Micro SD card back in the New 3DS. If this happens, just put the Micro SD card back in your computer, go into the folder, go into the folder that starts with "bf95," and there should be 2 folders. DO NOT delete the one that starts with "c62800", it has the data you need on it. Instead, delete the other folder, which should be completely empty. Then, when you put the Micro SD card back into the 3DS, the DSi games should transfer over just fine.
    I had a little scare while doing this but after a little bit of checking, I came to the conclusion that the New 3DS couldn't deal with there being an extra, empty folder in the spot I mentioned above so I deleted it and tried putting the card back in, and it worked. I'm glad that was the problem, or I probably would've lost all of my data and bricked my new system because I wouldn't have been able to get to the menu of my New 3DS.

    I just did a wireless transfer and played other games and watched shows while I waited. It took a while but it was much less stuff to worry about. I did change the card to a 32 gb one though, so i'll be good for a long time. I upgraded from a normal sized cosmo black 3DS to this one so the change is quite noticeable. I'm loving my New 3DS XL. :D

      But either way this goes, we are going to have to insert the 32GB MicroSD card into the New 3DS XL before we even turn it on for the first time, update the firmware, do the system transfer from the old 3DS XL, and then take the 32GB MicroSD card out of the NEW 3DS XL AFTER that in order to copy the files from the PC on it? I just don't wanna have to take off the back plate twice. Lol

    • @ArcadianGenesis
      @ArcadianGenesis 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      OmegaWeaponFFVIII I only removed the backplate once. Turn it on with the stock microSD card and initiate system transfer. When you get to the end of the system transfer, it tells you to turn off both systems and copy files with your PC. At that point, remove the backplate and insert your new microSD (with files copied onto it).

    I did this before; when my data was almost transferred, one of the systems didn't pick up the Internet connection. I was scarred that 3 years of my gaming data would disappear, and I was aware that it could be undone. So, I listened to the systems, and had to fully transfer my data to the other system the next day. As a result, I transferred my data successfully.

    You know how I transfer data on my Vita? I use the cloud-based servers to upload the files then download them whenever necessary. You know how I transfered my old data on my PSPs and old DS'? Simply switching out the damn cards.
    Another option for Vita is to back up the system via the PS3 save option. That way you can back up all of the contents on the vita, then just reconnect it via USB to retrieve the data should you need it at any time.
    Why didn't Nintendo make it so you plug your old 3DS into the Wii U, back it up there, then plug in the new 3DS and retrieve the backup save files that way? It's simpler, and I'm willing to bet that many people who own a 3DS own a Wii U.
    Just a thought.

    All this seems to make sense except for a couple of things. If you're transferring the files through the local at the beginning, which it looks like you are, then why the heck are you going through the trouble of putting the cards in your computer? The original SD card on the old system just got formatted. There's no point using the computer at all. I feel like the phrases, "There are multiple ways you can transfer your files." and "or" were left out of this video. Because steps 12 - 16 make no sense after you've gone through everything else. If all I have to do is put my cards in my computer and copy a folder, then I don't need to do steps 2 through 11. Am I the only one who noticed this?
