  • On the 10th day we visit Furnas, a charming village nestled in the eastern part of São Miguel Island. It's a truly unique place, sitting within a dormant volcanic crater that last erupted in 1630. This volcanic activity has left behind a remarkable landscape of thermal springs, fumaroles (steam vents), and bubbling mud pools, making Furnas a geothermal wonderland. Intertwined in that mix are beautifully maintained gardens. We just scratched the surface on this day on all the things that make up the village of Furnas.
