    I liked your comments for the most part, made alot of sense. As a Niners fan I'd have to say all of the mistakes we made cost us. That punt return was bad enough with the ball hitting the blocker, I'm not even going to blame him for not being aware of where the ball was. However, for the life of me I can't figure out why Ray Ray McCloud didn't just fall on the ball and recover it. Trying to pick it up and run with it when there were 4 Chiefs all around made zero sense! That blocked extra point also gave me a bad juju moment (here we go again) and it cost us the game really.

    I felt like the game changer was that muffed punt and the blocked extra point. Brock Purdy was great but the line didn't protect him in important places, like when Chris Jones came flying in and blew up the touchdown throw. It was an incredibly competitive game, one of the best lately as you mentioned. And it was so close the game could have gone either way. Good point in going for the kill. Great video and appreciate your perspective. Thanks man!

    Maybe everybody's over-thinking it.
    I just think it was the matchup, starting with the corners, outside, that gave Spagnuolo the luxury of mixing things up in all sorts of ways.
    Those two corners, plus 250-lb Leo Chenal who comes in at LB in KC's base, was a big part of KC's win.
    People who see the chunk runs ask "Why didn't they stick to the run?" Well, they DID stick to the run, and it put them behind the sticks. "Why didn't they go to Aiyuk?" He was COVERED.
    I really expected SF to have more weapons than KC could stop. "So what if Sneed and McDuffie are lights-out? We've got Kittle! We've got Jennings! We've got CMC!"
    Did you notice that when SF sent CMC out wide, that KC left Sneed out wide, and just manned him up? That's not what other defenses do against that. It almost always gives SF a clear mismatch somewhere.

      Not capitalizing on opportunities while playing Patrick Mahomes because you have to be perfect when playing Patrick Mahomes*

  • @ewallt
    @ewallt 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    In a close game there’s always going to be missed opportunities. The two things I most agreed with were that the refs did a good job. They let the players decide the game, but did my calls when needed. The other thing was in regards to the prevent defense, although that’s a tricky thing, but if you can time it so you either stop them, of “force” them to score a touchdown quickly so you have time to come back, there may have been an opportunity for that, but it’s tough with Mahomes.
    However, in regards to missed opportunities, the Chiefs had missed opportunities too. They fumbled one first and goal. That’s 7 points. Mahomes missed some wide open guys, including on the interception.
    In regards to getting away from CMC, he was only getting 3 and a half yards a carry. They had to get away from him because it wasn’t working. Also Spagnola is a great DC, and he changed his scheme after halftime. The niners couldn’t just do what they were doing because the Chiefs didn’t let them.
    People consistently underestimate how much luck there is in sports. A call goes one way, a ball hits a goal post (or a throw, like in the Dolphins Redskins first super bowl, with a guy wide open in the end zone. All sorts of random things.
    One weirdly consistent thing is how often the Chiefs come back from behind in the playoffs. The one time they got a nice lead, against the Bengals, they wound up losing.

    • @joericottone
      @joericottone  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No doubt, I’m making the points regarding the 49ers missing opportunities because of how consistently KC comes back if you let them hang around. SF just wasn’t opportunistic enough when KC was stalling out. Really appreciate the comment!

    • @ewallt
      @ewallt 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@joericottone I agree with the concept, but it’s easier said than done. As an example of how much luck there is, I was following the Broncos in 2015, which IMO was their third best ream with Manning (best was 2011), and so many things had to go right for them to get home field advantage in the playoffs, which was the only way they were beating the Patriots, and even then it went down to a missed two point conversion in the championship game. In hindsight, it almost looks like destiny when a team wins. In SF’s case, I felt like they didn’t play well throughout the playoffs, being fortunate to win both their playoff games. They started great in the Superbowl, which was the best they looked since the regular season. I like their team. Started rooting for them in their first win, 1981 I think it was. This time I think they and kc were very evenly matched, and a ten game match might go 5-5. If Purdy continues to improve, they could be really, really good.

    Hi Joey, I really appreciated your take on the game, great insights on the plays that changed the game. I grew up south of Kansas City and totally agree with your assessment of them, they looked disjointed and out of synch most of the season. And that's how they looked for much of the Super Bowl after their opening drive. The defense kept them in the game and in overtime, it was Chris Jones who prevented an easy touchdown throw. Then the Chiefs did just enough to win, relying on Mahomes' ability to scramble on key downs. But, we'll take it!

    • @joericottone

      Brady won 3 super bowls in the old NFL though, I really don’t see much of a difference between the NFL in the years of Aikman and Montana vs ‘01-‘05. The Mel Blount rule was put in in ‘78, so Montana, Elway, Aikman, Marino all benefited from that.
      Absolutely, not having to worry about getting crunched in the pocket is a benefit, and the defenseless receiver rules are wack, but DBs have also adapted and have never been consistently more athletic.
      People make the same argument about Lebron playing in the modern gen, but I think if you put him on a team in the 80s/90s he would use every bit of muscle and power in his frame to dominate - similarly, I think Mahomes would make defenders sick.
      Believe me, I have respect for the elders and don’t make my statements without putting some thought into them, but still, I’m saying Mahomes is “arguably” second best meaning people could make an argument for him.
      Regardless I appreciate the comment!

    One time is an accident, twice is a coincidence, 16 post season playoff games and only two loses among those games over the last 5 years isn't luck or chance. Most of these games they trailed at some point and for many (but not all) they trailed until their final possession or two. At some point in the next few years important coaches and players will be leaving KC, and we will see what player or what coach they lose that starts their decline. But I don't think Shanahan did very much wrong, and KC also made mistakes in the game, but KC's wins haven't been luck. Happens with most games: one side makes one or two fewer mistakes and that ends up being the difference. But KC has a 5 year history of comebacks that shows they have a good core and smart coaches, who learn quickly enough from mistakes to correct the problem before that game is over.

      Not excuses lol i have no affiliation to the 49ers - I gave the Chiefs their flowers many times, the game also went to OT and SF had many chances to put it away. Its funny how Chiefs fans will act like they weren’t sweating that entire game out

    The real reason is Shanahan is a really bad big game coach. Three times now he has blown the SB. Now they hire that fool from SD another horrible decision.

      @@joericottone I have no idea but a few influential crazy far right nuts had this conspiracy theory that the FBI was helping the Chiefs win the whole season and then help them win the Super Bowl - some how it is supposed to help Biden win.

    What went wrong?. KS had the misfortune of going up against THEE GOAT in Brady and then the Lil Goat in PM not only once, but twice. Note that it took Brady to beat Patrick & as awesome as Purdy has played well beyond his perceived capabilities, he is not a GOAT. The AFC had many chances to push KC out of the way but the supposed Juggernauts of the Bills, Ravens and Dolphins couldn’t get it done and either could the Niners. Chill on the Kyle is to blame talk. He made some lame duck moves for sure but Mr. Murphy and Lady Luck had a lot more say in the outcomes. Again…he drew THEE GOAT and twice he drew the Lil Goat. Good luck to any coach facing such without a GOAT of his own at the helm.

      I agree. Brock Purdy is a serviceable qb with a great team. But he’s no Mahomes and he’s no Brady. Unfortunately, that’s who you have to be to win in this era.

      3 sb wins with 3 sb mvps, More SB than Elway, marino, rodgers, manning, Roethlesberger, Young.
      2 league MVPs - won the superbowl without a true #1 weapon?
      You tell me how he isnt in the argument as the second greatest QB ever and prove that you don’t know ball
