Glad to see more of things I can find and afford! I need to do another flight fight myself...in the process of making an infinity bottle, too. Cheers, you two.
I enjoyed this episode and listening to your tasting notes on the ECSB, J.T.S. BiB and Larceny. I'm a Heaven Hill fan, so those 3 bourbons are a part of my 7 day rotation which also includes J.W. Dant BiB, Evan Williams Single Barrel, Rittenhouse and Henry McKenna 80 proof...plenty of variety to keep my palate satisfied on any given day.
It's funny because tonight I compared a Knob Creek SB store pick 120 proof v. ECBP (forget the batch and too lazy to walk down to basement and find out) 130+ proof and the Heaven Hill contender won in a stroll. Not the same of course, but it was interesting you pitted their relatives against each other and it went the other way.
I happened to be drinking my first knob Creek in probably 8 years while watching this video, and totally agree! I was shocked by how great it is, way better than I remember!
First off.........Loe the channel! Secondly I'm a new bourboneer ( is that even a word? ) anyway.........I've only tried a few bourbons 4 to be exact (Knob creek sb, Elijah Craig sb, Buffalo Trace and Larceny) funny that three of those were in your semi final here! Very cool. Love love Knob Creek. Buffalo trace and larceny were to me just ok.........But Elijah Craig was in another Bourbon Zone for me! Was bummed I have to admit it didn't beat out Knob Creek but from watching your vids I've excepted the fact you two are just proof hounds! lol Can't wait for the finals!
If I have been keeping score correctly, the finals will be three Heaven Hill products (David Nicholson 1843, Evan Williams BiB, Evan Williams Single Barrel), Jim Beam's Knob Creek Small Batch, and Buffalo Trace. My guess is that Trace will win and we still won't be able to find it! LOL! Just playing, I love the channel.
Glad to see you back to the 64 under $30 really interesting seeing all these Bourbons even though I don't see most of these bottles up here in Minnesota. Second in a few months I will be getting bottles from the first ever barrel pick I have run and I was really hoping I could send you a sample and get your opinion on the barrel the group picked from the samples knob Creek sent up to me. I don't know if you mentioned in other episodes how to send you samples but I am just curious if you would want a sample and how I could send it to you if you did. Thanks Chad and Sara. Keep up the good work and I am happy to hear your opinions on whiskey and see your reaction to Bourbons I most certainly will never get to try in my life.
I think you should both do all 5, when you come to a situation like this. It's great to hear both of your opinions, when you're both trying the same bourbon! This way we can see if anyone changes their mind.
I moved to Kentucky in 1991. I think they wanted a name like Scotch from Scotland, instead of just calling it whisky (ending with ky for Kentucky, instead of key). Bourbon might be a chocolate bonbon, with a sharp burr added for an afterkick to get the name. The most popular from cheap to high- Heaven Hill, Jack Daniels whiskey from Tennessee, Makers Mark, Woodford Reserve, Pappy Van Winkle. Beginners are probably better off starting with a bourbon mixed with coffee creamer, egg nog or boiled custard, more like Bailey's Irish Cream. To really test it, buy a big bottle and drink it all over several weeks, then do the same for several others, like renting a car for a long weekend trip including curvy mountain roads and long straight roads, instead of a half hour test drive.
I’m so into small batch right now! Might be because I just started my bourbon drinking but it’s something about that smooth medium, richness of the small batches that keep me aiming around that 98% and below proof...but the Singles in that 98 and below get my juices flowing too 🥰🥰🥰🥰
What if...and I’m just spit balling...but what if yal did something special with the 1st place winners, like a cocktail special or a special background thingy I’m so drunk right now watching and sipping haha...love the vids!
Happy with the #1 pick. Larceny smells and tastes like licorice and whole wheat bread to me. It's not a bad sipper, but definitely far from the most pleasant bourbon I've had.
I don't know why the almighty algorithm is pumping three year old videos from you two onto my feed, but I'm on board. Chad, Alison Brie, sorry... Sara... great work, as always. 😏
Evan Williams BIB. $25 for the 1.75 liter bottle. That's insane. Gotta drink it with Coke for now. Tastes like black licorice. Not sure how long it takes to be able to actually smell and taste anything but alcohol, from 100 proof. I'll get there, eventually. :)
There is similarity in flavors is dew to the commonality of ingredients (corn, chared American white oak) there are many factors that effect the final product, but the basic root is still corn sweetness, caramel and vanilla from the Oak
Been a bourbon fan for a long time, and it never occurred to me to look for something like this on YT... This was my first episode and you got me hooked. Liked and subscribed. Cheers from Portugal Edit: couldn't find the podcast on the app I use (podcast addict)- does it not have the same name as the channel?
@@ItsBourbonNight I can eat the spiciest of foods, but sometimes I am not in the mood. Is there a time when one might want a drink without a bite? I heard Gran Dad 114 is the same mash and can be added to kick this up. Have you ever done something similar?
I realize my tolerance for hot foods has gone up the more I eat them, does this happen with higher proofs? I happen to be on the search for my first bourbon under $30. I have been a tequila and gin drinker.
14:20.... Yep, Sara has had 6 to many, and this is how Chad ended up in the hospital.......... Feel for ya Chad.... 16:12, smart man...... 17:53... "I can sleep in my bed tonight"
I'll pass on Larceny when you can get Rebel Yell 100, a wheater sourced from the same distillery as Larceny, for four bucks less and it's also higher proof and better.
Evan BIB really should be in there. Those just barely hit under 30 with taxes. A few don’t in my state. Evan white is under $20 out the door and better than a couple of those imo.
Have been drinking whiskey for a few months and still cant taste the difference like the "brown sugar" "oak" etc. Ither than the proof difference a lighter whiskey from stronger
It took me a couple months to taste the wood note. I was drinking ewbib, then switched to a knob creek sb. The wood came through. I dont think I'll ever get the notes that these guys get though.
I don't think any of these would be close to winning Semi-Finals #3. Please include a wildcard for a 5 bourbon finals. OGD got a rough draw being put against itself with BiB and 114 and then was borderline winning the hardest semi-finals.
Thin, burny, nearly zero nose, hardly a finish: yep, that’s Larceny. It’s not bad, but (to my nose and buds) it really not good either. Also 14:23. When Chad gets zero credit for being completely correct. Just can’t win.
Yes you were right Chad on the artificial cherry issue. But Sara's look into the camera said to us that you are now on double super secret probation. Do not forget you are married to one the most beautiful women in America and she is about 2 steps over your pay grade. Plus she loves Bourbon too.
I definitely like makers mark better than knob Creek small batch. The knob Creek taste like MR Boston or mc Worth's vodka with some smoke flavors. I don't like it.

Top and Bottom shelf is just a frame of mind! We say drink what you like.

I’ve really been on an Elijah Craig kick lately! For the price it’s great!! Never had J T Brown tho. Love the channel u guys are awesome!!!
It kills me that they changed it. It was noticeably better before. Really sad.
Honest I just fast forward. I don’t ever taste things like nuts vanilla etc. I can only taste burn oak and bourbon.
Agree. I think sometimes this people a just pretending based on what other say or based on the ingredients the distillery is in there.

Which Springfield are you guys from?
I like EWBIB but damn it gives me a hell of a hangover.

Chad, Raisinets are awesome!!
I got some knob Creek last night and I now can say I have actually tried knob for the first time and I don't like it. Lol!
I stock Larceny for Whiskey Sours. And ECSB for Old Fashioneds.
JTS Brown reminds me of Fast Eddie in The Hustler.
I was thinking the same thing. everytime i hear JTS brown i think of fast Eddie Felson
VERY WELL DONE!!
I just got a bottle of Basil Hayden for $29.99. If you have tried, where do think it would fall?
It's just not for us. Has nothing to do with Basil Hayden, there's not really any 80 proofer that we enjoy that much.

Well, not surprising that KC fanboy Chad chose it, but I am a bit surprised that Sara did as well.
