      Yea this is the easiest job, but I know some mechanics that charge 450+ to swap out in Chicagoland area

    I got my steering wheel cocked to the right and i hear a clunking noise when i brake. Mechanic said its my right lower control arm at this point. I still want to replace the lower steering column or the upper because i hear that it binds and causes a kinking noise. Im not even sure at this point.

    Good video. Make sure you all torque those bolts down to ~25 foot pounds; I made mine too loose, and it felt horrible on the highway. (Of course, in the end, the shaft on my Vic wasn't the issue - I'm still chasing other sloppiness in the wheel.)

      Aye I’m glad you are all right, was this video some what helpful?

      @@itsraheem Thanks! I managed to do it myself some months ago, so just sharing my experience. I'm sure a lot of newbies were helped out by this video, though, because there really aren't many instructional videos surrounding the steering shafts. Anyway, I inspected mine and determined it was fine. Rack might be loose, though.

    You are supposed to lock the steering wheel straight or tie it down straight or you will damage the clock spring.

    • @itsraheem
      @itsraheem  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s right, but when the key isn’t in the column, my steering locks up.

    What are the symptoms of this shaft being bad? I have a weird vibration that comes and goes while driving. Itll vibrate for 5 seconds go away vibrate go away. Worsens with hitting small bumps

      Honestly the biggest thing is slight play on the steering wheel. It can be very slight, but it’s best if you had help inside of the car(slightly moving the wheel while you go outside and feel the joint for play.

    So will this help fix problems with the steering play?

    • @itsraheem
      @itsraheem  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      please test the play in your steering linkage first. (wiggle the steering wheel & have a camera record the play within the steering shaft.) but this part goes bad often so I hope it does correct your steering play.

    Hear you could put a 2007 crown Vic shaft and it eliminates the goofy bent knuckle

    Was your steering stiff??

    • @itsraheem
      @itsraheem  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When these shafts go bad they mainly bind up (stiff). But mines was the opposite my steering shaft joints had a lot of play.
