Hey Sam, thanks a lot for all the info on the 907x. Question for you: when you're shooting portraits outside on the street with random pedestrians, how bright is the monitor on the back? Do you have issues seeing the monitor in bright daylight?
@@franknelissen8041 Hi Frank, I ended up buying the new 907x (reg edition) and absolutely love it. I can't recommend it enough. The screen brightness is great. Of course if the sun is shining directly into the screen, it makes it difficult to see, but I took the camera out into the golden hills of California on a bright sunny day and faced only a few instances where I needed to use my hand or body to shade the screen. If you get the camera, I recommend turning on the zoom focus feature. The autofocus is okay, but I find the manual focus to be faster and more accurate. Don't quote me on this, but I believe the 907x special edition has a slightly smaller screen and is not as bright since it's the first edition.
Wow...I’m getting ready to purchase the black and silver edition when it comes out shortly. Your videos have convinced me after reading everything that I can about this platform to buy this platform as a retirement present to myself. My heart stopped when you dropped that camera over and over in the replay. I’m glad that I watched. Thank you for sharing.
Yes sir it will. I’ve dreamt about medium format since I began my career in photography. I’m so excited. Glad you were able to get the lens repaired at such a modest price.
What flash system are you using for the 907x? I'm considering buying Hasselblad and would prefer the 907x to the X1D but am not sure if it would work well with a Profoto system.
No I’m not shooting anamorphic, but I do think cropping the aspect ratio can distract from the content. (It honestly distracts me a little in this video... but I went for it anyway, as you can see;)
I have almost dropped the digital back on the ground three times now, but thankfully caught it each time. Once, disconnecting it off the back of my Cambo and twice off the back of my 500C/M. The 500 series is the worst as the chimney viewfinder slider is millimeters away from the digital back slider. Hasselblad seriously needs to figure out a safety attachment mechanism for this thing! Glad you got it back up and running.
been there, done that! i hate when strap hngs over edge or anyhing else. that is why i put strap only when i need it. so happy Peak design made Anchor links.
Man, I feel completely identified with you, trying to work with the kiddos trying to play with my camera! I dropped my former camera in the Atlantic so I’m pretty sensible nowadays
Cool Video! My father was a commercial photographer for 40 years or so. I remember going with him on a shoot of some kind when I was about 14 years old. He had just changed the lens on his 500 C, from the 80mm to the 150mm as I recall. While he was twisting on the 150mm Sonnar he had placed the 80mm Planar front element down on a table that was just off to his left. Just before he could retrieve the lens, as he was turning around, he was just in time to witness a random individual smash out his cigarette on the real element of the lens, erroneously thinking it was an ashtry!
You Sir are not the 1st - after using a Mamiya RZ for hundreds of years I got mine a month ago and couldn't really adjust to the mirco size of it and then......oops but amazingly it still works but is a little battle scarred
@** Grip. I tried it - hopeless. the thing is very unwieldy with it, balance is all wrong. Viewfinder. Worse than useless unless you are amazing at guessing.But......once you get to grips with this 'ever-so-slightly-different' way of taking photographs then it is amazing - not a one shoe fits all - the XCD still has to play its part - but the 907 is a joy
@@SamMcGhee Yep me too - whilst its not a fragile thing per se - its just a little more dainty and differently balanced than other things we use - over time we will soon be chucking it from one palm to another with the sort of alacrity and carefree abandon of a blind juggler!!!!!
Thank you! I've been lusting after this camera, but now am not so sure. My Nikons and Nikon lenses have suffered much abuse and kept on working! I know me and I won't baby a camera so much or well. I suppose I could learn, but then it might limit the usefulness.
Got it. But have you also figured a flash solution? Even if I use a cable and connect it to the trigger the trigger is going to hang as the camera does not even have a dumb flash mount
I’m just using our video LEDs here, as we are a film studio and that’s what’s readily available. But you are right; there’s no hot shoe, so you will have to have a dangling flash sync. 😢
Many years ago, a manager that I worked for dropped a Hasselblad 500 C/M, Carl Zeiss lens and tripod off a 2,744 meter mountain in the Canadian Rockies, he was hiking on his day off. A vertical drop to the lake below, probably the wind gusted and swept it off the mountain. We minions couldn't even afford one (1980). His pride was damaged and I don't think he even replaced it...
Now that's a story that could be framed in the right way to seem like a Nat Geo extreme photography story. Replace the camera and tell people you lost the first one 2,744 meters down the Canadian Rockies. People would respect the extreme nature of your work. ;)
ouch!, this is why with my D 610 / D 700 Nikon cameras, I ALWAYS wear straps, or use a tripod, and NEVER let the little nephews anywhere near it ( mine; twins B+G, the boy got hold of his dad's I phone and changed the time/country to Vladivostok time :-(); took me (have Autism) 10 sec. to fix it!); PS as I understand from the ads there is a GRIP which increases the size to an SLR or mirror-less configuration, easier to hold, and have control of such a thin camera. ( only $175 AUD, or there about).WELL WORTH investing in!!
Honestly that's really a bad thing for Hasselblad. I've dropped my 503CW from a table to a concrete floor and apart form a dent it didn't do anything. Same goes for just about any other camera I've owned, including the GFX 50s.
I dropped my M-P (Typ 240) on concrete when the Leica strap failed. It bounced and rolled. I was sick but it barely scratched the camera and even the rangefinder stayed calibrated. But I had PTSD flashbacks for days. lol Crazy strong camera.
Years ago I left my car with a analog M and, don't know how, I trapped the camerastrap in the car door and try to walk away as a magic power (god damn trapped strap) pulls the M out of my hand. The M swung a semicircle of the length of the strap and hit the door with the lens. The helical mount of the lens was skipped at an angle and was irreparably destroyed. The M's bayonet was warped but could be repaired.
Well shoot. I’ll shoot some party confetti in my back yard in your honor. Thank you for noticing. I’ve purposefully tried not to pay attention to the numbers.
@@SamMcGhee too late now. I've been waiting for this moment for months, checking every hour your subscriber count. But you can keep the confetti for someone else. Hey enjoying your videos greatly, hope you find the time to start making them again. As far as durability goes it really depends on so many things. Even the most durable camera can be destroyed by the corner of a rock hitting a weak spot.

I'm sure it's up to luck and angles. Even though 500c it is undeniably masterfully made (I own an 500cm), it is still a somewhat heavy piece of precision mechanics and glass. Even a tiny drop with bad angle can cause a misalignment which in turn can lead to a light leak, decentered lens or failed shutter mechanism. On the other hand, in a good day and angle, you can probably drop it down from a third floor balcony and be just fine.
I have a big, heavy 4x5 camera that has survived its 70 year duration since being released, and it's fair share of face plants I'd assume. Still works fine. 🤣
