    If you read the specification before review you'd see Beaudens has max solar input approx 43watts so you won't get all available juice from 100w panel. Even so mine charges quickly with 50w Renogy eclipse panel.

  • @jfinnall
    @jfinnall 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Anyway to test the panel? It looks like it has four separate panels. Two may be in series then the two pairs are in parallel. One pair might not be working and then it would only be 50 watt. That sounds more inline with the described service. Perhaps use a volt meter on the output cable and cover all the panels. The voltage should be zero. Then uncover each panel while watching the voltage. By mix and match the covers the panel operation might be verified. Just a thought and good luck.

    I have the exact same thing and mine charges fast. Few hours is the most it has taken in sunshine. Not great charging from the car. 1st charged it at home with 110v. All in all I'm liking mine. One thing, make sure you get the solar panel from Bueden's as the charging input did not fit the Jackery 100 watt. Plus I have used it with a regular all in one computer for a couple of hours.

    Looking at Beaudens web page, this unit seems to be based on sixteen 26500-3300 LIFPO4 batteries. I note that the system specs on the web page say that the DC input is limited to 14.8 volts at 3 amps, so even if it does have an MPPT controller, it can't accept more than 45 watts DC input for charging. Consequently, the unit would require at least 4 hours of full sun on the 100 watt solar panel to fully recharge. The solar panel looks like four 25 watt panels wired in parallel. A broken wire or bad contact could reduce the output of that panel greatly, which could account for the long charging times.

    • @super-sim1665
      @super-sim1665 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great comment. I would think the voltage is going too high for the little unit. A smaller solar under 45 watts may just keep its voltage to 14.8 but that 100 watt is going to be over voltage 17 volts and stop charging for 50% of the time.

    For testing / reviewing / trouble-shooting, it would be good to monitor the voltage and current coming out of the solar panel so you would know for sure how many watts (Volts x Amps) you are getting and how it varies over time. That would determine whether the solar panel is performing per spec. If it is, you can rule out the panel as the problem.

  • @PixelShade

    @CheapRVliving It definitely depends on the built in charge-controller. I have a big 42Ah Xtorm Power Bank Pro. It can basically run 2x 200W devices (+ 3x 15W usb). However the charge port is a 24V 2A, which means, even if you get 80-100W from the solar, the charge controller only taps into a maximum of 48W. Mine takes 8 hours to charge out of the wall. And could be worse with solar. One thing worth mentioning however is that the last 20% almost takes as much time as the first 80%. For longevity of the lithium-ion cells it is actually best to charge it slowly up to ~80%

    I live off the grid in Hawaii and couldn't get Amazon to send me a Jackery so I ordered one through Home Depot. It's different from the one offered on Amazon, my Jackery is called HLS 200. It works great, it keeps everyone's phones, lights, and laptops charged and I only charge it twice a week, (once on laundry day and once on movie night) with the Honda generator. It was $261, but part of that was shipping and special handling. By the way, off the grid was never a problem (I've lived this way over 30 years) until these rechargable gadgets came out.
    Love your channel! I keep thinking I will join the nomads but Hawaii weather is a hard act to follow. 😀
    Best Wishes and Happy Holidays.

    It may be a poorly crimp or solder in the charge wire or on the panel, so I would check out those connections first. It sounds strange that a company would risk their goodwill by sending out faulty products, but those panels may be the issue, as the box itself does what it is supposed to. Maybe you should contact the supplier about this issue.

  • @bobbyzig3879

    The mppt controller will charge the battery at only a max of 42 watts. However, it will even do so if it is being given less than ideal input voltage. So it has its ups and downs.

  • @lindasue8719
    @lindasue8719 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Since it is **so** way off, it makes me wonder if one or the other is faulty, not that it is necessarily a bad unit/combo.
    Was another test done or planned perhaps with a different set of solar panels?

    • @lacha608
      @lacha608 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, but do you want to buy from a company that has such poor quality control that even a unit they're.offering for a public review is defective?

      Hmmm... not sure what you're referring to here, but apparently somebody here has a problem with sarcasm and negativity, which all have their time and place, but has no problem attempting to be emotionally manipulative and controlling. Slightly interesting, from a psychological standpoint, but mostly just a bit offensive.

  • @learnshareevolve1842
    @learnshareevolve1842 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hobo Tech got into the weeds on this and found that the mppt controller stabilizes/limits the input charging at 43 watts. So, if you're drawing a significant amount of energy while charging, it will take forever to recharge. Without load, it can recharge in about 4 hours.

  • @davidapps2605

    To me it really does look like a problem with the solar panels. Test them and I bet you its a wiring fault .

  • @ThisWontEndWell

    The Beaudens only charges off solar at 40 watts. My tip is the Litionite Raiden 160W / 41600mAh Power Bank if you add a cheap 200W 12 volt car socket inverter you can charge it while driving through the USB C port at 100W with a 100W phone USB C PD charger through the 110v inverter socket in an hour and a half. Because of its fast-charging you do not need a huge battery if you are driving about every day and you can still hook up solar while stationary.

    • @super-sim1665
      @super-sim1665 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You want to try a smaller solar panel because dc imput volts are maximum 15 volts. A 100 watt panel is going to be 17 volts under load and 21 volts open circuit.

  • @stomperthemixer1

    I have the same but no matter what sixze panel you conect it input will be around 43watts, awesome peice of kit for emergency charging but i charge from wall only. I have just bought the Swary portable power station 518wh with a 120watt panel but again the imput watts from solar are still low.

    I'm in the process of building my 6 x 12 cargo trailer, I have a deep cycle battery an inverter but I was looking for something to help for heat at night so I ordered a Milwaukee heated vest and I never took it off, I love this thing, so they have a m18 battery adapter with a usb port so I can use it for running my Milwaukee Tools or to run my heated vest and to charge my phone and other usb things. I ordered a 12v charger that charges the 12 and the m18 batteries

    It's my understanding that it makes at 40 something watts. So a 100 watt panel would be better suited to charge it in decent sun since that 100 watt will get more watts than say a 50 watt panel.

  • @NoName-zq6ic
    @NoName-zq6ic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well, if it's a 100w panel with 12v output then it's 8.33amps going to the battery pack. 2 days of about 6hrs of good sunlight per day sounds about right since 8.33amps isn't a very fast charge rate.

    Just FYI, the max input for the 166wh is 40 watts. Which the 100 watt solar panel should be able to push easily. I have the same setup and can go from dead to recharged in 5-6 hrs. Which connector are you using to go from the battery pack to the solar panel? You should be using the mc4 connectors (the connectors with the two different plugs). Also, the DC (cig lighter) will take much much longer.

      It's spec is 15 volt max so you can only use small 12 volt panels but if the voltage goes too high ie 17 volts it not going to charge. I would think the 100 watt panel has gone above 15 volts and most charge at 17 volts under load.

      No a chance the voltage is too low. The problem is the low 14.8 volt input voltage. Mine does not charge well on dc. Solar and dc are 11.5 - 18 volts so the device stops charging at low and high voltage. Need 30 volt dc input!
