With the release of the honor system, I thought it was appropriate to make a quick guide on how it works, how to rank, and also go over some of the stuff that goes on in the background to hopefully help you decide whether you want to dedicate the time for it. Also, The music fades in a bit early at the ending - my fault, just a mistake in editing.

I probably did 12 hours a day and was only able to get to commander (rank 11). There was so many hardcore pvpers that would always be on. Couldn't compete with them.
I was a casual back in the day. I played a reckbomber paladin. Getting rank 10 gear and rep farming AV to get my unstoppable force was a lot of work but totally worth the grind. Best PVP experience ive ever had in a MMO. As far as rank 14 goes i had a online friend who played a warrior that would let others play his account while he logged off. That account was always online for the PVP honor grind. It was a real eye opener how insane the system was. Its something ill never forget during my WOW gaming experience.
Some updates: Blizzard now allows group queues for AV, shifting the meta back to WSG(for the most part): us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/alterac-valley-adjustments-incoming/422125
MadSeasonShow I don’t know why they didn’t just make AV the pre-nerf version. Some of my favorite memories from classic were those insanely hard fought battles with the NPC reinforcement and bases. I was on alliance though so I had a bit of plot armor ;) Still, this patched AV is so boring in comparison.

It is not something private servers could ever do, and I'm not sure if it was like that in the original vanilla. But what it mean s is that no amount of scouting out the enemy faction will help your premade queuedodge, and essentially removes the incentive for queuedodging. I'd say this is a significant positive change for the system.

But the #nochanges crowd really wanted no differences from the original vanilla, and now this crowd is realizing the issue.
And if they didn't re-release it the exact same, someone would be complaining that Blizzard changed it. I'm starting to feel bad for Blizzard at this point. No matter what they do, everyone will criticize them regardless.

We were big on playing other teams specifically, because many of us were looking for a challenge and none were looking to dodge. As you said, it's honor per hour, so we still cleared a lot of pugs on our way to the next premade. It was fun as hell and though I always wondered if it wouldn't just be easier to take a shortcut...I was there for the pvp. Can't imagine spending all that time to NOT play the game. I got my weapons about a few weeks before that patch where everyone else could get them, and about two months before the expansion that rendered them obsolete. Everyone asked if I was mad now that 'just anybody' could get them. Not really! This game changes all the time anyway, and as much as I liked the weapons, the rank 14 grind with my friends proved to be worth more in the end. If you love to pvp, go as far as you can, or have the time for. Even the battleground honor rewards are not bad, and can put up a fight against all those pve weekend warriors showing up in full tier 1, on their alts.
I feel ya man. I think this pvp is the highest form of it, it was brutal onslaught of sheer will. I knew the gear would be outdated I sold my guy on ebay for $1200. So for me it was totally worth it I guess. I'd say the fun vs the nightmares of the grind itself broke about it, but man that was a time in gaming that they can't get back. The addon has around 30.000 downloads as of 11/18-19. It’s getting updated daily with the correct decay values, not just for ranking, But also the diminishing return on killing the same player more that once

Correction: depending on the class, it's either the gloves or the boots that give the special bonuses. I know that Shamans gain a significant speed increase to Ghost Wolf through their boots, and Rogues have the duration of their Sprint increased.

While the 10% diminishing returns is what the 1.12 formula is, in the Re-release of Classic WoW PVP, Blizzard listed in the post 25% honor diminishing returns. HonorSpy has already updated and changed it from 10 to 25%.
Yep it is 25%. When the honor system was originally released in 2005, honor decayed at 10% per kill but that was changed later on. We're getting the final version of the honor system with 25% decay per kill.
I did this grind twice, and each required the following: I took a semester off each time, a used substances to stay up and focus but most importantly I had my best friend damn near move in with me as he played on my PC when I was asleep. This was on a small rppvp server. Can't imagine doing this grind on a big mega pop server.

Great video. I reached rank 11,almost rank 12,would have ranked up had i not needed to go on vacation for 3 weeks,was rank 5 when i returned,i completely lost interest in pvp which i still loathe to this day. I had my own pvp team,and yes i did pvp 16+ hrs a day for weeks after rank 10.. On my server wins/loses was agreed upon in IRC chat if 2 equal teams met. It was completely insane.
It is a nice story, isnt it.. unfortunatly it is true.. I still got the rank title to prove it,other than that i dont care what you think.. But you are correct in 1 thing,it wasnt 3 weeks but 32 days exactly. Fact is i lost so much rank i completely lost interest in pvp forever.
Got to Rank 13 "back in the day" while raiding 5 nights a week, having a job, girlfriend and a very active band, but road gigs piled up and I could not out play the kids that summer for Rank 14. I had to throw in the towel and accept that Rank 13 was the end for me, after sleeping 4 hours or so a night for months. I ended '06 with 70k+ hk's , first on my server(at one point) and never did a stitch of pvp in '05 so it happened in a years time.....also I would NEVER do that again, ever.

Guilty of the "account sharing" thing in vanilla pvp... however my brother and I (who did almost everything together growing up) had to share a computer (and one WoW account), provided by my parents. We played the same account (pretending we were the same person) all throughout vanilla with the unintended benefit of being able to achieve rank 14, consistently scoring 1st or 2nd in honor points each week.
Blizz could easily prevent queue dodging if they would implement some debuff for leaving the queue, when a game is ready. Like the same way when you leave the BG with that 15min debuff

Made it to Rank 14 back in the day, definitely one of the most time consuming things that ive ever done in a game. Mad season is definitely no lying, you have to commit your life for about 3 months non-stop in just PvP. I personally had a blast with it. This game was amazing and i wish i had the time to play as much as i did back then
I got rank 10 before the pre-TBC patch released, purely from grinding AV and random BG's as a resto shaman in raid gear. Naxx gear was OP, and I was practically unkillable by anyone not in Grand Marshall gear or better. As a result I can now transmog all the HWL gear on my Shaman, as well as all the weapons on my other characters on retail :P
the sad part is that there are people commenting things like yeah it was not so bad, i managed playing 12 hours per day instead of 18 guys wtf don't you have to go school/job depending of age? sleep? eat? 12 hours per day is an insane commitment are you so detached from reality that you don't feel that?
Well you don't need to be R14. I think it's a great system because time spent is more important than skill. This isn't an E-Sport, and making it an E-Sport it one of the ways we got to retail.

Tbc best time to pvp. Everyone already knows the mechanics of each class so rogue for example is close to useless in bg's these days in vanilla. In other words, everyone nowadays knows you have no cloak of shadows so your just gonna get faerie fired and dotted to hell the second your visible. You ultimately just end up basically dueling other rogues off to the side. Only fun to be had is ganking outside raids and sneaking into cities to gank. Gets old real fast unless you love being an asshole.
yup back in vanilla most the rank 14's got there via shared play, 2 players rotating play every 12 hours so there character was pvp'ing pretty much 24/7! The system ment anybody else wanting rank 14 also had to play nearly as much as those running 24/7 as said in video 18+ hours per day to be able to earn enough honor to be in same bracket as those living in bg's.
I was there. I still have a toon that has the Knight Champion rank. Blizzard got rid of the system because it was encouraging very unhealthy play behavior and players sharing accounts. Two players could and did play 24/7 with each player playing 12 hours at a time. I'm surprised that Blizzard has added this part of the game to Classic.
I reached rank 12 in 2006 and this is my advice to anyone thinking of going for this grind - ask yourself if you want wow to be the one most important thing in your life for the next 6 months. If no, then don't bother. If yes then do some self reflection
The release of phase 2 have made me consider quitting Classic. It's just that I realized how far behind I am, both in the level grind and eventually the gear grind. I'm leveling alts and playing with friends, while the rest of my server it seems already have full raid gear. The eventual release of battlegrounds and premades... hell, I don't even want to think of it. I have played on private servers for four years and liked the casual atmosphere. I don't know why so many play Classic like it's so serious or it's their job -- they are ruining the game for everyone.
This has nothing to do with this video. But I'm a 55 hunter and I was starting in western plague lands. Taking down the undead ai one at a time. A 54 mage on a mount just rounds up as many as he can Freeze Teleport and rains frost bolts on them. It had to be close to 1.5k exp per group he was pulling plus the loot... So compared to my 200 xp a single kill Kinda disheartening lol
Honestly dude, during my time into vanilla wow private servers. I cross the way of many guys trying to reach R14. They did it, because when you put the time to reach R11 R12 and R13, if you stop there ( unless you re a drood cause weapons dont really matter ) it's just dumb af They ALL finished in a bad mood, ALL of them. At the end, they completely changed their way of usually being. Frustration, rage, obligation to play and the game just disgusted them. AND they were just obnoxious at the end. They had the gear, the weapons, but they stopped PvP after that and we were to Naxxramas, so .... the gear was pretty much better in Naxx. I'm sure i'll never try to reach high ranks into classic, this is too dangerous for my health and social environment ! Plus, we are on official, there is much more players to compet with, most of them are all engineer and will play with premades... You have to play more than others, and at the end, you have to play more than others + more than the last week ... >< and if you miss one fucking week and lose in rank, you have to do it again... brrrrrr
For the sake of your mental health, I recommend not doing this grind. I say this as someone who reached Rank 13 back in the day without account sharing. It really is 16-18 hours a day with no breaks for several months. Longer if you don't have a consistent premade group.
keep in mind that there are people that don't have a life anyway or professional players that do this for a living, I prefer to have this system even though I will never get close to rank 14 instead of having to farm azerite power just so I can play the game, you can enjoy playing classic without having all the worldbuffs, clearing bwl in under 30 min or getting to rank 14, but there's always the need for something to grind to give the hardcore players a reason to stick around
Tip: Remember to take all things in moderation (even World of Warcraft)
This grind is why that tip exists.
Untill you see an orc in High warlord gear, that is the set i like the most out of them all.

According to blizzard official classic site, they decided to use 25% decay per kill instead of 10%
Yep it is 25%. When the honor system was originally released in 2005, honor decayed at 10% per kill but that was changed later on. We're getting the final version of the honor system with 25% decay per kill.

I did this grind twice, and each required the following: I took a semester off each time, a used substances to stay up and focus but most importantly I had my best friend damn near move in with me as he played on my PC when I was asleep. This was on a small rppvp server. Can't imagine doing this grind on a big mega pop server.

Great video. I reached rank 11,almost rank 12,would have ranked up had i not needed to go on vacation for 3 weeks,was rank 5 when i returned,i completely lost interest in pvp which i still loathe to this day. I had my own pvp team,and yes i did pvp 16+ hrs a day for weeks after rank 10.. On my server wins/loses was agreed upon in IRC chat if 2 equal teams met. It was completely insane.

Got to Rank 13 "back in the day" while raiding 5 nights a week, having a job, girlfriend and a very active band, but road gigs piled up and I could not out play the kids that summer for Rank 14. I had to throw in the towel and accept that Rank 13 was the end for me, after sleeping 4 hours or so a night for months. I ended '06 with 70k+ hk's , first on my server(at one point) and never did a stitch of pvp in '05 so it happened in a years time.....also I would NEVER do that again, ever.

Guilty of the "account sharing" thing in vanilla pvp... however my brother and I (who did almost everything together growing up) had to share a computer (and one WoW account), provided by my parents. We played the same account (pretending we were the same person) all throughout vanilla with the unintended benefit of being able to achieve rank 14, consistently scoring 1st or 2nd in honor points each week.

Blizz could easily prevent queue dodging if they would implement some debuff for leaving the queue, when a game is ready. Like the same way when you leave the BG with that 15min debuff

Made it to Rank 14 back in the day, definitely one of the most time consuming things that ive ever done in a game. Mad season is definitely no lying, you have to commit your life for about 3 months non-stop in just PvP. I personally had a blast with it. This game was amazing and i wish i had the time to play as much as i did back then

I got rank 10 before the pre-TBC patch released, purely from grinding AV and random BG's as a resto shaman in raid gear. Naxx gear was OP, and I was practically unkillable by anyone not in Grand Marshall gear or better. As a result I can now transmog all the HWL gear on my Shaman, as well as all the weapons on my other characters on retail :P

Well you don't need to be R14. I think it's a great system because time spent is more important than skill. This isn't an E-Sport, and making it an E-Sport it one of the ways we got to retail.

Tbc best time to pvp. Everyone already knows the mechanics of each class so rogue for example is close to useless in bg's these days in vanilla. In other words, everyone nowadays knows you have no cloak of shadows so your just gonna get faerie fired and dotted to hell the second your visible. You ultimately just end up basically dueling other rogues off to the side. Only fun to be had is ganking outside raids and sneaking into cities to gank. Gets old real fast unless you love being an asshole.
yup back in vanilla most the rank 14's got there via shared play, 2 players rotating play every 12 hours so there character was pvp'ing pretty much 24/7! The system ment anybody else wanting rank 14 also had to play nearly as much as those running 24/7 as said in video 18+ hours per day to be able to earn enough honor to be in same bracket as those living in bg's.

I was there. I still have a toon that has the Knight Champion rank. Blizzard got rid of the system because it was encouraging very unhealthy play behavior and players sharing accounts. Two players could and did play 24/7 with each player playing 12 hours at a time. I'm surprised that Blizzard has added this part of the game to Classic.
I reached rank 12 in 2006 and this is my advice to anyone thinking of going for this grind - ask yourself if you want wow to be the one most important thing in your life for the next 6 months. If no, then don't bother. If yes then do some self reflection

The release of phase 2 have made me consider quitting Classic. It's just that I realized how far behind I am, both in the level grind and eventually the gear grind. I'm leveling alts and playing with friends, while the rest of my server it seems already have full raid gear. The eventual release of battlegrounds and premades... hell, I don't even want to think of it. I have played on private servers for four years and liked the casual atmosphere. I don't know why so many play Classic like it's so serious or it's their job -- they are ruining the game for everyone.

Honestly dude, during my time into vanilla wow private servers. I cross the way of many guys trying to reach R14. They did it, because when you put the time to reach R11 R12 and R13, if you stop there ( unless you re a drood cause weapons dont really matter ) it's just dumb af
They ALL finished in a bad mood, ALL of them. At the end, they completely changed their way of usually being. Frustration, rage, obligation to play and the game just disgusted them. AND they were just obnoxious at the end. They had the gear, the weapons, but they stopped PvP after that and we were to Naxxramas, so .... the gear was pretty much better in Naxx.
I'm sure i'll never try to reach high ranks into classic, this is too dangerous for my health and social environment !
Plus, we are on official, there is much more players to compet with, most of them are all engineer and will play with premades...
You have to play more than others, and at the end, you have to play more than others + more than the last week ... >< and if you miss one fucking week and lose in rank, you have to do it again... brrrrrr
For the sake of your mental health, I recommend not doing this grind. I say this as someone who reached Rank 13 back in the day without account sharing. It really is 16-18 hours a day with no breaks for several months. Longer if you don't have a consistent premade group.

keep in mind that there are people that don't have a life anyway or professional players that do this for a living, I prefer to have this system even though I will never get close to rank 14 instead of having to farm azerite power just so I can play the game, you can enjoy playing classic without having all the worldbuffs, clearing bwl in under 30 min or getting to rank 14, but there's always the need for something to grind to give the hardcore players a reason to stick around
