    HI,
    I think you can eat dandelion leaves better es a salad. Bevor you can eat it, you had to lay it for 10 Minuten in handwarm water to get the bitter substances out. After that, wasch with cold water. And serve with balsamiko, oliveoil and sunflower seeds. Greetings from the north of germany

    I'm sure someone has already mentioned it, but there's an app called, picture this, that will help you identify plants. Not sure if you have cell service while wandering about, but you could always upload them when you get back to your rv

    • @northtoalaska2022
      @northtoalaska2022  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We will have to try that app! Thank you for the information. We've been using a few books that we have specific to Alaska foraging as well as Google lens, but we will check that out. Sometimes, we do have to take pictures and compare them later as we don't always have service when wandering around.

    I'd be calling Tyler for pizza delivery.... LOL Seriously though, have you walked and mapped out most of the property? I'm guessing it looks much different without the snow cover...

    • @northtoalaska2022
      @northtoalaska2022  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Haha!!! We've walked pretty much the entire property. Definitely look SO different without the snow. But, funny enough, it was easier to snow shoe on top of everything than pushing through brush. At least it is easier to visualize where we can and want to build.

    New to channel, going thru all the videos comments… saw you mention drone and you are new to having a channel. Note on drones. I watched a guy a few years back that got into problem posting drone videos. It seems you need a license from FAA that requires some studying. Might only be if monetized - not sure. Maybe law has changed but might want to check into it. 👍

    • @northtoalaska2022
      @northtoalaska2022  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do believe you are correct! Thanks for bringing this up. Aperently, the law just changed again on this very recently, and it looks like we will need to get a pilot license. I'm looking forward to it!

      Thank you so much! If you love asapargus, it is definitely worth a try! It's like a milder version of it. We do have a drone and have some nice shots of out here. Unfortunately, it rained for nearly 2 months straight, and we couldn't have it out hardly at all. We hope that changes soon and we can get some awesome footage!

    A acquired taste, but if your starving it's ok , get some black seeded Simpson lettuce ,first fry 1lb bacon ,once crunchy take out of fry pan , rinse lettuce a big bowl full will shrink so put a lot in a big bowl , crumble bacon up pit in bowl with lettuce. Reheat bacon grease pour of over lettuce and stir till all grease is wilting lettuce. Add pepper salt a little or what spices you want .. It's called wilted lettuce!!!

      Hello 👋 glad you are enjoying the videos! We do have brown and black bears that move through the area. They had a moose kill on our property this spring. Bears can be very defensive of a kill. Sometimes, moose decide to stomp humans and pets as well. We like to take precautions to prevent being mauled or stomped to death unexpectedly. Thankfully, all of our interactions to this point with nature have been peaceful in alaska 🙂

  • @joannabowers1358
    @joannabowers1358 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Don’t know if you are aware, but if you get an iron skillet hot before introducing food into it, food won’t stick nearly as bad.

    • @northtoalaska2022
      @northtoalaska2022  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the tip 😀
      Do you happen to have a tip for stainless steel? That's the pan that gives us a sticking problem, even with oil or butter, and we haven't found a solution that works yet.

    • @joannabowers1358
      @joannabowers1358 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@northtoalaska2022 gosh, I avoid them. I use cast iron skillets mainly. With my steel pots, I keep the temperature low to medium to avoid that problem. It seems to help. I just keep steel wool to clean them when I get too happy with the fire. I got tired of the food stuck to the iron skillets that had to be soaked to get them clean. I knew to get the pan hot before I made cornbread, but I didn’t know that the reasoning was to keep it from sticking…and I’m your mama’s age.

    • @northtoalaska2022
      @northtoalaska2022  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joannabowers1358 We almost solely use cast iron, too, unless we need multiple big pans and don't have enough cast iron pans. We do have some steel wool, and we've used that, but the cast iron is just much easier to clean. I'll certainly be keeping all that in mind from now on so we don't have any more food sticking 👍 We appreciate your input!

      @@northtoalaska2022I've seen where they cut an onion and sprinkle salt in the pan and get it hot while swirling the onion in the pan and then nothing stuck to the pan.
