It's always a pleasure to watch the Delta Track Versatile in action. Just an awesome tractor hands down. As soon as I hit the lottery and buy myself a nice farm then I'm gonna buy a Delta Track.
Optimum slippage is 5% with 4WD wheel tractors if memory serves. Not too much, but just enough to get maximum traction. Meaning, any more slippage means wasting fuel. Might vary some according to tires, soil type and implement.
This appears to be as close to an apple-to-apple comparison as you can get. Not surprised that the track machine had less slippage-even at higher speeds. Can anyone comment on track versus tire life? Thanks Mike for an excellent video.
Who all is behind the resurrected Versatile company? My farm is right across the road from the Steiger farm where they built the first Steiger tractors. Back in the day there were lots of Versatile tractors in our area too.
I just saw another video of a test between tracks and tires and, under those testing conditions, that tires were better. See, Case Quadtrac vs World's largest farm tires. One of the things mentioned in that video was that the wheel tractor possessed a more comfortable ride. Old guys might find that interesting.
I would be punching some figures in, I bet there would be fuel saving that would pay for cost of tracks over tyres plus less compaction which would have better yields. Great demo on tractors👍
With radar ground speed working on the Versatile 570 Delta Track, you could have just used that as a pace car for the 550 wheeled tractor, and then read the mph on the wheeled tractor instrument panel and done the math to calculate wheel slip. What track width on this Delta Track?
Probably could have, but you don't need something that fancy to calculate wheel slip. If you know how long the row is, just time how long it takes you to get from one end to the other, while noting the MPH the tractor shows. Now you can calculate feet per minute or feet per second from the row length and the clock time. Feet per second divided by 1.5 is MPH. Compare this to what the tractor speedometer said and you have the wheel slip rate.
Hey Mike, just started watching your vids. And subbed. But Im curious is to what is the full time job you have?? Do you work for multiple farmers around the midwest?, the country, and what do you do for insurance for you and the wife? Im looking to going to farming full time with another farmer due to our farm being sold. I cant give up farming so I figure I would ask you a few questions on how you get by throughout the seasons. Thanks
He's a rep for Versatile Tractors, and they send him all over the place. He gets to film in his spare time. He also helps out one (or maybe more) local farmers near his house, I think mostly just so he can drive a tractor. ;-)
I'm no expert but I'd imagine the 610's outboard planetary drive axle to be more robust and less problematic over it's service life than the also impressive JD RX's portal box.
When the Delta Tracks first come out I think tracks were 60K more than a wheeled version. Also there is a price difference between the 30'' wide tracks versus the 36''.

Should put them on something bigger. . Kinda small implement for those tractors . 120 ft heavy harrow at 10 mph would show a better test of tires vs tracks
Sorry but a 15 shank disk chisel plow such as this is far from small especially running it in the ground as deep as it will go. We do not run heavy harrows in the Corn Belt.
The fuel tanks on the track tractors are different to accommodate the angle of the track versus the tires. Also the planetary gearing is different between the two and the track tractor has some weldments on the frame that the wheel machine doesn't.
Tires dont leave ruts when turning, tracks do. That is why farmers normally stick with tires cause if you have trees in your field or lakes, anything you gotta turn a bit while driving then tires win out, but if you have to drive only in long straight lines then tracks win out.
Put a Quad track in heavy gumbo and it is a smooth steady forward movement on the tractor. Switch to a two tractor for one round and you will park it and beg to get back in the Quad track tractor regardless of color. Plus the increase in ground speed is a HUGE!!! Same engine, same gear - faster ground speed, more acres covered for less fuel. That is called efficiency.
Good comparison and especially compelling to hear the testimony of the farmer himself about how he felt the two tractors ran and pulled.
Love the new color scheme and just the versatile tractors in general.
Thank you Mike. Track system have improved over the last few years.
Ya especially when this is the case design from 15 yrs ago...
@@crazyhass84 it is not
Those old school paint schemes for the win
If I owned the 550 I would have a hard time trading it in ,that’s a good looking machine

Great demonstration!!! I can't wait to see the video showing off the touchscreen display!
I am also in Southern Indiana. Otisco, Clark County Thanks for the videos Farmhand Mike.
Your just 30 min from my house down there in sullivan area ... I've always loved the versatile tractors ...
Informative. I would go with tracks for sure.

I like the automatic coupling but mechanical I do not know what it's called at 2:30
As always thanks for sharing

I bought my Hustler mower from pigg in Sullivan. Great place to to business. And only about 20 miles from me.
Steiger👍👍👍
Very very nice mike
Nice video mike 👌.
That big wheel tractor is pretty quiet...

Hmm. Mike. Can we get an MTS 3630t demo on video? Especially because c18 power!
Mike was is the cost difference between wheel and track if everything else was equal??
Monsters at work! 👍😊
the classic color shem are quit looking better

Is the weight the same on both tractors ?
Very interesting. Mike how does the life of the track vs tire compare in similar conditions. Thanks for sharing and have yourself a great day. Cheers
Yes, tracks can perform great in the field but does it not boil down to cost?? Whether it's the upfront cost and overall.
Nice video Mike 👍
You're not too far away from me!
Cool demo!
How old were the tires on the wheel tractor?
How much does it cost to replace a tire as opposed to replacing a track? And does a track last longer than a tire?
HI Mike ! Good to see you in action with you full time job again ! Sure both machines are a good piece of machinery ! Do you also support combines ?
Did the delta track burn more fuel per hour/acre?
What is the gallon per hour difference between track and the wheel model. Tire versus track replacement cost per life expectancies??
I would be punching some figures in, I bet there would be fuel saving that would pay for cost of tracks over tyres plus less compaction which would have better yields. Great demo on tractors👍
Totally agree!!
Even with all that said, it's an incredible expense.
Wow, nice tractor
how much def. does the 570 burn on a load like that a day? and is the manual transmission option gone on the 4wds?

VERY NICE GOOD JOB POWER 😍💪👏👏👏👍
Just curious what the weight difference is?
What is the price difference between them? Tire vs tracks?
Thanks for the video. How much more horsepower is the 570 then the 550
I guess just watch the whole video have a great evening

I would stay with a wheeled tractor. Cost less up front and till the end.
how many a has this field ?
Mike who makes the power shift transmission for Versatile MFWD tractors?
Uni-Vance/Fuji
Hey mike why cant they just put tracts on the 550 instead of buying a whole new tractor?
The fuel tanks on the track tractors are different to accommodate the angle of the track versus the tires. Also the planetary gearing is different between the two and the track tractor has some weldments on the frame that the wheel machine doesn't.
so would it be impossible to put aftermarket tracts on the 550?
No probably not.
would you think the MFWD tractors could fit aftermarket tracts like susi or mudhog?
