They were married and loved one another, but George's drinking made it impossible for Tammy, and George eventually found sobriety with his fourth wife, Nancy and had a successful 30 year marriage until his death, and Tammy eventually married George Richey her fifth husband and Jones and Tammy found peace with others but still clearly loved one another. Musically, their duets were done before, during and after their marriage to one another because they respected each other as musical artists and their voices blended so sweetly together.
George Jones continued to occasionally name drop her in his live performances, after their divorce. Like one of his performances of "If Drinking Don't Kill Me".
Tammy once hid the keys from George so that he couldn't drive to get liquor. So George drove into town on a lawn mower.. Infamous story. There's an animation of that story in a George Jones and Tammy Wynette episode of "Tales of the Tourbus". You can find the clips on TH-cam.
Even after they divorced they never stopped loving each other. Showtime has a great 6 part miniseries about George and Tammy’s life together based on a book written by their Daughter that was so good and quite a rollercoaster ride.
@@Gutslinger ,,, Hahahaha. Oh Ya, that's me, Mr. Sensitive. Decorated Combat Veteran, USMC. Paul seemed to deny the 6 part mini series existed. Just confirming that it did.
I am sooo happy with your choice of songs! This one is spectacular! It is so sad that their personal life just couldn't make it, like their professional life did! They were married for years, but ultimately divorced and married other people! I always thought that they NEVER stopped loving each other! I saw them in concert in Tupelo, Mississippi, not long after their divorce. They were wonderful! I was a little afraid that George would NOT show up, since he had a problem with alcohol and sometimes would go on a binder, where he just couldn't show! His nickname was "NO SHOW GEORGE", because of this! By the way, they continued to sing together for years, in concerts! She died so very young and will always be missed. At that time, she was known as "The First Lady of Country Music"! I loved her phenomenol VOICE and admirable spirit! She was lovely, inside and out. My hairdresser, Mackey Pettus, at one time was Tammy's hairdresser! I have mentioned before; I am originally from Mississippi, and so was Tammy! She was born in the Prentiss County Hospital and was from a very small area that was almost on the Alabama line! Both states like to claim her...HOWEVER, Tammy, herself, straightened that out at the Concert which I attended, by saying that she, like most people in attendance, was a Mississippian! Your reaction to this song was SPECTACULAR, as they all are! I loved their harmonies! WONDERFUL! They were WONDERFUL! I have a request! If you would, I and several people that I have talked to, would LOVE to hear GEORGE and TAMMY sing "Golden Rings"! It is such a lovely song! Their harmonies in it are SPECTACULAR! PLEASE react to it! Thank you so much for your glowing reaction of "We Gotta Hold On"! I really love your enthusiasm! You are a very, very good reactor and draw us into your reaction, which is always right on target, in my opinion, anyway! Thanks again! And, please react to "Golden Rings"!
I grew up listening to these 2! Together and separate, they always had a connection even after they divorced and both remarried other people. I would classify them as a Super Duet! The other Super Duet of that Era was Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn, Conway and Lorretta were never a couple, but they had chemistry when they performed.
Britt I love your love for music Composition and how it's moves our souls. They were married for a long time and then divorced because of his drinking,, but they still had much love for one another. 🙏🏼💗🙏🏼
Both of them had such incredible phrasing and I really wish you would check out some of her other hits like Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad, but also for some of the most amazing sad phrasing over a very slow waltz, you've got to check out Too Far Gone, and there is definitely a live video from a television appearance of it. But she's got boatloads of classic hits and they all sound just like her, and I loved her so much.
When they divorced they broke the hearts of a bunch of country music fans, mine included. It hurts to see them sing this song now because it didn't quite turn out this way for them. There's no doubt in my mind that George loved Tammy but he just couldn't get his drinking under control.
Some voices were made for each other. Being a George & Tammy fan all my 55 years and knowing their story and how alcohol was a major factor in their split. I can tell George had a little buzz going on. He was a very bad, violent, alcoholic at that time. Britt’s smile can heal the world.
George Jones was a country legend singer songwriter from the 50's-80's. He struggled with alcoholism & drugs during his life. He was married at one time to fellow country music singer Tammy Wynette & they had some great duets together. He had so many hits such as "White Lightnin'", "We Must Have Been Out Of Our Minds", "Love Bug", "Things Have Gone to Pieces", "The Race Is On", "My Favorite Lies", "I'll Share My World With You", "Take Me", "A Good Year For The Roses," "If My Heart Had Windows" & many others.
Okay a couple of things here. George, was as drunk as a skunk during this performance. George and Tammy had a love for the ages. Always love those two together
Some of the best duet harmonies ever. And you can see the sparks flying. Talking about holding a note at a special point in a song, check out the bluegrass "Pretty Polly" with Ralph Stanley and Patty Loveless. Interesting lyrics, too. Stanley is a bluegrass giant (though he's not very tall ;-)
George and Tammy were great duet partners and figured out how to be friends again after their divorce. George and his wife Nancy were among the first to arrive at Tammy's house after she passed. His wife Nancy stuck by him and he finally turned his life around for the better. It is very hard dealing with an alcoholic
Love ya Britt please react to Things Have Gone to Pieces and Still Doing Time 2 big George Jones hits and also If Drinking Don't Kill Me (The live version where he mentions Tammy at the end) you won't be disappointed....Thanks for your reactions 💓💓
This is a time when they were having issues toward one another it was more to it than the his drinking problem which mostly everyone thinks so but that isn’t the full case in there marriage at all hope ppl check out and find this out for themselves for most of the time George gets the biggest blame when it’s just untrue which it did play a factor in it as Tammy was the only one to keep him more sober than any other woman wife in his life but yea there is a lot more to it than George and the drinking sad everyone but thinks all was on him it takes 2 and they had to many ppl in there life harming it as well along other things 😊
They were the first country music couple that their love story & exploits were in the news all the time. Her book "stand by your man" was made into a movie.
Tammy was his wife or ex-wife was the one he sang about...He Stopped Loving Her Today!! She finally had to divorce him bcuz of the drinking & just really tumultuous stuff! He almost died several times in his life as a result of alcohol, but finally let the stuff go. Now he's gone too! ❤ There both gone now. R.I.P George & Tammy!😇
It's my opinion that George Jones would hold back when singing with Tammy to not overshadow her. Tammy was an incredible singer but George was the mark by which every singer was judged. "If we could all sing like we wanted, we'd all sound like George Jones." -Waylon Jennings
They were the most beloved married couples and had mega hits. They had a troubled marriage because of his drinking and drugs. They had a daughter who they named Georgegette. They both had mega solo hits as number one top country hits. Tammy had a number of medical problems and died young. George finally got clean in the end before he died. He almost ruined his career from his addictions and was nicknamed, No Show Jones. Tammy's biggest hit was Stand By Your Man, and George's ingest was, He Stopped Loving Her Today.

George Jones was one of those entertainers that had his audience in the palm of his hands.
Yes, as has been stated, listen to them sing "Golden Ring" there's a live version of them singing it after they divorced. They were great together.
You should definitely go down the rabbit hole that is George and Tammy's music. Best Duet partnership ever!
George Jones continued to occasionally name drop her in his live performances, after their divorce.
Like one of his performances of "If Drinking Don't Kill Me".
My favorite of their duets is "Golden Ring." Really is one of my favorite songs ever. Another great duet they did is "Two Story House."
Best male/female country music duet, hands down! Lots of songs worth listening to.
No other duet partners could harmonize better than George & Tammy.
Porter & Dolly were also very good harmony together.......
Even after they divorced they never stopped loving each other. Showtime has a great 6 part miniseries about George and Tammy’s life together based on a book written by their Daughter that was so good and quite a rollercoaster ride.

those two voices together..unbeatable

Jones has a songwriting credit on a tonof songs. How many of those he had anything to do with writing is another story.

I believe you would enjoy listening to Tammy singing "D-V-O-R-C-E"
Do Conway and Loretta..."After the Fire is Gone."
George went on to marry a good woman named Nancy. It wasn't all roses. They were married for 30 years until his death.
Just heard a great song by George. The title is Hell's open all night long. I think you would enjoying the son. Looking forward hearing your reaction.

I know the guy who wrote this song. Earl “Peanutt” Montgomery. He lives here in the Muscle Shoals area. Some of his family goes to my church.
They were the first country music couple that their love story & exploits were in the news all the time. Her book "stand by your man" was made into a movie.
Dad who knew them personally felt they put that out when word of this divorcing got out. They song was to refute that "rumor".
Check out the Showtime series George & Tammy, for their life story. Tragic 😢
Dig up Golden Rings
Stand by your man.
FYI - Tammy Wynette’s last name is pronounced with the emphases on the first syllable - WY nette.
It's actually We're Gonna Hold On. Tammy and George were married for 6 years, and recorded 10 albums worth of materials.
5:11 do you mean "Stand By Your Man", which was her signture song.
Hey i just wanted to say try watching their video called ONE i think it was their last song together in 1995 it's really good
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill is our generation of George of Tammy.

Tammy and George were married and it lasted 6 yrs , they ad a daughter named Georgette.
You should react to Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash singing “Nashville”. More chemistry between a married couple.
They were married at the time this song was recorded.
You need to watch Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn lead me on
You probably meant "Stand by your man" by Tammy Wynette.
Thank you for your video. Can you make the video that you’re watching a little easier to see we want to enjoy the video with you as well.
They were married it to each other at one time they both passed
They were husband and wife there. Listen to Tammy Wynette sing D-I-V-O-R-C-E after they split up.
They were married from 69 to 75..
This was before DIVORCE.
They were once married
Its hard to believe that he used to beat her senseless.
It’s probably when they were married
I think they were married twice
Tammy Wynette deserved better than the way George Jones treated her.

We all know George was hard drinker back in the day... and apparently a nasty drunk........so sad
