      Everyone is speculating, and as far as the show goes, they didn’t button up the business. We know that, but Channing is still on to something with his view point. Go look at the analytics on both shows. It speaks for itself. He right about knowing your value, and I stand on that. Check the views on this channels previous vids. Also, Jay split the vids into segments, and check out those views.

    Bro! This was an amazing interview! He asked all the questions that I've wanted to ask. I've always enjoyed I Am Athlete. I was perplexed, disappointed and frustrated when the guys split. I've been even more frustrated by the vague answers they give when talking about he split. I'm happy Jay pressed him for straight answers. What I take from hearing Channing's version and Brandon's version, I can conclude that Channing was wrong in this situation from a business standpoint. He has his personal views and he should stand by them but he can't expect a business owner that invested all the money, and took all the initial risk to ever do an even split with him. What he didn't mention was that Brandon have him the option to invest and he chose to take a per episode payment, but once the show blew up, he wanted to see the numbers. That's not how business works, but it's no problem with him understanding his worth and wanting to be paid accordingly, but the one who puts up the money and take the risk, makes the rules...

    Channing is absolutely correct. You don’t do business deals without knowing your percentage period. It’s even more of a point not knowing what the business is making as a whole because you can’t evaluate the big picture correctly. Bottom line know your worth because if you don’t I promise you other people will take advantage an lowball your ass every time. I’m currently in a business with a childhood friend an I can tell you for sure being 100 percent transparent is the best thing you can do. Now I will say if Brandon invested everything money wise he deserves a slightly bigger cut because he took the whole risk initially in my opinion. If it goes under I doubt they would of have him any money back in return on some real real shit. However this is why it’s important to have all this worked out before you ever start anything so it don’t get messed up.

      I got into a business and the guy I was partnering with would never talk about the percentage. He'd always try to change the subject or just say "don't worry ima take care of you" and blah blah blah. I started getting skeptical and sure enough a few months into it once the money started rolling in and he was buying all kinds of new stuff meanwhile I was stuck with a regular salary check (that wasn't that much). So I asked him about getting my cut of the profit and the MFer said to me "I'm the one who built all this, this is my money"... I never wanted to knock somebody out so bad but that over the phone so I called him every word I could think of and then some and walked out leaving "his" business empty and unlocked and didn't tell him 😂😂😂
      I saw him years later and threw a fake punch at him as he walked by me at the mall. He flinched like a bitch and kept walking and I said yeah that's what I thought. Doesn't get my money back or make anything right but damn it felt good to see him scared for a second like that lol.
      Anyway moral of the story is NEVER trust somebody who won't talk the percents upfront before u start anything with them. It'll NEVER end well.

    Channing is ignoring the high yield high reward notion. Yes, a 10% ROI is unheard of. However, he took 0 risk. No risk AT ALL. If it flopped, he would've walked away without a loss. This is straight business talk. Any OA will show a breakdown of interest. In this instance, IAA will show 100% Brandon Marshall. Meaning, for anything he would more than likely be solely liable. How does it make sense for Channing to look at the result and say "nah im worth more than that". OK, well you didn't see the worth enough from the jump to offer and initial investment? Its easy to sit there and say "well now that this is the result, lets return BA to a reasonable profit and start from 0". Nah, thats not how things work. A lot of sport podcasts have not blown up so its unfair to say it would eventually blow to where its at.

He was buying a bunch of equipment for his gym and made it seem like he had to buy the production stuff anyway. B had plans for them to be partners and told them that because they built with him from day 1. Sweat equity has a value! I wasn’t in the room when the deal was made so I’m going by what each person has stated.
    Marshall tends to provide numbers on how much he invested initially and over time. He also mentions profit sharing (partnership) versus taking a standard fee per show.
    I haven’t heard Fred or Channing mention how much they invested but I hear Channing asking for at least 15% of profit. These arguments will make more sense when people hear how much was invested by Channing and Fred. When it comes to business and partnership, the output is based on the proportion invested. Anything over that investment is profit sharing. If you invest 8% to start, it doesn’t make sense to break off 15% before the initial investment is recouped. Equal profit is out the window at that point.

      It’s hilarious of the person who didn’t put nothing up front to try to be the one to dictate this “let’s start from ZERO” nonsense… easy to be said by them. I was leaning more toward Fred n Channing before this interview.. this wasn’t a good look. Also Channing doesn’t know the difference between entrepreneur and stock investment. A 10% return is the gold standard for the STOCK game, not business. Him setting a line there showed his hand. Just using the numbers he presented, it sounds like they were trying to get over Brandon instead of the other way around (like I thought before. I thought Brandon was running that Joe Budden bs)… let’s break it down
      • Brandon puts up the entire initial investment of $100k (just using the simple numbers given) and Brandon also is the one who assembles the cast, crew, and equipment. Brandon also was the one with the prior recognizable brand and pre-established platform that he’s been working on n building since his on-field football days
      • Fred and Channing come in without the burden of funding the venture nor the need for any prior branding (outside of the obvious football cache they had, which doesn’t immediately translate over to media)
      • The company goes on to make 3x its initial investment, so $300k (as presented by C).
      … Channing now is saying Brandon should be only entitled to a 10% return as if it were a stock? So he’s saying of the 300k pot … Brandon should only be looking to get $110k, which simple deduction lends itself to Fred n Channing n Ocho splitting the remaining $190k 3-ways even (so about $63k each). If your simple minded that seems fair. Brandon gets 110 (37%), Fred 63 (21%), Channing 63 (21%), Ocho 63 (21%). The problem lies where you remember Brandon is starting off in the red 100k bcuz he was the one put up the initial 100… so that leaves him with only $10k in actual profit after the year is over where as his members all taking home over 6x that (bcuz they don’t have an initial investment to recoup) and he was the one who put in the lion-share of building the damn thing. That’s completely nonsensical and unfair. And the whole idea that Channing can now demand to ‘return to zero’ after the risk in the initial investment is resolved is shady too.. like I said, I was on their side at first bcuz they seemed way more genuine but after hearing him talk a bit it sounds like he let his own ignorance with a bit of ego mixed destroy what was built n strain his friendship

    • @ez6888
      @ez6888 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Now the return to zero nonsense (which Channing brought as his response to the obvious critique in his point) is just Channing thinking he gets to decide when Brandon’s initial risk is valuable in the breakdown discussions. He wants him to take his initial investment back from the profit get his 10% on top (so $210k out of the $300k n then the 3 others split the rest, 30k each for the first year) and just act like they are back to zero from there and split even from then on (so if they make 300k again, all 4 gets $75k)… NO BUSINESS works like that, NONE. That initial risk + being the one to spearhead the project is literally what affords Brandon his higher percentage throughout the duration of the product run. That risk worth more than just the initial amount put in… that’s the whole point of taking the risk in the first place. It’s a gamble. A measured gamble, but a gamble nonetheless. That’s the whole point of the entrepreneurship game, go big to win big. Ofcourse Brandon plate is gonna be larger bcuz he is entitled a larger plate from the meal (the meal being the product, the show). Now if Fred n Channing were actually business minded like they act like they are.. they would of work out a way to have grander stakes in any expansion the company does like maybe working more closer with the other project in the I AM series (like the one with the NBA players or the women) or make the Pivot as a show under the I AM umbrella which then would earn them a seat at the big boy table and maybe they can start talking that equal share nonsense. But that’s not what they did. They (and Brandon) just started getting emotional and disrespecting each other (Channing’s words) and blew the whole thing up
