  • The garmin forerunner 610 is a great watch for the money cosidering the features it brings to the table above the more entry level watches. This isn't to say that those watches aren't great, but in this review I will show you some of the features that make this watch great along with a few problems it has, which are very few. The touchscreen on this watch is great and has just the right amount of responsiveness without being too snappy or too laggy. The backlight is incredibly bright and the build quality of the forerunner 610 is simply amazing. Overall this fr 610 would get a 9/10, as I would like to see the price fall considering how old this watch is, but this could be seen as a good thing as despite it's age it still commands a high price due to it's rich feature set.
I would recommend this watch as a first step into the world of heart rate training and also any multi sports people as the cycling functions on this watch are a simple substitute for a cycle computer on your hand or handlebar mounted.

How do garmin describe their watch:
Touchscreen GPS running watch that records your pace, distance, GPS position, heart rate, calories and more; HRM included.
Race against previous bests and compete with a virtual partner over a set distance/time; plus view, replay and share your workout for free online at Garmin Connect
Vibration alerts, customisable for time, distance, calories, heart rate or cadence
HotFix satellite prediction finds satellites quickly so you can start running straight away
Premium soft strap heart rate monitor calculates calorie consumption based on heart rate fluctuations; waterproof (IPX 7)

This is so far the best review for Garmin Forerunner 610 I have seen. Very detailed and really helpful. I need a cheaper GPS watch from Garmin with basic training features for running and this one seems satisfactory according to your review. Thank you!

Great review. Can see having it on mountain biking possibly an issue with the large bulky main unit not wrapping around the wrist properly.

    Hi great review thanks
Was just wondering, if I am just wearing my watch to tell the time, each time I activate the watch and unlock it, it automatically switches on GPS, is this correct?

with all the problems people have even today with reliability and gps accuracy with the 620 (or all Garmin watches since they changed the gps chipset) this even seems to be the better watch. Just bought it for 119 EUR on sale - even cheaper than the 10, 15 or new 25...
Also note that you can not get current pace from the foot pod with the 620 and some other features of the 610 are not available. Thanks for the review!

+LuteandTheorbo I'd agree it's a great watch without the bells and whistles of the current range, although sometimes I do wish it would lock onto satellites a bit sooner but nothing leaving it outside before running can't fix!

+Shiny Shoes Tech Yes, one of the reasons I also got one of the new FR 230. Also because of the slightly better GPS and Bluetooth etc. However, I still tend to use the 610 for most racing and the 230 for most of the training. The build quality of the 230 feels very cheap by the way. Still waiting for the perfect running watch to come out :-) Anna

@@ShinyShoesTech Totally agree about GPS locating. Otherwise it’s served me well having in my run kit.
I will probably upgrade before years end.
Best review I’ve seen for the 610!
      Cheers mate! 👍🏾🇦🇺

Awesome review. Just one thing , does this work with smart phones? Can you pair it to a phone and do the auto upload that way to Garmin Connect or does it need to be only to a PC?
    Thanks

I bought the 610 a couple of days ago, read some reviews stating that it was not possible but my Garmin syncs with Android phones without problems and activities are instantly uploaded onto Garmin Connect and Strava, only thing you need is a smart phone with integrated ANT+ chip (in my case Wileyfox Swift for 90 GBP) and i also had to download an app from the Play store for 3 EUR.
If you are unsure if your phone has an integrated ANT+ chip check the and ANT web site, although some devices still has it but are not ANT certified and thus not listed, but you can also download free app that checks whether you have ANT+ support.

Agree that you have to a phone with ANT+ chip built in to it. Do a Google search and it lists what phones have it. Then, you have to install the APPs for it.
