    After a lot of experimentation on terrible scissors, I have found a different technique that works for me. I take the scissors apart, when I can, and use a coarse stone on the beveled part to refresh the toothy edge. I then us a fine stone gently on the flat. I try to keep my strokes 90 degrees to the edge. It is the toothy edge that is the key.
    I am not saying it is a better approach, any technique that works is a good technique. Scissors are tricky to sharpen and the pivot wears out over time so replacement is always a good option too.

    Have you ever come across a tapered ceramic rod for sharpening serrations?
    I have one of the tapered Diamond “pen” files but am looking for basically the same thing but ceramic.
    Any suggestions? Can’t seem to find many small ceramic options.

    I use the corner of an Amazon box for serrations , Great for finishing a blade, for normal knives use the box as a stone like you would. It’s really fine cardboard pulp. It’s good.

    Since serrations are essentially cut in a chisel grind angle, is this how you sharpen a plain edge chisel grind also? Like sharpen the non-beveled side? Basically lay it flat then angle it up about one degree, or do you sharpen the beveled side?

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No you should do the bevel side on a chisel blade, even though these are chisel ground its better to sharpen them a little different you would have to remove way more steel, the bevel is easier on a knife

    Ok I'm confused here I've seen some vids that show where the ridge side of the scissors is that , that is the side they sharpen with a back words stroke .
    Now you are showning something totally different that the inside of the scissors is the side to sharpen with a back n forth motion.
    So witch is the right way???

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically both, the flat side is an easy way to doit, the angled way will have to be done eventually or if theres massive damage, the point is to make a new edge by creating a burr then removing it, you can also sharpen using sand paper with backward strokes

  • @greekveteran2715

    Never sharpen scissors, on the inside, IF you can't get them apart, to also touch the pivot area the same time, you touch the rest of the blade. That's becausel eventually, you'll make the scissors to not touch together as they should, which is all about how the scissors work. If you can not get the apart, touch only the smaller edge bevels on the other sides, by putting them perfectly flat on a ceramic or stone, and druging tem slowly without much pressure. If you CAN get the 2 blades apart, then sharpen both the edge bevels and the inside, but be sure,that the pivot area also touches the stone,to remove steel evenly from all the surface of each blade.

      Thank you for speaking up about this and you are exactly right. I've learned some great tips from this channel, but this is not the right way to sharpen these types of scissors. Everyone makes mistakes though and it's part of the sharpening journey.
