What makes Gojira so different from the other metal bands? - Two brothers playing in perfect symbiosis - A unique & great sound - Maybe the best metal drummer of the last decade - No endless and pointless guitar solo - The French touch - Real raw power
Simply this: In the entire history of all music, any drummer outside Mario Duplantier has incorporated these kind of jazzy ghost notes on the snare while you only want to headbang to death. He is literally a genius, how he incorporates that style within this genre. Is not prog metal, and still fucks my mind. I hate that in the studio version you cant almost hear it... Even mike portnoy or other prog metal drummers didnt have that idea, is just mind blowing. You can have a top 10 original guitarrists, singers, bassists etc. in this genre. But there is only a top 1 drummer and he is Mario Duplantier
Funny you say that, because this festival, back in 2010, was a Jazz Festival, even mainstream When Gojira started playing at the closure of this one, they "basically lost 90% of the audience"
Yep, they have been known to work along with great sound engineers that know they music pretty well. They've been doing this since I first saw them in 2003 (at least), I think they are really pikcy about this.
This is a prime example of a band whose members are each a master of their given craft, Usually You will notice bands that come out and the drummer , er the guitarist stands out amongst the others...Not in this case, These Dudes have got something special and Im suprised it took them so long to get noticed back then.
Simply the best metal band to have ever existed. I bet when they opened for Metallica, Lars and James and to place their underwear in the wash as they probably shit themselves.
@@Blaze9able Yeah, of course I have. But I don't count him. I know he was the master of the riff, but he still had a gigantic blues influence. He had very slow and wandering riffs that sound great, but aren't fully metal imo. James was the first to create fast, precise and complex riffs that are the basis for metal bands (like Gojira) today. Nobody was doing what he was back then (I'm talking ride the lightning / master of puppets / and justice for all time-frame). Iommi was heavier then what was out at the time but that's about it.
I was just introduced to Gojira yesterday [by someone I'm now going to consider a great friend for this] - this stuff is absolutely amazing. Why I never listened to them before is beyond me.
Serpent of light, movement of the soul Crawling stately along the spine Mighty phoenix, from the ashes arises Firebird cycle, life, regenerate the cell Life burns fierce, reduced to ashes Resurrection from the flame, ageless process Quest for absolution, out of bounds introspect Self-consuming womb, ever-present, meet no end It seems like I always knew this Since I'm a child I can feel it My inner light everlasting Revolving within a circle Extended wings I'm flying Over the valleys and planes The curve of space I'm leaving Death is just an illusion Oroborus symbol of eternal life Dig a tunnel through light, through ignorant walls I'm counting the days but I'm dying Grow up with impatience I'm falling down On the peaks of radiant mountains This truth is growing before before me My attention fixed on this silence Rediscover life while I'm breathing Designing the shape of material Frozen icon distant reminder Mankind has forgotten the gateways By the mouth of the serpent regenerate
Gojira is for me the definition of what a metal band should be. Brutal music and performance, just pure intensity and pure feelings. The meanings in the lyrics...They got something to say compared to so many metal bands; Something that really matters. A charismatic singer, guitar player, bass player and drummer. Their involvement with what happens with the ecology, etc. They deserve high respect from the whole metal community. Gojira rules.
Apachoid one heck of a country to be living in. My country’s been infested with more-female-looking than women, make-up wearing group of K-pop group and it feels like you need to clean your ears with a shovel after hearing those garbage.
OROBORUS *First song from “The Way of All Flesh,” it is a song very regularly played live.* *It features riffs played with tapping, a guitar technique involving using two hands to fret the notes instead of one.* serpent of light *The Oroborus (or Ouroboros) is an ancient symbol of regeneration featuring a snake in a circle consuming its tail. This symbol embodies regeneration or rebirth, similar to a phoenix, but contrary to a phoenix there is no definite start or end to the Oroborus; it is eternal.* movement of the soul crawling stately along the spine mighty Phoenix from the ashes arises firebird cycle of life, regenerate the cell *In this album, Gojira deal with the impending nature of death and its effects on spirituality and nature alike. Hence, in this line, we see the juxtaposition of ‘Firebird’ (a Phoenix, a spiritual symbol) and ‘Cell’ (scientific term). As before, these lines deal with regeneration.* life burns fierce, reduced to ashes *Life burns fierce in its eternal regeneration. It is reduced to ashes, which carries on with the theme of the album (especially prominent in the title track, The Way of all Flesh).* *Continuing with the phoenix motif, a phoenix is “reduced to ashes” when it dies. However, it is reborn from those same ashes in order to live anew.* resurrection from the flame *This line continues the imagery of Phoenixes and rebirth from flames. The life cycle of the phoenix, in essence, is self-consumption through flame and rebirth from the ashes.* ageless process quest for absolution, out of bounds introspect *Introspection is defined as the examination of one’s own thoughts or feelings, and hence while the soul, or person in question, is ‘out of bounds’, it still observes its own thoughts.* self-consuming womb *The womb is the organ in which pregnancy occurs (this album features a multitude of relatively scientific/biological terms). Hence, a self-consuming womb will always consume, or destroy the soul that it creates. However, carrying on with the theme of rebirth in this song, the self-consuming womb will live again in a never-ending circle - an oroborus.* ever-present, meet no end *Omnipresence or ever-presence denotes a state of existence in which a being will always be present. In this case, the omnipresence of the soul will meet no end.* it seems like I always knew this since I'm a child, I can feel it *The protagonist of the song has always known that their soul is in a state of endless regeneration. This continues the theme of regeneration, and possibly is a reference to Hindu mysticism wherein the state of life and the being is in perpetual regeneration. The theme of Hindu mysticism in this album is continued with Yama’s Messengers.* my inner light everlasting revolving within a circle extended wings I'm flying over the valleys and planes the curve of space I'm leaving *The wings in these lines may refer to:* *The ‘literal’ Wings of the Phoenix.* *A metaphor for the journey of the soul over the earth, perhaps reaching a higher spiritual plane. This links to the next line, ‘leaving the curve of space’.* death is just an illusion oroborus symbol of eternal life dig a tunnel for light through ignorant walls I'm counting the days, but I'm dying grow up with impatience, I'm falling down on the peaks of radiant mountains this truth is growing before me my attention fixed on this silence rediscover life while I'm breathing designing the shape of material frozen icon distant reminder mankind has forgotten the gateways by the mouth of the serpent regenerate
This song shows very well how Gojira is different from all the other bands. Also love their drumwork, VERY, VERY confident drumwork, standing like a brick wall, while still being very groovy!
these guys create such a brutal and beautiful atmosphere. You can actually feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. Incredible what audio can do to a person
Just Friggin Awersum! Flawless show. Almost hard to believe its not just the album playing lol. The sound producer was great and these guys Tirelessly played Crisp!
Simply awesome! is that really a telecaster? damn! The song on album sounds great especially the drums are heavy even the whole album is damn good and going back to the opening part it's really hard to believe that it's playable! I'm in love with this song! \m/

Pantera? I know it doesn’t fit the whole description but 4/6 of them
I agreed but actually also like guitar solo tho
You just described Lamb of God (Minus the French touch)

"The French touch", I can't define it but I know exactly what you mean. Anorexia Nervosa has plenty of it
Th opening for Oroborus has to be one of the most awesome riffs ever created .WHole song is awesome really . \m/
Also I love Born in winter's tapping riff.
Demonblade777 One of my favorite tapping riffs. Pretty simple but so fun to play on guitar
Crazy to think Joe actually sings when he play the similar riff later in the song. Absolute beast
May the man with thy shortest hair head bangeth the hardest..

Jean-Michel Labadie my friend! The most energetic bass player to ever live :¬D He was the one I was getting hyped from when I saw them yesterday!

By far...one of the best bands in the past 15 years.
Gojira is like a "Daily Vitamin"...I need it once a day to keep me going.
Joe has such an addictive energy. The intense, raw passion he has while performing is amazing. True stage presence.
They sound amazing live, they're so good. Perfect tone and playing
Also their sound guy must be amazing.

Telecaster has never been so metal
+Elia Mirandola Listen to Wintersun's first album named ''Wintersun''
ok man i'll get into that
+Onur Hunuma That telecaster is made for metal im pretty sure, its made by a japanese company called Tokai i believe but e tele nonetheless.
+Torry Michelsen
It's not "made for metal", but it was modded with a Duncan Tele-sized humbucker in the bridge.
+Elia Mirandola All mahogany through with EMG ative, its 100% metal, just design telecaster.
Their best song. Gives me chills.
Its awesome! They sound perfect, even better then the recorded album!
Got to be one of the best bands around. In my top 10 for sure...
Mario , greatest drummer hands down,.
For me it goes Matt Garstka and then Mario, both phenomenal

What did that telecaster eat in the morning? People? Live people?
Mario's t-shirt
Not a telecaster.
maybe another telecaster
Looks like that one has a humbucker on the bridge? If so, I would guess he toggled it full on.
The guitar is actually a Charvel but yes it has the Telecaster style.
IMO the Live performances are what makes this band... The power and energy is phenomenal.
love love love is all I can say. so much talent. such good music. truly an art form
How are their live mixes so consistently flawless!?
i love the drums !!!
A most wonderful monster of sound and vision... intense, breathtaking and most of all totally unique!
