I was lucky as an American that i and everyone else got to see this show. TopGear was huge in America. It was our childhood and me and my siblings loved it. 500 million viewers world wide is insane ya’ll
Wait fr??? I'm learning English to be able to understand what they said in top gear and now I'm an interpreter. Top gear literally changed my whole life
The one thing that stuck with me since this episode is Jeremy calling the Veyron "not just the best car that's ever been made, but very possibly the best car we'll see in our lifetime". I think he's right.
This was definitely one of my favorite episodes! The ending in particular was great. The lighting of them running down the hallway, Jeremy sipping his beer and then James nodding off... too funny!
11:38 “I’ll never experience that power again” about a decade later Clarkson would go on to drive the Bugatti Chiron to hardlaunch his second wife in a different car programme
Hands down one of the best Top Gear races ever, and one of the best episodes ever. SO glad this was one of the first episodes I ever saw that got me hooked.
For those who are unaware, it's not uncommon for ATC to grant light aircraft permission to enter otherwise congested airspace, granted you stick to a very specific route and altitude, given by ATC. I know this from flying with a CFI friend in the San Francisco area. We were able to fly up the 280 freeway into the SF Bay, and San Francisco Airport was routing aircraft around us. It was an experience.
God, I remember getting this on DVD for Christmas off Mum and Dad when I was a young lad, I took it round to my nans on Christmas Day and after dinner we all watched it, and then I must have rewatched it about 15 times that year 😂 such great memories.
This is one of the best episodes of Top Gear in my opinion! Now i miss the Top Gear race with the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren because that is an amazing car too!
I had never watched Top Gear and had decided I would hate it; I thought it was this dry old programme about cars. My best mate made me watch this race and I was absolutely hooked. For men of a certain age Top Gear / the Hamster / Jez and Captain Slow became a sort of part of our young adult lives. I really miss those days.
2:03 good to know that the Cessna was being piloted by none other than 2013 Moto3 world champion Maverick Viñales and 2007 Formula 1 world champion Kimi Räikkönen.
I know they stacked the deck super hard against that 182 in this race, and it probably tricked a lot of people into thinking light airplanes are slow, and I should really hate it for that… But this is still one of my favorite episodes.
This was my favourite of them all… I must’ve watched this particular episode over a hundred times as a kid, closing my eyes pretending I was behind the wheel of a Veyron. Well, the reality… and the closest I’ve got to owning a Veyron is a MK1 Audi TT, far from it in other words😂 I really miss Top Gear.
I agree with Jeremy. It would be nice to have a Veyron like this. But it's a real shame that almost no one can afford this beast. I have the same problem with the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. I had the opportunity to drive it in the center of Warsaw in the evening in 2015. The memories are still vivid. But the feeling is the same as after Veyron's victory. Sure, you can have a 1/18 or 1/43 scale model, but owning a real car is very satisfying.
What's doubly hilarious about all this is that he doesn't have a clue how DEFCON works. Defense Condition 1 is the worst it can be. He's got it ass-backwards.
It's pretty amazing that while Jeremy was giving it the beans in the worlds fastest production car, the camera crew were managing to keep pace and even pull ahead in their range rovers!
It's too bad this part started after what I felt was the funniest part of the race--that being the Captain and Hamster having to fly around the Alps via Nice.
Funny thing is that if they did this race even a few years latter, Hammond and May would have almost certainly won due to High Speed 1 being finished and terminating at St. Pancras instead of Waterloo.
Clearly fixed, no one and I mean NO ONE takes a London bus from Waterloo when the tube is running until late! This is ridiculous! You simply go from Eurostar platforms to the tube station. FFS
Which big race would you like to see next?
Mercedes SLR - race to Oslo ;)
the first half of this Bugatti race. need to show the full cut.
330d 24hr race
I second rhe 330D 24 hour race.
I Had The Full Race On My Old TikTok Channel I Might Upload It Again 😈
I think this is possibly, *the* definitive Top Gear race. Everything about this challenge was done so well.
Such a classic race this one. Its childhood memories for me
I was thrilled by those races car vs public (other means) of transport. Then it happened. And you know which car lost it the first?
@@truecamvidea5881 The GT500 lost. Don't blame the car, blame the French.
To me it was really the one that set the standard.
The best Top Gear race… in the world
the boys calling Richard "hamster" never gets old

There was an American as well as an Australian top gear show as well, not as funny and interesting as the original trio though
Hammond: “James has just told me that he hasn’t done the test that allows him to drive the plane at night”

At least you learn something.
Before doing a race from Italy to England, make sure you’re qualified for day and night flying.
The one thing that stuck with me since this episode is Jeremy calling the Veyron "not just the best car that's ever been made, but very possibly the best car we'll see in our lifetime". I think he's right.
Wow...This EPISODE is nearly 20 YEARS old but where have them years gone?? Damn..
This was definitely one of my favorite episodes!
The ending in particular was great. The lighting of them running down the hallway, Jeremy sipping his beer and then James nodding off... too funny!
I love the thumbnail picture, Richard is the best advertising for these videos
the “we’re gonna die” face
He looks like Xqc
11:38 “I’ll never experience that power again”
about a decade later Clarkson would go on to drive the Bugatti Chiron to hardlaunch his second wife in a different car programme
now that power you can experience even in Tesla S Plaid
@@kuba6538 nazi horsepower doesnt even come close to the bugatti's W16
I just love how done with james Richard was
The cinematography in this episode is incredible by today's standards, let alone for 2005.
“He’s got a Bugatti, we’ve got a bus”
"It's James May and he's actually running on television!"
One of the best episodes
Hands down one of the best Top Gear races ever, and one of the best episodes ever. SO glad this was one of the first episodes I ever saw that got me hooked.
He's got a Bugatti, we've got a bus !😂😂
I see no problem, both starts with a "B" :P

Thanks Jeremy,James and Richard for giving me and millions wonderful entertainment alongwith unforgetable memories. Thank you very much😢

I was maybe 10 years old watching these and still remember like I saw them yesterday
My all time favourite Top Gear race.

James May running on television!
This was the best show on TV. I will miss it always.
"YOU UNBEARABLE MAN!"
The greatest race Top Gear ever made.
This episode will be 20 years old this December I was 15 when this was first broadcast 😢
One of my favorite episodes
11:44 James being old man back in 2005.
0:14 and 5:09 Iconic moment.
20 years of Bugatti Veyron in 2025.
2:03 good to know that the Cessna was being piloted by none other than 2013 Moto3 world champion Maverick Viñales and 2007 Formula 1 world champion Kimi Räikkönen.

God this show was so good. I really miss it.
Don't want to make anyone feel old, but the Veyron is 20 years old this year.
This episode literally made the Veyron the most famous car in the world.
0:55 I love a refreshing cup of 'hot brown' too.
I’ve discovered that Jeremy usually wins
Jeremy in a car vs James and Richard in a non-car. Probably my favourite kinds of races in this show :)
4:54 One of Jeremy's best laughs ever 😂

the music originally used in the montage from 5:05 is Hybrid: Finished Symphony
Thank you
I don’t understand why they changed the music
@@Icecreamman-n7z probably copyright issue. The music used when this 1st aired on tv was much better.
@ it was absolutely much better
3:28 Jeremy doing Defcon Backwards.
Captain Slow falling asleep at the end hahaha
This is the show that made me love cars in my childhood.
While everyone was busy watching cartoons, I spent most of my time watching Clarkson.
Watch this with the whole family back when most people only had a TV with five channels. Everyone in secondary school was talking about this.
I agree with Jeremy. It would be nice to have a Veyron like this. But it's a real shame that almost no one can afford this beast.

Dr Piech's masterpiece!
I remember the episode were Jeremy said Bugatti would never build the Veyron and it looked ridiculous. 😅
Best advertisment for public transport ever made.

yeah, it only works the way Jeremy said if he means putting the spoiler down so he can go faster is less threatening to him
@@ZoeMalDoran In other words, it doesn't work that way lol
It seems to be a broad misconception though. And yet there doesn't seem to be any definitive answer as to how so many of us have it backwards.
@@MFKR696 very true - and I clearly credited Clarkson with too much sense

The DEFCON scale counts down, not up.
The other two making fun of James at the end really brings the whole thing together doesn't it

The fastest car vs the slowest man. This was over before it began 😂

Let’s be real, the plane James and Richard flew was basically the aeronautical equivalent of a vw golf. Still a great episode though.
Top Gear Classic uploading a Classic.
Tyler Hoovie would like this episode.
"I'll never experiance that power"
little did he know...
Oh the good old days and that's less than twenty years ago! How did everything go so go wrong so quickly?
It's too bad this part started after what I felt was the funniest part of the race--that being the Captain and Hamster having to fly around the Alps via Nice.

why start from after James & Richard having to go south to avoid the Alps?

Is S3E6 down to fix the audio mixing?
I just looked up the plane and it was written off in 2011 when the nose wheel detached during landing. Sad!
crazy thing was, jeremy had to keep slowing down to wait for the camera car to catch up

How much did jeremy win by?
Ah yes, the good old times when we drove planes, flew boats and left bottles filled with suspiscious yellow liquid in the Euro Tunnel ^^
Was there ever an episode where the Hamster and Capt Slow won a race?
