    Thanks guys for all the tips. I took your advice on getting better depth by increasing threshold and reducing the recovery speed and went out behind my barn to give it a try and got a good signal right away on land I've gone over a bunch of times and found a dime! It was clad but I was still excited as the ground still has frost and the 2024 is just beginning. I'm hoping for a successful year with the Legend if I can get out enough. I appreciate your videos and enjoy your snappy sense of humor! I did my first detecting with a Heathkit build it yourself detector down in New Jersey in the mid 1970's with my pal JT in Morris County. Mostly looking for old coins at old schoolyards. Didn't find all that much but my appetite was whetted for metal detecting. Finally picked up my own detector in the late 1990s as I live on an old place in Maine that dates to 1803. Have found some cool stuff but have had the most fun since I picked up the Simplex and then the Legend. Great machines for the money! Your tips and hints are very much appreciated and I hope you guys come across some killer finds in the days ahead.

      Hey old dude! Thanks for the kind words and sharing your story. Love Maine, visited Acadia and Portland last summer and can't wait to get back up there. Metal Detecting can certainly be addictive. Wish you luck when that ground defrosts!

    Excellent, informative presentation on coil/depth comparisons.
    Following up on some commenters' sheer depth enhancing settings ... using, say, the LG 30 on the buried coins in Park 1/2 and Field 1/2, Recovery Speed 1, Audio Gain 6, All Metal Discrimination, Manual Ground Balance - no tracking (and do 3 'ground grabs'), Threshold ~20, wear headphones and focus on sounds - not visual - may provide surprising outcomes.
    We gold prospectors hunt for microscopic targets in - generally- less trashy areas than coin shooters in parks.
    Different, yet somewhat overlapping situations.
    I am having early success using the Legend - using multiple coils for specific functions - in my prospecting.
    Great machine, the Legend.
    Please keep up your great work.

    Did you do a depth test in park mode? Oh dear lol. Also when you lower your recovery speed you MUST slow your swing speed down at least a little lol. I still don't think it would hit the 15 inches solid even with the LG35 but it may do better than 12. These are still pretty decent results for fresh dug targets though.

    Add in some AG. It helps make those tiny whispers louder. Some people will complain that the screen doesn't show the real depth. It doesn't matter to me, I never look st the depth meter, and very seldom look at the VDI. I listen to the sounds.

    • @JerseyDigs
      @JerseyDigs  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I should have. Didn't think it through there at the end. At least it proves that more depth can be found changing those settings around. I'd like to say the sound gives away a good signal, but I do refer to VDI and depth a good amount

    • @MrBottlecapBill
      @MrBottlecapBill 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The depth meter at one bar actually IS an indicator. That means it's past the max depth the machine can calculate. So you know it's deep.

      How rich of Minelab to claim any detector company is knocking of their detectors when they've built detectors twerking technology that White's developed. For example they wanted to sue Whites over the DFX using multiple frequencies which Which called Dual frequency and infact they transmit and receive signals from those two frequencies. Minelab' multiple frequencies or their old broad band spectrum I believe is what it first came out as sent out dozens of different frequencies from like 2 - 100 kHz but only processed two frequencies so a target might be hit or charged the best for example with a 20 kHz signal but the machine is processing signal at a 4 kHz and 15 kHz in their receiving coils whereas Whites transmitted 3 kHz and 15 kHz and received it to process at 3 and 15 kHz. It's not the same technology and it gave Whites a much more accurate target ID. But back to using others technology Whites didn't steal multi frequency technology from Minelab' because Minelab' didn't invented the multiple frequency technology. Multi frequency technology was invented by Bell Telephone and it came out under their new company name AT&T. Multi frequency was used to produce different sounds in pay phones to allow an operator tell which coin was dropped in an old pay phone. If you dropped a nickel in you'd hear one tone, if you dropped in a dime it rang with another different tone using a separate frequency and if you dropped in a quarter if sounded of with yet another separate tone. This was invented in the early '60's and the patents had expired so White's didn't steal the technology and neither did Minelab' but with White's processing the same signal frequencies that it transmitted instead of sending out random frequencies and processing only two White's was more dialed in to a more accurate way of producing a reliable Target ID. In fact White's V3i was the first detector to transmit and receive 3 frequencies and all harmonically balanced.
      Sorry about typing out a mini essay I didn't know any other way to explain it in less words but I find it ironic how Minelab' cries patent infringement especially when White's has been building detectors since the '50's. Minelab' isn't even self owned anymore they're owned by a company that makes other products which haven't been profitable for years the detector business has been keeping them a float, literally. This is why they were pumping out so many versions of basically the same detector i.e. the Nox 800 which saved the company then as competition started heating up they created the Nox 700, the 600, and the 900 and finally they rushed out the Manticore without it truly having all the kinks worked out which was basically why they were so late in sending out their pre order detectors. It's not widely known but the Manticore had serious iron falsing problems and they still haven't worked it out through updates. The 900 may have less bling and no target graphing but it performs as well as the Manticore did for $500+ less so sales have been so sluggish that you can get the Manticore now for less then the 900 to get rid of the stock they've built up from sales slowing way down due to the Deus outperforming it in heavy iron ground and the Deus 2 doesn't false on big iron with a high conductor VDI like the Manticore.
      I'm sure Minelab' users aren't going to like this post so I'll just say it's only my opinion. But what is fact is Minelab' is trying to get rid of the Manticore at a heavy discount right now. Just saying 🤔🙄

    • @JerseyDigs
      @JerseyDigs  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jeanponce2017 lol that was one novel there😂 But I agree with you Minelab is in no position to get into it with other brands it's common tech nowadays available to all. Didn't know that about minelab sales, but I still think I'll hold onto my Legend. The Deus 2 and Rutus Versa(not available yet in US) have been on my list for a bit now. Seems like you truly get a superior detector for that price range. But for now, I'll keep on swinging my $500 Legend. It hasn't failed me yet!

      We entertained doing this at the beach but I can't imagine their depth capability to change too much unless you need to lower sensitivity to get stability at your beach. It seems like the coils will detect as deep as their diameter give or take an inch.

      Technology in everything is always getting better. Every company comes out with new machines regularly. It's your choice to buy them or not to buy them. You don't need to get the newest one because it come out. Just go dig. You could sell the old simplexes you probably just want too much for them. Used machines don't command close to new value unless they're in demand. Old simplexes are not in demand, there's a LOT of them out there. Just use them and find treasure. Upgrading to another simplex isn't a wise use of funds anyway. If you want to upgrade, then UPGRADE.
