To those asking why the cameraman didn't do anything for that one guy: because he's not a lifeguard and trying to help someone who's panicking like that is a great way to get yourself killed. I once had to try to rescue my little brother when he went under in a pond when we were kids and he nearly drowned us both. My mother saw what was happening and sprinted over and saved us but when someone is drowning and scared, they don't care that you're trying to help them and can't calm down, and in the process they can hold you under. The cameraman knew the professionals were almost there with the appropriate gear and experience to help the guy. He would have made the situation worse by putting himself in jeopardy.
As a former lifeguard, often good Samaritans get themselves in trouble and end up as another casualty to rescue. Often a single rescue can become a massive event if someone who doesn't know what they're doing tries to rescue someone.
I’m utterly amazed at all those out in the ocean who can’t even swim! Common sense would dictate they not venture out past knee depth. It’s admirable how these Lifeguards keep their temper under control.
Trouble is sea currents can be very strong someone can be standing knee deep get knocked over and swept out their depth very easily so it catches people by suprise.
For people commenting about the cameramen not helping: A) They follow the lifeguards' lead, so footage is from when the lifeguard is right there B) It can actually be dangerous for a person without a flotation device to try to assist a person who is struggling (especially when they are panicking like this guy was). Instinct may make the patient want to use the person rescuing them as a flotation device and basically drown the rescuer.
Absolutely and even given all that sometimes we have seen the camera people helping struggling swimmers. The crew of bondi rescue deserves a lot of credit.
I can’t understand people who go into the water when they can’t swim. Or the ones who go in fully clothed. Or the parents who don’t pay attention to their kids at all.
One of the things I really respect Terry for is his ability to talk calmly to people as he's picking them up, he can get the volume in his voice without there being any harshness is his voice. A calm tone of voice works as well on panicked people as it does on panicked animals (I say this as someone who both suffers from panic attacks, and also studies animal behaviour). For those with the knack, being able to keep your voice level in those high stress situations helps save lives (I'd be beyond useless in this, and very many other regards!) Fear is powerful, and every trick at your disposal to make people feel safe as quickly as possible is a powerful tool.

Apart from the whole “people who can’t swim going swimming” thing, I can’t get over the way that guy panicked. I’ve been in numerous emergency situations and just go cold and deal with it. You can always got to pieces later. When I was 16, my sister-in-law’s sister, who was much older than me, set fire to a tea towel by foolishly using it as a pot holder and touching it against the oven element. She ran around the kitchen in circles, screaming, holding a flaming tea towel whilst wearing a full skirt. My brother had to kind of wrestle it off her and throw in the sink while she continued freaking out. I learnt a valuable lesson that day: non panickers are lucky people.
No I get it cuz on a bike-packing trip me and our pack leader were riding along side each other when he realized we couldn't find some of the other riders. What amazing job that the @BondiRescue does about saving people there lifeguard does they need to start having life guard more every it would save more life it a really good idea
The clip of the panicked swimmer should be played on flights from all landlocked countries with subtitles. They should also be told to listen to lifeguards like you'd listen to police.
Nah, I don't think that'll help. Very few people know how to calm themselves down during emergencies like these where your life is in immediate danger. It's always fight or fight in these situations, and when the instinct to survive kicks in, it's even more dangerous. Their minds would go blank and they'll be so focused on pulling and pushing to get themselves above the water, that they wouldn't even notice that they are drowning someone. The better solution would be to show them the clips and tell them not to go past knee deep when they don't know how to swim.
Seeing the comments about the cameraman not helping... It looked pretty clear to me that he was helping? Like you can see from his own camera angle how close he was to him and then how he transferred him to the board.
I learned to swim as a child, but haven't swam since then really, maybe 20 years. I feel like my natural inclination would not to be going in to the sea or even the deep end of a pool, because I am not sure swimming is like riding a bike... Thus I assume I can't still swim 😂 what makes people go in the sea when they can't swim?
The man that was panicking was really annoying. Like you see someone helping you, why would you keep in screaming for help?? Your on a board and your okay and you keep on yelling.
That Indian guy though... what on earth?! I thought he was kidding around, I've never seen a grown man who wasn't differently abled, have that kind of freakout when he was already basically rescued. That was so bizarre.
8:28 - “Actually mate, we don’t know how to swim. That’s why.” And there you have it- the entire premise of the whole show for the next 17 seasons and counting lolololol 🤣🤷🏻♀️
I refuse to understand: you haven’t given time/money/effort to acquire the skill of swimming or understanding yourself in water, why tf are going into any large body of water?! I respect lifeguards so much - more for their patience with dunce behavior like this.
i was taught as a young child that if i cannot swim by myself i wouldnt be allowed to go anywhere near water leading to areas where i couldnt stand. it resulted in me being very motivated to learn to swim, ended up getting ABC's. then rescue swimming (with and without tools like a bodyboard and or floatation device) and then several years of diving practice. whilst i rarely would have to rescue someone where i live cause basic swimming lessons are mandatory its always handy to learn. you never know where you'll end up in life and what situations you'll end up in. wish they taught us more about rip currents and the like though

i was a single mom, going to beach in Long Beach, CA, little kids - guards would get on mic's saying,"sand throwing is a no no", hilarious, but my very young son - calls them "Right Guards". loved my little kids.
The narrator is amazing, funny and quirky.
Homie at @2:00 said imma Superman punch this wave 😭
I. Am addicted to watching this. I am In the UK can’t wait to visit xx
I absolutely love you guys! Hoppo is my fav by far lol! Hope I can travel there one day. If I didn't live in the states I would def be working my way to attempting to try out for the team because this is such a rewarding career. Yall have inspired me to want to help others the way you all do. 💜💜💜 (I've sat here and binged the first 3 seasons the last few hours lol)
What amazing job that the @BondiRescue does about saving people there lifeguard does they need to start having life guard more every it would save more life it a really good idea
Watching the lifeguards train is amazing.
Who doesn't love this show! Must be the sharks or bluebottles giving thumbs down! 🏄♀️🏄♂️👍
Love this channel so much
The indian chap sire frailing your arms like that that is exactly what you don't want to do.
I admit I’m addicted to this Chanel
Rip Terry!
@@alexshaw8167 Yeh exactly, better to test the waters in the shallow end of a non vast and powerful body of water 😂
The man that was panicking was really annoying. Like you see someone helping you, why would you keep in screaming for help?? Your on a board and your okay and you keep on yelling.
when Maxi realized he lost his guy lolll
who else is addicted to this channel
Us 😅
You are so lucky to meet the indian team I wish I were you
That Indian guy though... what on earth?! I thought he was kidding around, I've never seen a grown man who wasn't differently abled, have that kind of freakout when he was already basically rescued. That was so bizarre.
We all have it happen sometime....its a very strange feeling.
Early love the guys (and girls) keep saving lives I wanna be just like you! Hi from Scotland
8:28 - “Actually mate, we don’t know how to swim. That’s why.”
And there you have it- the entire premise of the whole show for the next 17 seasons and counting lolololol 🤣🤷🏻♀️
Honestly, if Hoppo got annoyed at me like that I'd cry
lol me too
I refuse to understand: you haven’t given time/money/effort to acquire the skill of swimming or understanding yourself in water, why tf are going into any large body of water?! I respect lifeguards so much - more for their patience with dunce behavior like this.
North Carolina loves Bondi Rescue!
2:28 Ich wusste gar nicht, dass sein Arm je draußen war. 🤫🤨🤨😂🤣😂 (Hope there's at least one person who understands that 😂😂).
Tja, was so alles am Strand passieren kann^^
Well 'Icht is I' and I think 'Nicht is not' but that's about all I can remember from my high school German lessons in the 70's😂
the more I watch bondi rescue, it just crazy to me how many people that CAN'T SWIM decided to go to into the ocean. i don't understand
Few of us understand.
17:00 what's up with the zoom? Hahaha💀
"Shes fine she just ghhshssscsss"

05:44 That kid to the right was smacked Hard by that wave in the nono spot XD
The thought of being a life guard scares the mess out of me!!!
i was taught as a young child that if i cannot swim by myself i wouldnt be allowed to go anywhere near water leading to areas where i couldnt stand. it resulted in me being very motivated to learn to swim, ended up getting ABC's. then rescue swimming (with and without tools like a bodyboard and or floatation device) and then several years of diving practice.
whilst i rarely would have to rescue someone where i live cause basic swimming lessons are mandatory its always handy to learn. you never know where you'll end up in life and what situations you'll end up in. wish they taught us more about rip currents and the like though
"I don't know how to swim"
Hey let's go swimming in the ocean...
Why....?!
My highly respect to you how you handle so much stupid people from abroad all seasons long. 🏆
LOL!!!!
I agree, those idiots make me furious.
Love when a camera man jumps in to help. I dont blame you one bit.
That moment Brooke almost gave the instructor a heart attack! 😄 🤣 😂

Aaaa these vids are so addicting to watch but I have to ask, are there times u need to save cameramen from drowning too?
