    If this was done right when the set came out, Delver wasn't worth much, so it makes sense that they'd have just stuck it back in a repack.

      It could also possibly have been done to throw people off the scent. If you open loose packs and find a delver you are far less likely to assume the packs are repacks, even if the rest of the cards are worthless.

      @ShiningDarknes 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct, that is why they have that texture, it is a little like heat-shrink. They don't use glue because there is too great a chance there might be a misalignment with a glue-dispenser and then you get a whole batch of glued cards.

    I bought an entire lot of 40 booster packs from an online vendor and every pack was super glued at the bottom. When I called them they acted like they didn't know but I told them either I dispute the charges or they make it right. They ended up telling me I could keep the packs. What's funny is some of the packs had pokemon cards in them. I suspect they bought packs at wal-mart, took the hits out and resealed them with other commons, uncommons and pokemon cards. Is there any legit honest people out there anymore?

    • @jennifer9084
      @jennifer9084 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Erick Maynard yeah they do but they can't change their real names or their emails that easily. Once you figure it out they could be blacklisted again. It seems to be working on EFour.

    • @loveandnapalm
      @loveandnapalm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's trivial to change an email and not much harder to open a paypal under a fake name. I don't doubt that it works to a degree because people that do that sort of thing tend to be fairly stupid and/or careless, but if you made it a point to cover your tracks it would be fairly easy to do.

    • @Red-Tower
      @Red-Tower 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      "Buy sealed booster boxes" is still the worst advice you can give to the general MTG community. Most players simply don't have the money to drop on whole boxes. Especially when it comes to older sets where you might find a couple packs at an LGS but not a whole box. If anything I'd say buy singles, but now those are being faked more too, right? Oh, and sometimes even boxes are resealed. Honestly, let people spend money how they want, because there is no magical perfect answer at this point.

Given that MTG vintage packs are easily searchable, I think almost all graded packs have no hits in them.

    I don't know why wizards wouldn't add a tear line so when you pull on the rear tab it tears open so it can never be resealed. I mean if they can do it with pricing labels (people used to try and switch pricing labels so they added score lines so labels come off in pieces instead of one piece) there's no reason they can't do it on card packaging.
    That's pretty scary for someone who rarely ever buys Magic Cards but still enjoys getting some every now and again. I don't think this obviously effects box purchasers unless they can tamper with the box seal... jeez. There must be a lot of profit in counterfeiting these damn things. Wizards needs to do something, and fast.

    I think they used a very thin glue tape / doublesided tape to reseal the packs. You can clearly see the difference in the top and bottom, and clearly see the tape at 9:21 in the video. If you touch the part where there is the crimp seal but not the yellow tape, i bet its not sticky. You can also hear the difference when opening the top seal and the bottom seal. So those are repacked.

    Multiple Reasons. One of which we all know by now is to sell it to TH-camrs that open MtG products on their channel.
    The Hey look I opened lottery cards equals a lot of views, likes and ups potential of new subscribers while messing with the reality of re-packs.

    I used to buy Yugioh/Pokemon/MtG packs, open them up, then replace the rares with shitty ones from my collection and use a Eurosealer to close the packs back up. Sold em 2/$5 at the comic book shop. I was like 12.

      I got about 100 boosters from about 25 sets. I'd either grab-bag draft them or sell them.

    I can't trust buying packs online ever again!!!!

    • @nekrataali
      @nekrataali 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You shouldn't buy loose packs online anyway due to mapping.
      While newer sets have gotten better at preventing mapping, it's still possible. A particularly scummy mapper wouldn't disclose their ability to do so, so a set could be already mapped and the public will never know. They could then map boxes and sell the garbage online.
      About the only time you should buy packs online is if they're explicitly marked as having been mapped and the person selling them sells them at a reduced rate. People sometimes do this so they can draft with friends. It's still frowned upon because a person could buy the mapped packs and then resell them as not mapped.

    • @jazzfunknsoul
      @jazzfunknsoul 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mapping is when you know which pack has a good rare or something worthy of it. It is often caused by factories that make the packs.

    the packs were probably resealed after the foils were weighed for. it almost looks like an adhesive spray, but it it was done a few years ago, most likely it was superglue

    this is a player repack. there are players who do this searching for specific cards. they get a couple of boxes full of packs search them for what they specifically want repack the rest then sell a fresh box.
    i know someone who did this with yugioh cards for a rare pack. he left rares in them, he just searched for a specific card(well 3 of a specific card)

  • @perfectly_unstable
    @perfectly_unstable 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm guessing they ("the repacker") were looking for specific cards and if the pack didn't have what they wanted they would repack the entire pack, and keep packs containing the cards they wanted and sold the remaining cards in a bargain bin. just my guess. this is sad considering i only started playing and if I have to play against crooks and cheats why bother even trying.

  • @dco5055
    @dco5055 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What these card companies need to do is seal the packages in a way if opened you can't just glue them back. Instead of just gluing them they can also use a welding tip or roller that has unique shapes/symbols that welds them shut so once opened it rips the package/foil. It could pretty much be done at no extra to very little cost. They could also do something with the glue that is one color but once fresh air hits it it changes after a few minutes so you know it's not been tampered.

    I used to do the same thing when I ran my own card shop. I exclusively sold cards. I should have expanded to other products... Anyway. I used to do the same thing, but CLEARLY marked them as re-packs and would build a "lucky" booster out of a batch. Of course, it would be a few cycles behind. And mostly random, but I would purposely include a high priced card. This was well before the market got saturated and new sets weren't worth much. It drummed up a good amount of business. It was fun. But re-packs were always, clearly marked.

    The problem is that at the end of the day these cards particularly the old ones are not government minted currency and thus dont have any kind of "real" counterfeiting protection so its only going to be a matter of time until they get them perfect. Thats a lot of the reason that sealed boxes went up in value so much because there lass chance of being burned.

  • @Cosper79

    The letter mentioned that card shop had new owners which leads me to believe that the owners were shady mofos who did more dirty crap then just repacks which lead them to have to sell the business.

    This is smart. People don't normally open packs from the bottom, so it will generally go un-noticed.
