Ray Ahn is an Australian national treasure. I reckon Ray could write an incredible book about the Australian alternative rock , punk, metal scene of the 80s 90s.
This is gold!!!… I haven’t heard of the hard ons since mobile phones were invented!.. I’m a Melbourne lad and watched them play many times in the late 80’s early 90’s!.. I had so much fun I can’t remember where I was?.. I think it was in Carlton?!.. my mate had to get five stitches in his head and tried to hide it from his mum!.. classic days….
The old Greek?. Or festival hall?.. (Not sure either are in Carlton… infact quite quite certain festival hall isn’t…. (I was close to the speaker stack when not in the mosh pit…) So you can probably give me a pass on knowing where I was physically..
The Hard ons were before my time but obviously being into punk, when you do your homework, they are one of the pioneers of Aussie punk rock. Everyone knows smell my finger… Frenzal Rhomb have an awesome song called “Ray Ahn is my spirit animal” Lindsay from Frenzal was shitting on everyone during covid for not being vaxxed so i have since burnt all my frenzal rhomb shit in a bonfire out the back but it’s a cool song. It’s so cool to see 2 blokes who are so passionate about music have a chat about the old days, super interesting for those of us who grew up in the 90’s & 2000’s to hear how it was. Absolutely lovin the podcast man, I love me some pissed off, angry Steve Hughes but it’s great to see the reminiscing, chilled out Steve aswell. “It wouldn’t be my arse, my arse has swastikas all over it” was the highlight of this chat. I have 4 requests: Please do a live. Please get Drew on. Please come to Perth and do a show. Please release the special. I hope this podcast never ends. So glad you’ve embraced the internet, we finally have something great to watch!! Cheers
Hard-Ons have been in my ears since the late 80's. They should have been bigger but I think they're probably too good to be huge. I fucking love this band.
Great watch that was, two blokes I've known from over 30 years ago but haven't caught up with for ages having a great chat about shit from the past Cheers for that 🤘🏽
The Accused is so obscure it was only a couple years ago I was able to find it on TH-cam. Martha Splatter Head was a great album. 10 years after cover still stands out.
Skatin' With Katon! Got Hirax's 1st demo in early 1985 & still got both the LP's & the "Blasted in Bangkok" 10". Ah, the folly of Youth ! Saw the Hard-ons in London in 1988 ! Great band !Big respect on your t-shirt too, Steve. Mass Appeal & Hellmen FOR EVER !
Hey Steve. I didn’t know you were in Presto. One of my first gigs ever as a 16 yr old at Annandale, if I’m not mistaken . With Succotash??. Could be wrong. Great interview.
Great interview and guest fascinating subject this is something that might interest you common knowledge Edinburgh music's mind control & military connections mark devlin
My mate had a rotary Mazda in 1990. We'll go from Adelaide to Sydney, could have Melburrne Got as far as Murray Bridge. It was 40c. Ended up at the Murray Bridge pool. Car broken down, and i lost my Hard On tshirt. Any y one in Murray bridge let me know if you have me shirt. I'm still miss it,
