You forgot to mention that the TIE Silencer comes with Autothrusters, which, imo makes it a must-have for new Imperial players. It's a much better value than we had when we were starting out and had to buy the Starviper to get them, lol.

The Alpha-Class-Star Wing introduced in TIE Fighter as "Gunboat" and o hell it was! It was nimble, armed to teeth and very durable. It came in the missions where it was basically down to: "You vs. a MC80 Cruiser with a full supplement of X-Wings, A-Wings, B-Wings..."
I have had my eyes on this game for years but finally broke down and got into at Christmas. Got my cousin into and he is watching your videos. I played TIE Fighter when it came out like a Religion! The Advanced, Gunboat, and Missile Boat were incredible, then the Defender. Die Hard Defender Fan Boy. I was happy when I got my Defender, lived up to my hype. I bought the Veterans pack for the TIE/D title and to have my player character from TIE Fighter in a TIE/D. Star Wing I was overjoyed! Straight out of the video game. The Advanced.. underwhelmed, even with Lord Vader.
I'm glad you mentioned that bit about just having the Gozanti for display...because that's the entire reason I want one. I'd even be willing to buy two more TIEs just so it has a full load underneath.
Kottery I’ve been playing with the Gozanti, it’s not the best combat ship. It’s better for team play. It refills and can repair so that helps out teammates using TIE fighters.
Great video! Also, you forgot to mention the Gozanti is the best epic ship in the game. I just wish it had a better upgrades for the regular game, besides the good tie pilots and amazing paint job of tie fighters.
Got Armada for Christmas and my buddy and I are loving it. Going to start getting into X-wing soon hopefully. Your videos helped us confirm the rules and learn to play. Keep it up :)

Bombs are so annoying for my Lambda/Interceptor builds. I try and support the interceptors with the shuttle but bombs get in the way a lot and dont let me get the shuttle where I want it to be. The meta right now is bothering me.
Great tips! I'm playing rebel.and Scum right now but I'm getting the itch to play imperial. This really helped me on my first step into a larger journey.
Cannot recommend a Decimator and a small ship (the veteran defender, or an alpha star wing) The Decimator can roam around and shoot at whatever. Leaving you to focus more on the small ship and keeping your target in arc.
how I wish you have done these before I bought a lot of boxes before xmas to start playing the game:( I guess I made some mistakes but oh well it is still a great game. thanks for the videos keep it up
I've played a couple of matches at the Wizard's Chest in Denver (CO). I played as Luke Skywalker to learn how, later to find out in my second match that he won a couple of tournaments using TIE swarms and the Emperor (before he got nerfed). I told him that I really like the Slave 1 and Boba Fett. However he set me up with the Slave 1, but not with Fett, I believe it was a female Mandalorian pilot who pretty much doubled up her focus actions and dropped bombs, I can't remember her name? I also fell in love with Fenn "Fun" Rau in the Protectorate (I think is the name of the ship¿), That ship is so fun to fly (he might be the first one I buy) and kills almost anything...and a Z-95 Headhunter. I can't wait to see your Scum Video. I haven't watched the Rebel video yet, but will. I like to know what my enemies are capable of? Great job on the video, looking forward to more.
I have most of those ships still need the tie striker and the inquisitor at some time i will get all of them, The tie phantom is my favorite fun ship to play along with the intercepter and defenders but i also like vader so its hard to pick which list to use. I never cared for the swarm tactics that they use to play . Keep up the great work im a recently new sub loving your content so far cant wait tell u put up the mercs they are my favorite faction.
I'm hoping for another fix for the Tie Advanced. They're coming out with yet another fix to the X-Wing (which it does need), so there's hope haha. Back before the Palp nerf I won a tourney with Vader/Inquisitor/Lambda and won the alternate art Vader. Happiest gaming moment I ever had lol. $5 entry fee ended up leaving with close to $50 bucks of prizes. Haven't played competitive since haha.
I just recently started playing with my friend running Empire and.... is there a slight favor for the rebel faction? It’s just seems like every build I set up it is impossible to beat all the rebel ships that are thrown my way. (Also, SIGN ME UP FOR THAT GIVEAWAY!!)
Wow... putting the Interceptor that far down the list... Soontir Fel is THAT AMAZING; give him Push The Limit, he can boost and barrel roll at PS9, outmaneuvering bombs with ease; dodge an arc and make a shot with free focus. Painful! He should really be a player's third purchase, right after the Aces box.
Does this hold up even after the 2.0 version comes out? I'm trying to get into the game with my brother, but we are a little bit intimidated by the conversion kits and their prices...
2.0 is different. For starters, you'll just need a 2.0 Core Set and a handful of ships. Since everything is mostly balanced in 2.0, it's veary feasible to simply get any ships that you like, and then get a conversion kit for your faction - this way you'll have a ton of content for the least amount of cash.
I want to tank you for making these videos. I've been a Star Trek Attack Wing player for over a year now and I love the game, I had been wanting to break into X-Wing but without too much money I didn't know what to buy first. After looking at your videos and some others I've compiled a list of what I'm going to buy, and while saving my list on amazon, I actually found a Force Awakens starter set on sale. With shipping it totaled around 40 something american but I figured I would not find a better price. It was like $18US before shipping so I bought it. So I guess I'm starting my collection. My next ship is either the SF-17 or the Tie Carrier Cruiser. I didn't want to make the same mistake of STAW where I keep buying inexspensive ships first so I spend hundreds of dollars and still don't have the Really Expensive ships I wanted from the get go.
Why does nobody ever comment on the Tie FO/SF tie has beefy connections at the wing panels? I can always tell a FO/SF on the table just from the beefier wing connectors.
I honestly think Imperial Huge ships havea vetter value prospect than Rebel huge ships especially since the rebel ships were first and the CR-90 had no small ship models, the only value it has in standard was C-3PO which is not as good anymore.
That's the saddest thing about this game, my favorite ships are not competitive. Fortunately, I'm not really a competitive player. But it's hard to find people to play just for fun.

For purposes of the game, the First Order is considered an Imperial sub-faction, meaning you can combine ships from both factions in an Imperial squad. Similarly, the Resistance is a sub-faction of the Rebels.
In order of importance fun, cost, and competitiveness, (As a brand new player) which of the 3 factions would be best to jump into? Sorry if this is something you’ve answered in the past.
+G PAPA Rebels do have the most iconic ships and you can get some strong lists with core set + 1/2 expansions. Scum is a cool faction too, the most expensive though.
That… is a really tough place to be. Imp aces has Carnot Jax, which is a top tier pilot. But they need Stealth Device and Autothrusters to be their best. A Royal Guard with those is a solid mid tier filter… unless you run against bombs. But you need Slave 1 and either a Star Viper or the Silencer for those. Tie Advanced is… not worth the points without the Raider fix. Vader is still Vader, but he struggles with damage. And paying nearly 30 points before upgrades for a single 2 dice attack isn't going to cut it. For casual play I've printed proxy cards just so I can put it on the table. Bomber is likewise underwhelming. Bombs weren't good, and it's only 2 dice. Imp Veterans and things like Extra Munitions make it a viable ship, but you really want the Tie Shuttle card to get the most of it. The core sets have some decent TiE Pilots, and Academy ties are the go to 12 point filler, but for you they can't really serve that role since a cheap blocker requires a hammer to do its work, and you lack that. However Dark Curse and Night Beast are favorites of mine that are hard to kill. So the reality is without buying more the best I can do would be suggest Carnor Jax and Royal Guard Pilot, each with Push the Limit, Royal Guard title, Hull Upgrade, and Targeting Computer. 64 points, and its… ok. Stealth Autothrusters is same cost and objectively better. But this can push damage, and reposition as needed. Targeting Computer is kind of a trap though, you almost always want to focus and boost/ barrel roll. But if you get a good turn the TL can be helpful. Terran Cowell with Adrenaline Rush could be subbed, and give one really good surprise turn, but it's a one trick thing. With PTL interceptors I would put a naked Epsilon Ace. It'll be hard to fly with them, but it can help shed stress and open the interceptor dials. That leaves 17 points, and Night Beast is about the best 15 points you can get. Leaving a 2 point bid. Or swap Dark Curse, but with Carnor his ability is less needed. Mauler Mithel can put decent damage at range 1, a 4 die attack from a TIE is surprising, but is going to struggle to get it off. Personally I'd run Night Beast, who may be my favorite TIE pilot. It is absolutely not tournament ready, and bombs will give you fits. Nym Miranda would just wreck this list in so many ways. And ordinance in general would be an issue. No Autothrusters means you are really at the mercy of dice. But it is the best list I can see with what you have Rebel wise.
Go with countess Ryad and a tie D title add tomax on a bomber with crack shot. And then fill it out with a couple tie FOs. Should get there. Those first two are my favorites from veterans.
Great video. I just wish there were some better ships for imperial. I play imperial and maybe eventually will want to play scum but it just seems like the bad guys in just about every table top game always are not powerful enough.
Ricky well thing is for a long time, years really, Empire was THE dominant faction. Scum wasn't competitive viable until midway through 2016, and Rebels really only gained parity within the last year. That the Empire is the weakest faction today is relatively recent, and more reflective of how strong ordinance is at the moment.
Imperial have some incredibly powerful options right now in the likes of Quickdraw, Omega Leader, and the generic Star wing pilots, to name a few. TIE Defenders and the Inquisitor are also very good.
Thanks for the replys and explanations. Yeah I am new to X wing so thanks for letting me know. What I have right now is the Decimator, TIE Silencer, Tie Defender, Tie Advanced, Star Wing, and the Slave I expansion and starter set. I enjoy playing with them but don't really care for the Star Wing as much. I think I will hold off on buying anything else until after Legion comes out and then I may look into some other stuff.
Its sad to see alot of the older ships not see play anymore. I have a bunch of poor old ties that dont make it out of the box anymore because they just arent viable. Its not even all that fun to fly them because bombs, turrets and the hyper mobility of some of the new ships and upgrades. But I agree with you I strongly dislike the TIE Adv Prototype. I feel it is an ugly model, only one pilot is useful and it was jusy lazy design. It looks like they just cut Vader's TIE Advance in half

I use a phantom with to fo ties and a gunboat and get pretty decent results. Want to get the imperial aces pack though

Almost everything I do is "mid range competitive" which is why I only do store tournaments

Even though I am a die hard Empire player, I must admit that Rebels is the correct answer.
But the force awakens ones are a different faction. The first order is not the galactic empire
They are sub-factions and are compatible with each other. You can fly Wedge and Poe in the same list, for example.

They aren't half bad, but Vader is always gonna be the best.

Great video. I just wish there were some better ships for imperial. I play imperial and maybe eventually will want to play scum but it just seems like the bad guys in just about every table top game always are not powerful enough.
Ricky well thing is for a long time, years really, Empire was THE dominant faction. Scum wasn't competitive viable until midway through 2016, and Rebels really only gained parity within the last year. That the Empire is the weakest faction today is relatively recent, and more reflective of how strong ordinance is at the moment.
Imperial have some incredibly powerful options right now in the likes of Quickdraw, Omega Leader, and the generic Star wing pilots, to name a few. TIE Defenders and the Inquisitor are also very good.
Thanks for the replys and explanations. Yeah I am new to X wing so thanks for letting me know. What I have right now is the Decimator, TIE Silencer, Tie Defender, Tie Advanced, Star Wing, and the Slave I expansion and starter set. I enjoy playing with them but don't really care for the Star Wing as much. I think I will hold off on buying anything else until after Legion comes out and then I may look into some other stuff.

Its sad to see alot of the older ships not see play anymore. I have a bunch of poor old ties that dont make it out of the box anymore because they just arent viable. Its not even all that fun to fly them because bombs, turrets and the hyper mobility of some of the new ships and upgrades. But I agree with you I strongly dislike the TIE Adv Prototype. I feel it is an ugly model, only one pilot is useful and it was jusy lazy design. It looks like they just cut Vader's TIE Advance in half
quick games are VERY over rated.
and you can easily avoid bombs by simply flying better. there are no "homing" bombs.
