Just started playing over Christmas and I glad to say I got some of the first buys you recommended. I actually drove over an hour away to get the rebel aces pack because it was the only place it was in stock. Love your videos, they are super helpful for beginners like me. Keep it up!
ONE WORD PERFECT!!! I have only been playing a year. I saw your first "what to buy first" videos and it helped me get started however since then I have purchased most of the ships(all 3 factions however still need new shuttle) because I made this my hobby. I will say in the year I have played many ships and changes have come out and for a new player it can be a bit complex to start. THANKS FOR KEEPING IT SIMPLE FOR FOLKS.

Ah, yes, Jar Jar Binks...the only Crew card in X-Wing that can also do damage on the player of the game (right passed all the shields!) rather than just the opponent's ships in the game.
im so glad i found your channel... i got the Falcon and Ghost expansions plus both the core sets for my B-day in March 2018 and im quickly addicted to this game :) hunting down the expansions like a mad man LOL

The arc was thf first rebel ship I got. Loved it in episode 3. And I enjoy having it on the table. Ps thanks for keeping me company while I cleaned up the kitchen.

Well found this really use full. My little sister just gave me a U-Wing Pack for my birthday. More because she knows i love the U-Wing alot, and that i want to get in to the game some time soon. So Thanks for the great info.
Hit thumbs up as soon as you said you go out of your way to include the B-Wing just because it's your favourite ship. It's true, the B-Wing is the coolest damn Star Wars ship to have ever existed. Not sure how I feel about people mixing eras, like OT and sequels ships, but to each their own. (Actually I do know how I feel about it, and I hate it. But you do you, not everyone is a purist when it comes to gaming.)
I got the ARC-170 on a whim last year before I even had a core set because I love that ship so much and the model was so good. Great to hear that it's as functional as it is pretty!
Thanks so much for this. I bought the original core and all of wave one when they came out and had nobody to play with so I stopped buying. Now I am looking into playing again and needed some advice. This helps a lot.

Hey man! Great video!! Listen, I’m thinking of buying this game but I’m reeeeally into the original trilogy, so I don’t want anything to do with any movies other than chapters IV, V & VI. Also, I’m buying it only to play CASUALLY. That being said, what teams would you recommend for me to get so I can get an even battle between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire? I don’t want to get ships so that one team really steps up compared to the other, like, I really want epic teams that can make the battle entertaining and evenly balanced each time we play. Can you please help me with that? Thank you anyway my friend, and again, great video!
As a casual player, for me it's all about the fun. I'm a big B-wing fan too, and always fly one or two. I also love the HWK and always try to put Kyle or Jan in my list. It's not a great ship at all, but damn, it looks so good on the board (and Jedi Knight was the best SW game ever!).
Good rundown. I was going to argue about how low you rated the T-65 expansion, then I realized my favorite X-wing pilots (other than Wedge) are from the Rebel Transport: Tarn Mison and Wes Janson. Wedge is awesome if you put vectored thrusters and outmaneuver on him, and Tarn is a survivor; if you put the R7 Astromech on, makes the fighter hard to get off the board. I've put together a T-65 list I think will surprise local players and might even be competitive, though I'm a long way from that.
Thanks for the vid I just started playing x wing recently and have small imp fleet but only the x wings from both core sets so this helped a lot getting me into a 2nd faction.
I just got my core set yesterday, 2.0 version (best friend and I bought it for each other for Christmas), and I got the Empire and Rebel conversion kits thinking to buy some of the cheaper 1.0 and convert them. They had some Empire as add on stuff on Amazon, so picked up a few, also got the OT Millenium Falcon... really wanting the old school feel. So after all this.. I'll play my second game, maybe this week :D
New player in Japan here. Thanks for the recommendations. I have to catch up quickly so I can jump into play. Hard to get models here. Amazon is almost my only choice. But there is a cool shop in Kashiwa, Chiba.
Great to see an update to the original set of videos! They were very helpful when I started, even though they were a bit out of date by then. Is there any chance that you could add the list in the description as well? Maybe a written up part at the end of the video? The old video had all the ships layed out on a table at once and it helped to see them all grouped up in the different piles together.
Nym was a playable character in the old Starfighter game, and he did have a crazy bomber there. The N-1 is still my favourite starfighter though, hoping they add that to the game eventually.
I do have to concur with your video. I am a very casual player. I have the FAQ but I always fly casual. And honestly they need a title card for the T-65 maybe call it the t-65b. But anybody thinking about playing what he say is true find what you like and play. I love T-65's and A-wings. Find what ship looks good or you like and go from there. As always great video with good info.
So, I'm looking to get a Falcon and am wondering which is better: HotR or the OG Falcon based solely on the Falcon's pilots/abilities? I understand you put HotR up front because of the value of the package, but I was just wondering about which Falcon was better purely on pilots/survival ability.
Obviously you're correct in X-wing expansion not being for competitive play, but if you play casual like I do and are a huge fan of Rogue Squadron/X-wing books, ya gotta have Wedge!
I know you are busy but I just got into this game and coudnt find my answer anywhere else and you seem to know a lot about it. I have the millenium flacon and the card that gives it a slam ability. It says that after I use SLAM i have to get rid of the card. So does that mean that I can only use SLAM once per game?
I see a lot of Xwing use locally. I am a new player but Poe gets a ton of use and Biggs is still pretty common post nerf. I just want small ships(other than bombers) to become competitive again. It looks like the meta is mostly bombs and Jumpmasters still and I would love to see fighters become a bigger focus. Can’t wait to see what happens in the next wave!
I say put a u wing after the resistance bomber. U wing with Sabine, thermal detonators, and extra munitions, with the new resistance bomber box there is a system upgrade that makes this U wing a nasty build.
501stspartan I've run a u wing pretty close to that. Sabine, bombardier, extra munitions and clusters. If you pick blue sqd pathfinder, you've got a bomber with 3 attack, 2 agility and 8 hp that will often move first and can drop bombs pretty much anywhere. All for 32 PTS (or less depending on ordinance).
I think you gave it a good run down, your first expansion choice, is the one box that I'd have my sights on if I can afford to do multiple factions, but I'm on a budget and I prefer the Scum. Made me glad to see you include the Scum in this list (even if it's just one card) I will definitely be picking up a Scurge (or two) for my list. Thanks for the suggestion. Have you done the Scum Video yet?
Great videos. Watch them while I do freelance animation early hours of the morning. Had a couple of base ships in my cupboard, just sitting there. They eventually hit the table last weekend and what a blast. Just picked up the Wookie gunship on a 30% off sale and hoping to get the Tie Punisher for that 0 pilot skill bomb drop move. Doubt I will get into 2.0 but hoping to see some price drops for 1.0. Just plan on avoiding buying ships with the permenant 360 turrets, as they make skilled piloting irrelevant.
They will get an upgrade with the next wave. Just hold on to them...they won't let the most iconic ship in the rebellion suck forever, it's bad for business :)
I just received my core set today. So with Veterans, you literally get one set with one A and one B wing and field that? Not a squadron? You don’t get like three of those sets?
Was soooo hoping you would put out an update, but I had to get my info the "old fashion way" (not findind a little convenient yt vid but seaching elsewhere :dramatic_music:...) Am glad to see that I made the right call ordering HOR as my first expansion. Bun since I'm from Balkans it's gonna take some time to arrive. I am hoping that it gets here before the local ligue starts. :) Here's my quiestion if you get time to come around to it: I would lile to get a few of the Imperial ships as well so I could play in my home town as well but would like to enhance my rebels at the same time if possible. Through my modest research I concluded that the best imp expansion for that would be the TIE aggresor and TIE scilencer. Whats your take on that? :)

If I'm only getting OT and EU stuff for the warm fuzzy feelings and am not super fussed about the most meta build but still want my stuff to be effective casually, would it be fine to start with the old starter set, and then get a b-wing, y-wing and the classic falcon? Those are the ones that leap out to me. Getting the resistance versions wouldn't feel the same personally and I'd probably not bother if they were mandatory. Thanks for uploading!
I'm in the same position you were at the time you wrote this. Thinking of getting into X-Wing, but only interested in the OT + Rogue One. No interest in anything outside that, so I'll probably go with a themed force of core fighters like you described. A side bonus is that because I'm not bothered about the sequel trilogy, or most of the EU (I could be tempted by the Outrider and a couple of the bounty hunter ships because those have been lodged in my brain for 20 years), I don't have to worry about getting sucked into "collecting" stuff I don't care about. I just want a basic Rebel fleet, no frills.
Any advice on trying to get people into armada/x-wing? Ive bought 2 armada core sets and an isd expasion (also getting imperial and rebel fighter pack 1 for free) but none of my friends are into tabletop games and at the local shop where people are l've only met one armada player and sadly never got his contact info. Maybe point me to some forums? Either way love your content :) keep it up!
It's hard for me whenever you downgrade something because it's is better when you get that one card from a different expansion. As I don't play competitively, likely won't ever play any tournaments, and live by "Fly Casually", I just use printoff from one of the builder sites to make my squad and then just use that sheet during the game without ever getting out the cards (also saves setup time), it means I have unlimited copies of every "card", even if I didn't buy a certain epic expansion that it comes in.
I have all the ships up to about wave 8 with at least 2 each i have some here and there of other waves but had to slow sense lost job so it was nice to see some of the newer ships that i don't have but i cant wait tell u put up the ones for scum/mercs which is what i call them. That's my favorite faction. From the start iv'e always loved bombs so its nice to see them getting some loving and i just got the bomber merc love it. Hope u put up a list for new bomber load outs for mercs.
Mr Crabbok your what to buy lists are really good and informative,however i have to disagree with you on the Jumpmaster,it's a really cool model,i love it,far better than the Arc 170 looks wise.Hey,that's my opinion hahaha.

Same here, bought both core sets, Imperial Aces and Heros of the Resistance and have no one to play with ... trying to get my young kids interested

Horton Salm, TLT and vectored thrusters make for a great y-wing if you have the money for the k-wing and arc

For Xmas I got the TFA core set, a Y wing and a TIE Striker, and then I’ve bought the Ghost expansion, TIE Punisher, and the original core set.
Still haven't made the plunge so very helpful, looking forward to the other two faction videos

I have all the ships up to about wave 8 with at least 2 each i have some here and there of other waves but had to slow sense lost job so it was nice to see some of the newer ships that i don't have but i cant wait tell u put up the ones for scum/mercs which is what i call them. That's my favorite faction. From the start iv'e always loved bombs so its nice to see them getting some loving and i just got the bomber merc love it. Hope u put up a list for new bomber load outs for mercs.
