+BadSneakers That guitarist is the guitarist for the Funky Meters, Leo Nocentelli, the Meters were the rhythm section for Dr. John on that album, been playing with him for many years.
I'm 55 now. This blew my mind. I remember Sunday, after church heading to the grocery store in the station wagon and Dad had this playing on an 8 track. So cool. Thanks for the memories. 👍
@@youtubeaccount2139 I know that I shouldn't feed the troll, but this is just too annoying. Of course there isn't just Dr. John. New Orleans has an outstanding musical tradition, and especially jazz music just wouldn't have happened without folks like Jelly Roll Morton, and all those Louis Armstrong, Wilbert Kirk, Champion Jack Dupree, Wynton Marsalis and so many others were to follow. And then there were The Meters or the Neville Brothers, influential almost like those pioneers, even though half a century later and in different genres, as well as Allen Toussaint. And Dr. John is a part of that great tradition. And definitely not the least important one. '$uicide Boy$' just happen to be from New Orleans as well, but the kind of music they make has been created elsewhere and has nothing to do with that city.
willy potts well said, Yeah it is a sad day, but Doctor will always be alive, all we need to do is keep listening to his music. The Doctor will always be playing. I’m sure wherever he is, there is a spot for him at the piano & what band that must be 🕶
You're in the right place I reckon, but it sure feels like the wrong time. Not another song like this one! Can't count how many times I have listened and danced to it! Thank you Dr. John. You were one of a kind and are missed greatly. 😢🙏😎✌💐
Also, Emerson, Lake , and Palmer's BEST album... And one of the best album covers in history. Don't wanna take away from Dr. John here, but that's one of my desert island albums, and you only need to look at my half sleeve to understand why.
An important part of the melodic gumbo that is New Orleans' music scene is the magic of Dr. John. The six-time Grammy winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member died (June 6, 2019) of a heart attack at the age of 77. Dr. John, whose real name was Malcolm John Rebennack Jr., was a New Orleans native, and his music was just as vibrant as his hometown. He started out as a songwriter and guitarist in the 1950s before playing with Aretha Franklin and the Rolling Stones. His biggest hit was "Right Place Wrong Time," which was a Top 10 tune in 1973. He won his last Grammy in 2012, for his blues album, "Locked Down."
I saw Dr. John in Vegas for Free. He was awesome. Found out years later after moving away from New Orleans that we had the same Drug dealer connection.
Melody Sanger who know 4 years later he would be gone. I did hear the Doctor say 77 was alright, in that magic voice of his 🕶 Just keep listening to his music & he will never be gone ✌️
Look up the Best of Crawdad Live at the Ranch. Steve Gaines pre-Skynyrd did such a great job covering this song! Heard his version first before digging into the original musician behind the song. Long live Dr. John!
R.I.P. Dr. John, born Malcolm John Rebennack, {1941 - 2019}... His three other Top 100 records were "Iko Iko" {#71 in 1972}, "Such A Night {#42 in 1973}, and "(Everybody Wanna Get Rich) Rite Away" {#92 in 1974}...
