Honestly, they seem to have hit the story aspect out of the park. I'm incredibly impressed by how they actually made a death race set make sense in magic lore. The new cultural collective using races to entice new recruits? That's totally believable. Them using this race as a way to explore the omenpaths and as a form of soft power? Also absolutely believable. I am actually looking forward to the story of this set. It doesn't seem to have the same problem that MKM had, which I thought would be the case.
Sounds like Avishkar and Ravnica are on a collision course with their intentions. It will be interesting to see how Niv's ego will deal with 'competition' for being a multiplanar hub.
I am sure that Avishkar's new government considers itself to be prudent and shrewd, plotting to stablish themselves amidst the infinite stars that now have opened their eyes towards them. That's so optimistic it sends shivers down my spine. Niv having their aether in his sights should be the less of their concerns. There are likely so many horrors in the multiverse that even the phyrexians, Valgavoth and Bolas would likely not face, and these inventors think they are ready to announce themselves to all that? If the writers don't end up closing the omenpaths soon enough, this multiverse is gonna be nigh unrecognizable soon enough, in a much less exciting way than the organizers of this race can imagine.
I'm glad Miguel works where he does. I'm glad he sees the Omenpath era that isn't just old planes with a gimmick. The addition of new planes and peoples makes the Multiverse actually feel unknowably large.
I can’t believe WotC didn’t also change the name of Amonkhet. If you translate it into Arabic, take the first 5 letters and translate them into French and then back into Arabic backwards the first three letters are sometimes an African slang racist term.

It's good to see good reception to this feeling, cuz I think a lot of Magic players, more than get acknowledged, feel that the game is fun regardless of what they're story choices are. Many do want to have more of the Magic aesthetics back, and that's fine, but just as many accept whatever the story is, good or bad, and care more about the Magic gameplay.
@@elliottroose4194 I love this idea It really makes the multiverse feel both more expansive and more interesting, all of the completely different ideas and aesthetics all being part of the same universe that's what makes Magic the Gathering special

On the note of changing the name of Kaladesh to Avishkar: It will, at least for me be like with twitter, which is actually called X now. Still call it Kaladesh because I am so used to it and it has a Set named after it. That being said, I am not against that change per se. Especially as long as they make that Set a good one.
In the time I've been playing, Magic will have gone from three sets for a plane to three planes in a set. It's kind of a hard sell for me, but I really hope it turns out alright and avoids being an Aftermath 2.0 where there's so much happening all at once. I *am* curious about the idea of setting things up for down the road in this new era for the Multiverse. If there were any plane to try for being the hub, I can see Ravnica or Avishkar being interesting opponents/rivals. I'm sure the peoples of Dominaria have had enough of being central to things. I'm still kind of worried we won't get a lot of good looks into the world with the race also being a focus. Ugh! I'm so tossed up about this one.

I really want to be positive but i absolutely hate what omenpaths(especially stable ones) have done to the multiverse. It just feels so small now. Instead of worlds theyre just suburbs cities or countries. Getting to see worlds like Muraganda that we otherwise wouldnt is a decent use, but just slapping race tracks all over this unique world, or our first decent return to Amonkhet feels awful. We had this potential to see a compelling bleak world after the events of HoD and follow the survivors but now we go right to rebuilding and healing and roads everywhere. This would have been a great un set, or a race set on Avishkar could have explored the concept well but as is this will be the first set i spent $0 on in a very long time. (this Avishkar name change has been handled extremely well though and that is definitely a positive to see)

It screams a bit "Hot Wheels"...? It feels like the world of Magic has been tossed to the side to feel more like reality, but Magic wasn't suppose to be reality... Maybe less forrmula 1 look with full on engines, and more vehicles/transportation methods that reflect the actual planes character through their choice of transportation of what each plane believes is their fastest form of planes travel. Maybe a version of Esika's chariot from Kaldheim, Moonshaker Calvary's carriage from Eldrain, or a new mount card that can reflect Ikoria beasts that had been tamed for races after the planes crossover due to phyrexia take over? I like the overall race idea, but I don't think the race cars reflect the world or the planes of magic. none the less, still excited to try these mechanics out!
