caulking butt joints on glass

First i clean the caulk joint then i put backer rod. After that i tape the glass about a 32nd from the edge that way when i tool the caulking it doesn’t cut the tape. I know other caulkers say that real caulkers don’t use tape but thats because they are to lazy to do it the right way. The tape allows you to push the caulking into the joint instead of when they don’t tape it and just back toll and run the tool over the caulking. You get a way better seal when you push it in. Once i shoot it i push the caulking in , in both directions then cut the caulking with the tool. After that i pull the tape and have nothing to clean up it looks clean and professional.
