I'm going back to Scotland in May of 2025! Join me for an 8-night knitting tour exploring the Scottish Highlands! trips.myelitetrip.com/trip/6yw9rqrrduwsqz2armn59qqgveg6gjq
Found your channel by accident, and was super intrigued to hear about your trip as I have strong connections to Scotland (even though I have lived in Australia for decades and am currently living in Darwin, which is in the Australian tropics … 😊). I have to say, this is the BEST bit of armchair travel I have had the privilege to enjoy in ages! Congratulations on a job well done. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 It was a real treat to be able to sit here in my air conditioning, spinning away and knitting, while seeing some places that were so dear to me as a child. I doubt I will ever get back for a visit, but this was the next best thing. I may live in the tropics, but I still love my Shetland lace knitting and Fairisle, so it was awesome to see the exhibits in the museum. Have subscribed and look forward to more of your videos. Hugs from Down Under … 🥰🌴🌴🌴
Hi, I'm scottish and have visited Shetland and just want to say not to worry about how you pronounce Lerwick because some of the locals call it Lerwick and others call it Lerick. So, please do not concern yourself about it. Its great seeing all the things you are doing and have really enjoyed it. x
I love that I'm able to live (spmewhat) the knitting tour life vicariously through you! Your coverage has been fabulous and for the record, I don't care about shakey cameras! I appreciate you taking the time to capture your adventures and put it altogether for us to see too! Shake away lovely 😂 xx
Thank you, Rachel, for a wonderful series of videos on your Scotland trip. I appreciate the time and effort you put into everything you do. I’m sorry you received negative comments about your video skills or pronunciation of certain words. These are so unnecessary. I’m glad your tour mates helped you when you might have felt anxious. Anyway, keep doing what you’re doing dear, I love it! 😊
This was a lovely episode. I've wondered about traveling solo. I usually travel with family and none of them are crafters. Thank you for doing these wonderful.tours. I've always enjoyed your videos and appreciate your style and humor.
I am prone to carsickness, and I just want to say that the shake didn't bother me at all.😊I loved the first three parts and look forward to this one. Thank you!❤
I found you on YT in my search for Shetland and Scotland details on the ferry vs flight decision. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed each of these four parts! (And regular episodes) So many chuckles, and so many helpful tips. The Smokey Rose is now legendary. We should lobby to Maybelline to make a Dusky Smoky Fuschia in your honor. 😂
The second set of colors are much brighter! The first set was what I call muddy colors, which I think are ugly even though they are popular. I am glad you purchased what you truly wanted.😊❤
I don't know how your trip appeared on my list, because I never learned how to knit or crochet, but I have wanted to for years! Watching your videos of your knitting trip has inspired me to learn the art. I loved embroidery, cross stitch, needle point, latch hook, and macrame, so I will hopefully be able to learn to knit! I am a new subscriber, so I will follow you for your inspiring videos! Thank you!❤ Also I too am a homebody, and deal with anxiety, but you have the courage to take tour groups on these trips, so you can pat yourself on the back! I loved the series! Bravo, Rachel! You are a lovely young woman with a wonderful sense of humor and a sweet personality!❤👏
Thanks so much for your lovely comment! I’m so glad that you’ve found my channel! It sounds like you have a wealthy of knowledge with all of those crafting hobbies you have. Amazing! Knitting will fit right in :) So glad you’re here!
What a FABULOUS vlog this has been! Loved all the food clips. Loved all your commentary in each of the episodes. Your reflection on the whole experience of anxiety was touching too. And I don’t even knit. 😂🫶🏴
I really enjoyed this series - thanks for sharing your experience. Last fall my sister and I went to Perú for a textile experience. We had lived in Lima when I was 12-15 and we were excited to return. We journeyed to Cusco and then to the ancient town of Ollantaytambo. We spent 3 days at 12,000 feet in a Quechua village where we learned how the local women process wool and alpaca fiber to create everything they wear. Over the total of 6 days we were together our group of ten women bonded so quickly and tightly. We, too, continue to chat on WhatsApp and some of us are going on a knitting/hiking tour to Iceland in October 2025. All of this was organized through a store in Petaluma, CA, Fiber Circle Studio. Petaluma was once my home but I now live in Portland, OR. (Also, we lived in Mandeville, LA for two years!) I encourage people to take part in a similar tour experience as you will have a grand time.
Rachel, thank you so much for this set of videos! My husband and i are going to Lewrick in mid September, which is a dream come true for me, and your videos were so helpful. I can't wait to get more J & S , and Jamieson of Shetland yarn.
I think the pronunciation police should take a break. We all know what city you were talking about. While in Edinburgh I heard many different pronunciations of that city’s name, and funnily enough no one arrested them. 😂 You did a wonderful recap of the trip. I should know, I was there with you. Thank you so much.
I need a reel with Rachel celebrating while walking out of the Ireland drug store with the Smokey Rose lipstick. Came for the yarn goodness but also got invested in the lipstick acquisition side quest. 😂
Hi! Thanks so much for watching! I’m so glad you found them. Thant you for showing us and telling us about your travel experiences! Two years ago I went to Shetland. Stayed att the same hotel as you and met some of the workshop teatchers that you met. Such wonderful memories. And I am so happy and excited - in a few weeks I will go back to Shetland for Shetland Wool Week. I hope that you soon will have the lipstick of your dreams. I don´t wear lipstick, but I almost feel the urge to buy the Smokey rose for your sake.
Have the best time for Wool Week!! I’m so curious what it’s like during that time. Maybe one day I’ll experience it! Thanks for watching and for the kind comment 💜
Hi Rachel, Just started the same vest purchased at J & S. I chose to go with the colors shown in the photo. Your series on our tour is impressive. I have spread the word about your podcast to others who attended our trip. Good to see you virtually. Martha in Kentucky
New subscriber here. I think you're fab. I saw a comment from a fellow Scottish person to say don't worry about your pronunciation, everyone watching knows where you were so even if you said LerLICK we all know where you were 😅😂. It's mainly the Shetlanders who pronunce it Lerick, I live in Elgin in Moray and I say Lerwick 😂. I love Shetland and the series on TV, did you have time to visit Jimmy's Hoose (the character Jimmy Perez in the series)? Love your content, thanks for taking us with you on your trip, you are so funny too 😂. Keep up the good work x
So glad I found your channel, Rachel. Loved your Scotland and Shetland trip and as a newish knitter it's been great to watch as I knit. I think you're fabulous and funny. Thanks for sharing!!
These recaps have been absolutely amazing and such a great representation of the trip. Thank you for the work you put into documenting a fantastic 10 days!
Love your knitting Tour of Scotland and Shetland series! I never noticed any video shake. I was wrapped up in your content, comments and the imagery. You made me feel like i was right there too! Making my plans and budgeting to hopefully join you in future. Thank you!
Thanks for another great recap video! Your adventures sound like so much fun. I’m a full time power wheelchair user so travel is a bit much for me, but please do keep posting wonderful recap videos when you’re out and about. I find. them so fun to watch. Can you just order that lipstick from the UK now? I’d hate for you to wait until next year and then find out that the color has been discontinued. I’d buy two or three tubes so you’ll have a supply of them. My complexion is similar to yours so I do tend to love those berry pink shades as well. I’m always trying other ones because I think I’m boring so need to try new things, but then I’m never happy and I always go back to berry pink shades. Glad you got the purples that make you happy for your vest. I am sure you’re not the first person to do a color swap in that store where they’re all about the colors. It’s so great that you were still in a position to go back, because it would have been awful to make a project that in your heart would not have made you as happy.
Thanks so much for your kind comment! I'll continue to post recaps of all my knitting trips, don't you worry. The next one I'm on is in October, so not long to wait now. And yes I agree about the berry lipstick shades. There's just something about them! I'll definitely stock up when I'm back that way.
Loved this last one, I watched it earlier today but wanted to come back on to say that I teared up along with you at the end 😢 If you ever decide to do knitting meet ups on your tours (I’m in Ireland!) let me (or the internets) know!
Thank you for your detailed review of this tour. You have gotten my attention! No need to apologize for the wonky camera shots. I am grateful for what you shared. So sorry about your lipstick. Years ago, we spent a night at hotel in London and took a walk but needed to take a taxi back. We kept asking for a ride to the Swallow Hotel and no driver recognized it. Come to find out, we were staying at the Sparrow Hotel! Again, thank you so much.
I made the hat you’re making for your husband. He’s a Purdue fan and I did it in black and golds. I wish I could post a picture for you. Shape of hat is different from traditional caps. Very cool.
Hi Rachel, I’ve found my way to your channel via these Scotland vlogs and I just wanted to say: thank you for your positivity and ignore the ‘constructive criticism’, you and your content are a joy just as you are 👍💜 Also, please don’t worry about pronunciation, I thought yours was totally fine. I’m from the far north of Scotland, I’ve been to Shetland several times and I have friends from Shetland (with proper local accents). The only time I’ve heard someone pronounce Lerwick without the ‘w’ was an American lady, I think it’s a case of mishearing the local accent and then trying to imitate it 🤔🤷🏻♀️ The ‘wick’ part comes from the Norse for bay, so it is pronounced. English is a funny old language, especially when you start throwing Norse and Gaelic place names into the melting pot 😆 Thanks for all your hard work and generosity in sharing; I’ve been enjoying watching some of your older episodes ☺️ Ailie x
Thank you for the continuation of your Scotland trip. I appreciate the differentiation between the 2 shops in Lerwick as well as the other shops you went to. As I said, our ship stops there in Sept and we don't have a tour scheduled right now, so I plan to do some yarn shopping. I have not used Jamison and Smith, but I have a Gudren Johnson cowl pattern to get yarn for.
Ignore the criticisms - there are always critics - unhappy folk. I binge-watched the whole series - just loved it all . And remain incredibly jealous of your forays into Jamieson & co. I'm sure I could spend days there. And FYI, my closest yarn store is 450 miles.
Excellent job! I am really enjoying your videos. I have been wanting to go to Shetland and this gives me ideas. I did look at your trip for 2025-but you are not visiting Shetland. Should I check out Knitting Tours to find a tour itinerary like this one?
Shetland didn’t line up for us for 2025 due to multiple festivals taking place throughout the entirety of the summer months. I will definitely host Shetland tours in the future and I’m looking forward to going back after 2025!
Have a look at the Voyage by Wool and Pine (it's on Ravelry). It's a riotous steeked fair isle cardigan that is made from scraps. Chevyrell on YT is making it. It's scrumptious. Enjoying my vicarious holiday in Scotland.
Here's a link to the plastic storage bags I use in this video for my yarn! These are a great option for yarn storage and even can make great project bags! This is a paid link: shorturl.at/DxqeZ
I'm.from.sweden and live in Northern Ireland, was blessed to visit shetland last year. Learned that Lerwick, means , Clay bay. Aw , I thought that makes semse because ' Lera' in swedish is clay and ' vik ' is bay. It was interesting, thought you might like to know. Like those stich holders you got in loose ends, which id seen those. You have to knit that headband, is it the Benone one? Very interesting. Thank you
I think you do just fine. I loved Petes- had Victoria Sponge and ate there a few times. Is your project bag an Emma Ball? Thank you. I would love to go back( and stay) in Scotland! Lucky you to do all this travel .
It was absolutely fabulous! On this tour we had people joining from the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and England! The tours are open to anyone worldwide.
I loved all your recap videos from Shetland and Ireland. If you could only do one of these tours which one would you suggest? Also what did your husband do while you were in your workshops in Ireland? My husband wants to come with me to Shetland but I don’t want him to be bored
I think that both tours are phenomenal! I recommend looking at the itineraries and comparing them to decide which one sounds more appealing to you. My Scotland tour for May 2025 sold out really fast, but we are working adding additional tours shortly. Not sure if they will be in Ireland or Scotland yet. Non-knitters can get up to all sorts of stuff during the workshops. In Shetland, the non-knitter on our trip did a lot of walking around and taking in the sights and scenery. One day in Ireland, my husband DJ climbed a nearby "mountain" while we were in a workshop. The tour guide sometimes is also able to provide a list of local suggestions for non-knitters to explore while the knitters are in the workshops!
It’s funny that you talk about the pronunciation of Lerwick. If you watch the show “Shetland “you’ll hear it pronounced “Lerrik” and when I was talking to a colleague of mine who is actually from that part of the world, he basically said that how to pronounce it so when in Rome, do the Romans do as they say. If you’re there, listen to how they say it and just copy them. And you’ll probably be fine.😊
God I would love to join one of these trips. But I have celiac disease, so I have severe food requirements. Is that something that could be accommodated?
@@rosslynnoziska4959 I just sent out sign ups for the next one to my email list! You can sign up here and I'll get it sent to you :) forms.gle/Sy8CRkEzyPuW2pqH7
Here in Scotland coeliacs are well catered for in restaurant menus in general. I live in Scotland and my cousin is coeliac. Menus may naturally of course be a bit limited in choice due to the nature of the dietary restrictions on ingredients. She does just fine eating out. I’m sure you’d be fine. Also as a side note - Lerwick and Lerrick are used interchangeably 😊.
Hi again! I've just gotten this question answered from our tour director, who writes: "restaurants and hotels are well prepared for this. We will be advising all venues in advance of dietary requirements, so there should not be any trouble." Hope this helps!
This was an amazing armchair sailing trip❣️You could contact the shop and purchase the headband and have it shipped to you! You deserve all the pretty things (and the lipstick 💄 too!)🏴🏴 🏴
The link is in the video description and I’ll add it here as well! :) docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeT96h52iSz0Zt8HHQlsCsgeV7jK4z1NfI-KSvHHf6gDkGJZQ/viewform
You're too sweet. I don't want anyone to trouble themselves! 💜 But if you do happen to see it suddenly be clearanced everywhere as if it's being discontinued, PLEASE grab me a tube! Only then are we in dire territory! 😅
Sorry, but the tour is about 5000€. And you buy lots of wool ect. I don't think it is very unreasonable to ask you to one time pay 200 $ for the comfort of your viewers. Who in turn also supply you with money/opportunities to make such trips and make money of the same trips. That comment felt very of to me.
Thanks for your comment! It was not my intent to make you or any other viewer feel like I do not value you - far from the case! My intent with those comments was to communicate an acknowledgement of the limitations of the footage. Since this video, a generous viewer has gifted me a gimbal, so I'm excited to have more stabilized travel vlogs moving forward. Thanks again for watching and for your comment.
As a Shetlander I am SO pleased with how you have represented our islands. I have thoroughly enjoyed this little series of vlogs and now having found you I have subscribed and I'll probably be playing catch-up to see all your videos. I would like to offer you a gift. I will email you to let you know what it is. Finally, you are very good at what you do. You are very pretty and you definitely suit the colour purple. Please check your email. Sincerely, Kate x
Thank you so much for your kind comment, Kate! I'm glad that you approve of the vlogs. Shetland is such an AMAZING place, and I am so honored to have experienced it. Can't wait to be back!! Hopefully in 2026. I'll keep an eye out on my inbox! Looking forward to hearing more xx

Thanks so much! Good to know that there’s options depending on how well I remember what Google pronunciation told me!
Lovely series Thank you Rachel.
Thoroughly enjoyed your videos. I want to go to Scotland!!
Rachel, I think you did a fabulous job on your trip!! There are always people that can't be pleased.
Thanks so much! Just did my best 💜

This was a lovely episode. I've wondered about traveling solo. I usually travel with family and none of them are crafters. Thank you for doing these wonderful.tours. I've always enjoyed your videos and appreciate your style and humor.
Glad you enjoyed it! You can definitely join a tour by yourself (or bring along a non-knitting friend)!

That’s so awesome! Wish I knew when we were still on the trip; you could’ve shown me a photo then!
Made it when I got home. I’ll send a pic if you want. Just let me know is how.
Email or Instagram DM works!
Have been really enjoying ur podcasts. TU
Thank you for watching!
Hi Rachel, I’ve found my way to your channel via these Scotland vlogs and I just wanted to say: thank you for your positivity and ignore the ‘constructive criticism’, you and your content are a joy just as you are 👍💜
Also, please don’t worry about pronunciation, I thought yours was totally fine. English is a funny old language, especially when you start throwing Norse and Gaelic place names into the melting pot 😆
Thanks for all your hard work and generosity in sharing; I’ve been enjoying watching some of your older episodes ☺️ Ailie x
Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Have the best time in September!
Ignore the criticisms - there are always critics - unhappy folk. I binge-watched the whole series - just loved it all . And remain incredibly jealous of your forays into Jamieson & co. I'm sure I could spend days there. And FYI, my closest yarn store is 450 miles.
450 miles?!?! Thank goodness for online shopping then!
Yes, Emma Ball! It was so cute that I couldn't pass it up.
@@rachelisknitting I bought one intuit bookshop too! funny stuff. I have a cowl in it that Im knitting.
It sounds like a wonderful tour, with so many interesting workshops, demonstrations and visits. An action packed 9 days. Are you all from USA?
I watched all the seasons of Shetland and DI Jimmy Perez pronouces « Lerrick » !
This is my 3rdvog with you …..are you ever going to talk about actual knitting? I am trying to learn.
You can look at my page for more knitting videos. I don’t teach knitting on here though.
What is the price of one of your tours to Ireland?
The price varies based on what is offered on that particular tour!
God I would love to join one of these trips. But I have celiac disease, so I have severe food requirements. Is that something that could be accommodated?
We do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions! I can look into this specifically with our hotels etc.
Where do you catch these tours?
You deserve all the pretty things (and the lipstick 💄 too!)🏴🏴 🏴
Thanks for watching! So glad you enjoyed. Good idea about contacting the shop!
What is the price of one of your tours please
The price varies based on what is offered on that particular tour!
Then, how do you find out about these tours to find out how much they are to see what they offer?
How do I get on your email list?
The link is in the video description and I’ll add it here as well! :) docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeT96h52iSz0Zt8HHQlsCsgeV7jK4z1NfI-KSvHHf6gDkGJZQ/viewform
It's your hard earned money. Good for you exchanging
Thank you! I'm really glad I did.
Would you like me to post you a Smokey rose?
You're too sweet. I don't want anyone to trouble themselves! 💜 But if you do happen to see it suddenly be clearanced everywhere as if it's being discontinued, PLEASE grab me a tube! Only then are we in dire territory! 😅
Why don’t you just order the lipstick online? 😂
Good idea!
